It'll Be All Right -A May 2012 TR Closing Thought and PTR Link 8/12*

I love that the little kid turned your whole night around!! Sounds so cute!!

Ugh parade/wishes viewing can seriously bring out the worst in people!

Those are such beautiful pictures of wishes!!
I'm so happy that the rain let up though!!

Ahhh the good old ' leisurely shop instead of get mobbed by crowds' trick. LOVE IT!!

That little kid was so adorable. I wish I had his peace of mind!

I don't know how I ever handled the after-fireworks mob before. Shopping is so less stressful.:rotfl:

Your view for the shows looks awesome!! But wow those crowds!!!

That's a shame that that family had such a negative experience! It's unfortunate when people at Disney really only think of themselves, that they're the ONLY ones that have spent the money and time to be there, and can act however they choose.

I agree. I always look at a long Disney day as, everybody's tired, everybody's hot, everybody's had to wait in long lines. No need to lash out on someone else, who's most likely more stressed than you. :confused3

I LOVE MSEP! I've seen both and Spectro is really awesome, but I like MSEP better. Can't quite put my finger on why. I like the music outside of watching the parade too though.
Ba-dum da dum dum da da dum dum... hehe
That's quite a mob! But a great location for viewing the fireworks, nice pics!
Too bad about the family on the boat having such a bad experience. We have rare bad experiences, I must say. I generally find that everyone at Disney is a little friendlier (though of course some are pushy and entitled.) What a sin. I hope they had a redeeming time the next day.

That's good to know. I do want to see Spectro just to have something to compare MSEP to, but I think if they ever permanetly took it away, I'd probably be really sad.

I love this picture! The fireworks look so cool! What a perfect vantage point. I feel sorry for the Australian folks. What a shame that they had such a crappy experience. It really bothers me that they picked up on how rude people can people.

Another great update.

Thanks. I loved that viewing spot for Wishes, and I hope I can get Alex there one day. As far as MMY, I was able to see images on the castle that I normally wouldn't if I was farther back.

Amazing photos of the castle! :)

Thank you!:goodvibes

I love the little toddler you and you're mom ran into... like a little pillar of wisdom... :goodvibes

I think that Alex obviously missed you and just wanted to share your experiences via technology... sounds kinda sweet...

Sigh... I'm terribly sorry that you had to experience that kind of rudeness... I'm sorry to say I think that we all have to start being more conscious of our behavior and our children ( & now you're part of that having a little one on the way ...;) I think that our society in general is just permitting some really uncivil behavior... and we have to start calling people out on it... when possible and also expecting more from ourselves and those we have responsibility for...

It's not ok to be rude... it simply isn't ... and we have to make sure that we demand civility and do our own small part to make it so...

(Gosh and at Disney... that's always been a place where you think you can escape the "real" world... Mean, rude people just should be allowed in...;)

It was really sad to hear how upset those guests were over other people's behavior, and I agree with you. Even a little courtesy goes a long way. Everyone's in an unknown place, sometimes dealing with an unknown language, and it raises the stress level of adults and kids. If people just took the time to show a little kindness, all the parade drama would cease.

I've been slacking but am all caught up now.

I can't believe you are due in a couple of months! That seems to have flown by (for me, anyway ... I'm not sure it has for you :goodvibes).

I loved reading where the title of your TR came from. It is amazing how honest and warm little kids are; they really do say the darndest things. :lovestruc

I can relate to the slacking bit. I've barely had time to get on the DISboards these past few weeks. I'm pretty sure this TR will hit the 1 year anniversary before I finish it. :rotfl2:

I am more than ready for DS to get here! These last 8 weeks are going to drag by.

Wednesday, May 9th, 2012 Morning:

Today was scheduled to be an exciting day for my mother and me.

No, we weren't planning on hitting up multiple parks.

No, we weren't leaving the Disney bubble for another theme park.

No, we didn't have any behind the scenes tours or specialty packages booked.

That day, I had planned for us to do basically nothing but eat, sleep, and relax.

This was a big deal for me, because I'd never stayed in Disney long enough to grant myself a rest day. Typically, I had 4-5 days that I had to utilize to my full advantage. There was no time for laziness when I only had one day to ride TSM as many times as possible!

However, this was our 5th full day at Disney, and my mom and I really needed a chance to recuperate. We only had one more full day left, but we wanted to make sure we had as much energy as possible to make the most of it. Plus, the two of us didn't want to be exhausted on the 6 hour drive home.

Starting off the down day right, my mom and I began the morning a teensy bit behind schedule. We took our time waking up, drinking our coffee, finding some clean clothes among our luggage.

