It's Official...IT'S PALIN

She's staunchley pro-life.

Are you?

Or just voting for McCain because he has a woman on the ticket?

I am a right leaning independent, but I am not religious, am generally pro-choice, and don't really care too much about gay marriage. I don't think they are the most important issues facing this country and I don't vote on these issues. Personally, I think anyone who votes primarily or entirely on these issues, either way, is really a wasted vote.

Palin may be socially conservative, which I can take or leave (mostly leave), but most importantly she is also a financial conservative who despises government corruption and is darn near a libertarian. She is the least political of all the politicians now in this race, and I find that refreshing. I think McCain/Palin will be pragmatic leaders of this country, and not the ideologues (right and left) that control this government. THAT is why I am voting for McCain/Palin.

Good post:thumbsup2 and best thing I read all day...whether I agree with it or not...it was a good readpopcorn:: Thanks for adding some intelligence to the boards today.

I can't even finish reading this thread because it's so ridiculous. Everyone needs to stop telling women what they should want and how they are supposed to think. THAT is the crap that is insulting to women.

Oh - you forgot Carly Roach's little gem (which was repeated and repeated) - that Gov. Palin is governor because she is the "token woman."
:headache:

I don't think I made it that far before I gave up.

We haven't advanced AT ALL if woman's rights are only important as long as they align with the liberal point-of-view. If we're not allowed to reach our own conclusions and need to rely on the democratic party to make our decisions for us, we're still oppressed.

Very very well said. I could not agree more. Thank you for your intelligent and reasoned opinion.

Although I consider myself to be a left leaning independent you have pretty much described me to a "T." Thanks for putting it into words much better than I would have used!

I haven't read all the posts - but the issue with her going back to work 3 days after giving birth to a special needs child.

Would anyone be talking about a man if his wife gave birth to a special needs child and he went to work 3 days later? I doubt that very much.

That doesn't mean she doesn't love or care abuot her family. Why is it OK for men to move on with their career but not a woman, if she does people think she is a bad mom! In my opinion that is so untrue.

...........and Palin has a Down's baby.....she didn't kill it before or after it was born. I'm very prejudiced on this subject. I am blessed to have a Down's brother. She's going to get votes from disabled Americans and their families.

As the parent of a daughter with Down syndrome, this is one of the most disturbing posts I have ever read.

While a woman has the right to abort the pregnancy just like any pregnancy, there isn't some special break in the law that allows parents to kill their "Down's babies" after they are born. You think parents are allowed to kill their children after they are born when they find out they have a disability?

I find it appalling that one of the traits you admire Palin for is that she didn't murder her child after it was born when she found out he had a disability.

I was already going to vote for McCain, but his VP choice has me completely PSYCHED! I'm really thrilled! :thumbsup2

She is pro-life and recently gave birth to a child with Downs Syndrome, rather than flush the life down the drain..

So all pro-choice people flush their children down the drain?

I am pro-choice and oh wait - I have a daughter with Down syndrome. I certainly didn't flush her life down the drain.

I also am very active in the Mile High Down Syndrome Association (yes, your state organization) and there are plenty of parents that learn they are carrying a baby with Down syndrome and make the CHOICE to not abort.

Can you get any more insulting?

This thread is unbelievable!

I have a differnt take on her - I thinks she's fantastic and I admire her - but that doesn't make up for an increible lack of experience - McCain probably lost himself the election. Being the governor of the 48th largest state with a population of under a million counts for nothing. Too bad. I like John and will still probably vote for him, but.........

....and being a Community Organizer, showing up in the Senate to vote "maybe" and being able to read a teleprompter makes Obama more qualified to be President?:confused3

I find it oddly weird that I am attracted to a nominated VP. She's a looker!

Good move by the GOP. Should be an interesting election year.

He was able to take the nomination from the biggest political machine in the democratic party - that's impressive, but I never said a word about Barak - on purpose - because I just don't know.......

This will be interesting, that's for sure!

Not without a bit of corruption to favor him for that taking..

If you didnt want the child, then you should not have went through the motions. Like a good little American, you want to pass the buck. Instead of taking responsibility and dealing with the consequences of your actions, you want to blame someone else.

Tell you what, if you get pregnant and are thinking of aborting, PM, I'll adopt that precious little bundle of joy.

Good God, man, can you read? She didn't say she wanted to give the child up, she said it wasn't fun being pregnant! She's not trying to "pass the buck" nor is she planning an abortion and I'm reasonably sure she ain't gonna give her kid to you! Not everybody loves being pregnant. That doesn't mean she isn't looking forward to being a parent.

Good Lord! I cannot believe some of the comments that people make during political debates. That was way over the top.

Phew!
I agree...these posts have made my head swim. This type of attack against one another's beliefs is one of the reasons this country is having troubles right now...we are so busy fighting and trying to be right and disrespecting each other that we don't work together to solve problems. EXACTLY like Congress!

Here's the facts:
McCain is a war hero, he's filthy rich, and will probobly continue the same course as Bush. He has served our country in many ways for many years.

Obama was in Illinois government BEFORE he was our State Senator, he wasn't just a "community organizer" as some here have said. He does have the ability to stir something in people, but yes, he does not have much experience. Just don't forget that at over 3 million people, Chicago (the community he "organized") has almost triple the people of Alaska.

It is insane to think that either man will lead alone...the real meat is in the Cabinet.

McCain's choice of Palin was a ploy, nothing more...and an insulting one at best. No sensible woman will vote for someone just because there is a woman on the ballot.

It really doesn't matter anyway...the people with real power are Lobyists.
