We passed ROFR on 2/28. We were in the system a good month ago and even booked our first trip. I got the confirmation for that about a week later. But NOTHING else, nothing showing I am a member, no welcome, nothing. From what I have read over and over, others got a welcome kit of some sort just a day or so after they were in the system. Should I call and ask them where my stuff is??

When we purchased via the resale market, we never got a welcoming letter from Disney. We did get member cards with our new number and use year, but that took a few months.

You've booked your first trip, so you know you're in the system. If you need something more to make you comfortable with your status, you might try looking out on the official DVC site where you can review your point status, etc.

As for a welcome kit, I didn't expect that since my resale contract purchase didn't benefit Disney at all. I'd be curious to see if others got any type of welcome kit from Disney when purchasing resale.

On the other hand, I got a nice welcome kit including a letter and a couple of nice momentos when I purchased direct from Disney. Is it possible that you are confusing a resale purchase with a purchase direct from Disney?

No welcome kit with resale here. Member cards - about three months after closing. And the guidebook, about two months after closing. But we closed our resale four or five years ago - now that all the information is online and the guidebooks haven't been updated in years, I wonder if they even send a guidebook?

I must have been reading something wrong then. I thought on the ROFR thread (will go look in a sec) that others were saying they got a welcome package from Disney right after they showed up in the system.

And how can I look up my points on the website, don't I have to have a PIN number or something from them....which of course I don't have.

While you are usually able to make reservations within a week of closing on a resale, it may take weeks (even months) to get documents in the mail.

You should call MS to get the information about getting into the www.dvcmember website.

Good luck!

... and WELCOME HOME! :)

We did not get any welcome package with our resale. We got our member cards and the member guidebook several months later.

Some of the resale brokers have been known to send little "welcome home" packages when buying resale. Maybe that's what they're referring to? :confused3

In any event, I hope you enjoy all those great vacations ahead of you! :)

I would be very surprised if you got anything from DVC on a resale...DVC was not part of the transaction and they did not benefit from it either.

We bought thru DVC and we got a nice lithograph, tote bag and hard case documents box to hold all of my "stuff" along with nice notes and letters welcoming me to DVC.

So...you went through resale and paid less than we did and probably saved yourself hundreds of $$$, but big deal...I got a tote bag !!!!!

:furious: But I want my tote bag!!!

Seriously though, as long as I am not supposed to be getting anything, I am cool! I found the thread where a poster said she got a welcome pack. It was a resale too, but it just must have been from the agency she bought through.

I would think Disney really does benefit from resale purchases, in that they didn't have to spend their money to ROFR it, pay to include any special incentives, pay the closing costs, or finance it if applicable.

Resale purchasers are also paying Disney their share of maintenence fees, picking up right where the seller left off with no gaps that Disney would otherwise have to cover if they had ROFR'd it.

Resales benefit Disney in the same way that Disney benefits the resale market via ROFR.

I dunno. If they can send out a billion different CRO confirmations for every little thing, seems to me it would be a nice gesture after paying a considerable amount to join DVC, to get a Disney "Welcome Home" note since everyone ends up being entered into the same MS system anyway.

Having said that however, that will be the furthest thing from my mind when we walk into BWV and hear "Welcome Home" for the very first time as new members!

It does seem like your guide (since you get assigned one in the system) should send you a note, welcome you home, and introduce himself and explain his role (herself/her role). And maybe you don't get a totebag/lithograph/ thing of the moment, but they could throw in a pin from your home resort or something.

And I actually think resale should get the whole package (perhaps sans totebag) since the POS has information in it that all members should have received.

Some resale members apparently get their original owners package - I've heard of that happening here.

What is a guide and do I have one as well?

Yes, you do, although you might never know it since you purchased resale.

The only reason I know who our guide is, is because we took the SSR tour during our recent trip and a guide is assigned to you right then and there.

DVC assigns everyone a "Guide", which is really just your DVC salesperson and contact name. They will be the person you always call with any DVC add-on purchases, if you buy directly through Disney.

I'm not sure, but I would think MS could tell you who your guide is.

OK, so I called and my guide is Byron. I also see that they have no idea that this is a resale, it looks to them in the system that I have always owned it. My membership card (which we got) say member since 05/01. Interesting stuff!

Ok...I'll make you a deal...in exchange for your upcoming 10 day Christmas trip to Disney, you can have my DVC tote bag !!!! I'll even throw in the VWL litogragh as a bonus !!!

Byron's a good guy. You won't need to talk to him unless you want to add on or something - he is functionally a sales person. But since a lot of members DO eventually add on, it would be a nice gesture on their part to introduce themselves once you join. However, I don't think their system is set up to let them know about new "resale" clients.

If I'm not mistaken, the reason your card says you've been members since 05/01 is because the contract will always retain the original purchase date from Disney. I don't believe it has any other relevence to what your benefits are so doesn't matter at all what that date says.

Just an update, but I have now received two packages from Disney. One had two books and a welcome letter. They were paper back, kind of like you would pick up from a travel agent really. Then the other was a VERY nice, hard covered book, purple, with "dream" on the front. Has great pictures inside of all the resorts, the rooms, etc. Pretty much tells you everything about DVC.

I still don't have a pin number though to log into the member site.
