It's ALL About the Food (We go to WDW to eat and drink!!) ~ October 2009 TR

"You live close enough that we ought to think about getting together at some point. When a bunch of us DISers put together another meet I will let you know and you can join if you wish."

That would be great. I'll look forward to hearing from you.
Karin

Thank you for sharing your trip with us Elin! Loved all the pictures, can't wait to get back sometime myself.

Elin I finally found time to read your report. It sounded like you had a wonderful time. Busy, but wonderful...just as a WDW vacation should be :goodvibes

I have one more update to make on thisreport. I hope my thread doesn't get closed before I have the chance to give our reviews of the food and restaurants we sampled last week overall!!

I am swamped at work right now, but maybe some can get done tomorrow morning. I hope! :teeth:

what a lovely lovely last day! I just adore all your pictures and have such a better appreciation for the journey from the BC to Epcot and the Boardwalk.

SO many yummy yummy treats you had and what a wonderful Flying Fish experience.

I did not know about the new cava in Mexico, that's great to know about.

I did not know

Elin,

I enjoyed living vicariously through your F & W trip...while we'll be there next year for Em's b-day during the festival...(and I definitely plan on testing some of the offerings...;) It will probably be a little bit before we will do a whole F&W week-(which all sounded fabulous btw...:goodvibes)-I think the whole thing would be a great draw for my in-laws...I'm thinking about printing out your TR so they can read for themselves about all the great things offered...:cool1:

I didn't know about the Cava in Mexico-good to know...I prefer wine most of the time but every so often...it's nice to mix it up...

Loved the review of Flying Fish...sounded wonderful...(Have to decide on where to have our "big" b-day dinner next year...probably Cali Grill or Flying Fish...)

Will have to high tail it to your Christmas PTR-can't wait to read about your plans with yourBob and your girls...:goodvibes

(hmm...btw...I know its about 40 miles north of you...but do you know of any particularly good wine stores in either Alexandria or DC...going there this weekend and usually like to take the opportunity to break back some wine when we are faced with more choices...:cool2:)

Patricia -- I PMed you about wine stores in the DC area. Would you like me to send you a couple of the weekly Festival Brochure handouts? If so PM me your address and I will send them right out!

I have started more planning for Christmas, but I haven't gotten a lot written on that PTR yet either. :sad2: Sad, I know. But hopefully soon I will get a little more done!

This is it! I think... ;)

I am listing only what we ate at the Marketplaces as well as our restaurant choices. Hopefully this will help others in their choices of things to try or skip! We skipped a LOT this year! It was just not weather conducive to eating and drinking for us, which made living up to the title of my TR a little difficult! :rotfl:

my simple rating system: :thumbsup2 or :sad2:

Epcot's 2009 International Food & Wine Festival

Marketplaces & Promenade

Bologna, Italy Location: Italy Pavilion
• Polpettini (Italian Meatballs with traditional tomato sauce) $4.50
• Beverage Selection: Prosecco $5.00, Moretti Beer $6.00

I enjoyed the Prosecco, Bob liked everything he had here! :thumbsup2

Cape Town, South Africa Location: Africa Outpost
• Seared Beef Tenderloin with Sweet Potato Purée, Mango Barbecue Sauce $4.75
• Beverage Selection: Fairview Winery Pinotage, $2.75

These two items were just for me! :thumbsup2

Cork, Ireland Location: United Kingdom Pavilion
• Lobster & Scallop Fisherman's Pie $5.50

This was the first thing I had to eat at the F&W booths this year... GREAT choice! :thumbsup2

Kraków, Poland Location: Norway Pavilion
• Kielbasa and Potato Pierogie with Caramelized Onions and Sour Cream $5.00
• Beverage Selection: Bob cheated and had a Carlsburg beer from a kiosk.

We always get this dish. We all make it at home too, and Bob says ours is better. Every year. ;) :thumbsup2

Mexico City, Mexico Location: Mexico Pavilion
• Beverage Selection: Dos Equis Beer $4.50

We actually got the Nachos from the Cantina across the way! :lmao: :thumbsup2

Montreal, Canada Location: Canada Pavilion
• Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup $3.75
• Maple Glazed Salmon with Lentil Salad $4.50
• Spicy Chicken Sausage with Sweet Corn Polenta $3.75
• Maple Sugar Candy $2.25
• Beverage Selection: Moosehead Beer $6.00,

No matter what they charge, how much (or little) they give, or the fact that I make she cheese soup at home pretty regulalry... we stop here more than once every trip because we like it all. This year the Salmon was good, but the lentil salad was a little different. Not bad... but I liked the greens in years past better. The Chicken Sausage was wonderful, albeit a bit spicy for my taste. Bob liked the soup and the beer. That is it. He hated the sausage! :thumbsup2 and :sad2:

Munich, Germany Location: Germany Pavilion
• Späetzle Gratin with Ham and Cheese $5.50
• Nuernberger Sausage on a Pretzel Roll $4.25
• Beverage Selection: Beck's Oktoberfest $6.00

We actually got the beer from the permanent kiosk that is there since we were on a beer kick that day. We both loved both these offerings. :thumbsup2

New Orleans, Louisiana Location: American Adventure
• Praline Bread Pudding, Bourbon Caramel Sauce $3.00
• Beverage Selection: Abita Amber Beer $6.00

What a great way to start the morning! ;) :thumbsup2

Paris, France Location: France Pavilion
• Escargots Persillade en Brioche $4.50
• Cabernet Short Ribs with Mashed Potatoes $4.50
• Beverage Selection : Parisien Cosmo Slush $8.50

These were all just wonderful. Vive la France! :thumbsup2

Santiago, Chile Location: Showcase Plaza
• Beverage Selection: Concha y Toro Wines: Cabernet Sauvignon $4.25,

I liked this cab just fine. I would buy it at home. :thumbsup2

Vienna, Austria Location: Germany Pavilion
• Goulash mit Servietten Knoedel (Paprika Beef Stew, Bacon Dumpling) $3.75

We liked this. It is not the goulash that I make at home and I have never, ever seen a dumpling that looked like that one! But... it was good. :thumbsup2

The Brewer's Collection Location: Between the Morocco and France Pavilions
• Warm Pretzel Bread Stick with Cheese Dip $2.50
• Landjäeger (German sausage) $2.75
• Beverage Selection: Hacker-Schorr Oktoberfest and I don't remember what Bob drank!! :lmao: $6.00

We liked all of these things! :thumbsup2

Hops & Barley Location: Between the Morocco and France Pavilions
• Boston-style Crab Cake with Cabbage Slaw and Remoulade $4.50
• Beverage Selection: Samuel Adams Boston Lager (draft), Samuel Adams Octoberfest (draft), 14th Anniversary Festival Beer (draft)

I thought the crab cake was really good. SA lager is one of Bob's favorite everyday beers. I like their Oktoberfest. Neither one of us liked the Festival Beer which we now understand was a Blackberry Witbier. :thumbsup2 and :sad2:

The Mouse Catch Location: Showcase Plaza
• Dorothea Dutch Cheese
• Piave — Italian Cheese
• Mahon — Spanish Cheese
• Beverage Selection: Martini & Rossi Prosecco $3.75

All three cheeses were wonderful. I will buy them here at home. The Prosecco is always good!! :thumbsup2

Believe it or not that is all we ate and drank at the Marketplaces. It sure seemed like a lot more as we were doing it!
