we LOVED Saratoga Springs!
We own at SSR and just had our first visit Dec. 31- Jan. 3rd. We were quite nervous as I had read so many conflicting reveiws of the resort. We bought there b/c of the great incentives but we had toured the resort and liked the looks of it.
Here is a brief report of what we loved:
We checked in on NYE at 11:15am and had planned that our room would not be ready until after 4pm. I crossed my fingers that we would get into our room by 6pm. Well some pixie dust must have fallen on us b/c our room was actually ready when we checked in at 11:15am! I never imagined that would happen. We had a glitch with our Dining plan but the CM, Jose, got it fixed immediately and was extremely helpful and kind.
We were in Carousel, villa #7714 on the 3rd floor. I had not requested a location b/c I did not know what would really be best for our family. We were thrilled with Carousel. We overlooked the parking lot but we could see all of the PI NYE freworks from our balcony. How great is that!!
Our room was spotless and I am extremely picky. It was cleaned by Connie and she did a fantastic job. There were no maintenance issues and we were very comfortable. The decor was lovely and the beds were cozy.
Food at Artist Palette was very good. We ate 2 meals there. Awesome CMs, clean restaurant, pleasant atmosphere. We did not have time to try Turf Club but we did play pool in the Lounge one afternoon.
It was such a great stay and we will be happy to use the resort many times in the future. I can, however, see where the resort might be a challenge for someone that does not have a car with them. We were quite far from the food area and pool. We drive to the parks so waiting for the buses is not an issue for us. If you were carless, it would be quite crucial to be in a centrally located building.
We joined DVC in May 2007 and have stayed at AKV, HHI, BC and SSR. We will be staying at VWL in Feb. and then will do a split stay at BWV and OKW in March. We will be back at AKV in a grand villa in May. We feel fortunate to have tried all the resorts, other than VB, in less than our first year of ownership. We plan to try VB in Oct. in combination with another DCL cruise.
So far, our ressies have had a retail value of over $16,000 (including our cruise and our upcoming stay in an AKV grand Villa), very close to what we paid for our first contract. DH is a Realtor so we will hold off on any more add-ons until the real estate market levels out but we are so thrilled with DVC. We plan to add on at least another 200 points (we currently have 340) and we look forward to many great years of DVC vacations!!
