"it's a small world" Refurb

That's a great week to go- we went at the same time last year. the weather was perfect and the crowds were great too.

I think you made a good decision and will have a great time. :thumbsup2

So I am wondering if we will be the first family ever to reschedule a trip because IASW will be closed:lmao:

Hoping to find out in the next few days if DH can get the week before Thanksgiving off from work so we can go then instead. The more I think about it, it would be just cruel to take my DS there and have that be closed. I do have the 20/30/40 pin that we can use, plus it's looking promising that FD will be extended as it was last year.

Room rates are higher that week but it would be nice to see the Christmas decorations and go to MVMCP, we havent done that for about 5 years.

Now a whole new waiting game for us after spening weeks waiting to hear about FD! Oh well....

We actually talked about it. DS 3 and DD 1 both love it so much. But we have already purchased airfare and MNSSHP tickets. DH was wanting to pay to change airfare and try to sell the tickets, but I have also asked to have something pretty big rescheduled at work, and I just couldn't change my dates now. Besides, I really wanted to go during regular free dining, since I'm hoping against hope that we will be able to book bounceback this year;) But it still hurts my heart to know that we are going to have to walk past it over and over and not be able to ride.

I'm kind of surprised how many people are disappointed in this - it's not a great attraction - we rode it a few times last year and will ride it again this year, but it would be hard to get disappointed if it were being refurbed when we were going. Sure it's an old traditional attraction, but it's really long and really dated - it needs a big time refurb. In terms of a quality attraction, it's not much better than the Duck ride in Mexico.

I'm kind of surprised how many people are disappointed in this - it's not a great attraction...it's an old traditional attraction.

I think you answered your own confusion there. Sure it's old and dated, but that's the charm for a lot of people (like DH and I, who remember seeing it as kids back in the early years that the park was first open).

That said, my three year old thinks it's fascinating, as do many from the preschool crowd. I don't know if it's the colors, the movement, or that infernal song but he really likes the ride and I'd be disappointed if he couldn't see it.

Different strokes for different folks- IASW, along with POTC and HM are my very favorite attractions at the MK, BECAUSE they are classics. IMO, not every attraction needs to be constantly updated or made into a technologically advanced thrill ride. That is what I love so much about WDW- there is something for everyone to love.

I think you are probably just trying to get a rise out of everybody, but still...I have very fond memories of riding this when I was little. We took DS to WDW first when he was 9 months old and he just lit up on IASW. Same thing with DD, who was 8 months old the first time she rode it. Both "talked" to the babies the entire time and we have ridden it many, many times each trip with our kids. It is a nice long ride in the air conditioning for everyone and so much fun to see their reactions each time. When DS was a baby and would get fussy in his carseat, I could play the song on cd and he would immediately quiet down. As soon as it was over he would start in again, so I would just replay it over and over:goodvibes

Last year when DS was 2 1/2, he would say "penguins!!!" and then immediately, "more penguins!!!" every single time we passed them. When I was little I thought Cleopatra was winking just at me, and now DS thinks that, too. This ride is very special to a lot of people and I for one hope they NEVER change it significantly. But I do like it when the hula girls work;)

We'll be there during the closure as well. DH is not too upset...and probably not my eldest son, but the other 4 are a little bit bummed. And so am I. We didn't go on it the last time we were there so it'll be awhile before we see it again!

Nope, I just think it's pretty lame - and I dont think everything has to be a fast moving thrill ride - again, I rode it multiple times last year for the tradition of it, still it's reallllly looooooong, the atmosphere of it is not great because it's like being in a huge warehouse with the high ceilings and the "children" being pretty far away from the boats.

We were there July 4th week last year and the times we rode it we basically walked onto the ride while the line at Peter Pan accross the way was enormous. I felt like this was an example of how one ride stands the test of time in terms of it's design and another is kind of dated.

My pp was more of a comment that most of the posts here seem to not be reflective of the popularity of the ride at the park.