When I felt that we absolutely positively had to leave our room, I drove us to the TTC in order to hop on the resort monorail.

I wish I could be back at that exact spot right now. Preparing to hop aboard the highway in the sky, Destination:The Polynesian. Or the Magic Kingdom. Whatever floats my boat.

As much as I adore those two places, that was not where I was taking my mother on that morning.

Here's a bit of info before I continue.

My mother's favorite resort is the Grand Floridian. If she had her way, that's where she'd stay every trip.

The ironic thing about such a fascination is that my mom had never stepped foot inside the resort before. She was supposed to go there for tea once during the holidays for work, but the plan fell through. She had spent days looking at photos of the GF and was completely overtaken with the elegance and classic beauty of it.

In her words, "That's where a princess is supposed to stay while on vacation.":rotfl:

So, back in December, when I began making our ADR reservations, I knew I had to get my mom inside this resort at least once. I scoured around for a bit, read a ton of Dining Reviews for all the restaurants, and finally settled on a 1900 Park Fare breakfast.

I figured going here on our rest day would allow us time to look around the resort and let my mom take in all the beautiful details.

So, it goes without saying that my mom was really excited throughout the monorail ride over to the resort.
We walked into the resort, and I wish I had captured my mother's expression when she finally got to see the lobby for herself.

Dsc09826.jpg
She said it was even prettier than the pictures made it out to be.

The way she kept staring around her, checking out the chandelier, the ceiling, even the stair banisters, was proof enough to me that Disney is much more than just four theme parks. How anyone cannot enjoy themselves eating at some of the unique restaurants or touring the resorts is beyond me.

The two of us checked into 1900 Park Fare right at our ADR time of 9:40 and were told that they were running way behind. It would be about 20 minutes.

I was pretty hungry, I won't lie, but this was our down day and I wasn't going to rush anything.

My mom and I found an empty couch in the lobby and settled down for a long wait. I took a million random photographs, because let's be honest- there's just no such thing as too many photos at Disney.

I think my favorite feature of the resort is the ceiling. I just love how bright and detailed it is:

After a full twenty minutes came and went, the buzzer we had been given began going off and we were finally able to head towards the food.

We were seated at a table right next to the buffet, which was A.OKAY by me.

Dsc09835.jpg

Dsc09838.jpg

I actually really like the look and feel of the restaurant. It had an aura of calmness to it, and whereas some Disney restaurants make me feel claustrophobic with all the tables sitting right on top of each other, Park Fare was the opposite. It felt roomy and I could easily relax. Even with people passing our table constantly going to and from the buffet, I never felt like I had to shirk a stray elbow or that someone was going to snatch a grape off my plate.

The restaurant itself really impressed me, and I hadn't even ordered my drink yet.

My mom and I were able to get a pot of coffee delivered to our table, and as soon as it arrived, we received our first guest.
Dsc09842.jpg

Pooh Bear!

Dsc09843.jpg

When Pooh finished posing for photos with us, our server told us that we'd be safe to go grab some food before anyone else arrived at our table.

Now, I'm not a fan of buffets.
So why'd I schedule a breakfast buffet?

Sounds crazy, I know.

But usually, when it comes to breakfast buffets, I feel pretty safe. There's always cereal at one of the stations or fresh fruit I can munch on. I'm more of a "No Lunch or Dinner Buffet Person."
But so is Alex, so it tends to always work out well.

I went into this meal with an open mind, though. We were in Disney after all, not some sketchy diner off the interstate claiming all you can eat pancakes and O.J.

I was putting my trust in Disney's so far reliable food quality.

My biggest fear of the morning was that because the breakfast slot was almost finished (it was after 10 at this point) there wouldn't be any fresh food and everything would be cold and slimy.

However, once I got my plate:

f6 by Alicia Wolchick, on Flickr

And took a bite, I was pleasantly surprised.

This was my mother's plate:

f7 by Alicia Wolchick, on Flickr

And she agreed with me that the food tasted a lot better than she expected. Everything was fresh and warm and you didn't hear any complaints from either of us.

I stand corrected. We did find one issue during our meal:

The coffee.

:coffee:

Wowza!

That stuff could've walked back to our resort with us, it was so strong.

My mother put in 5 sugar packets and drowned it in creamer and still it was too much for her.

I don't know who had prepared that pot, but man oh man, they wanted to put hair on our chest! Maybe they assumed that if someone was drinking coffee, they were obviously having to deal with characters and were headed out to battle the park crowds and needed some extra strength to endure all that.

But dang!

Throughout our meal, the various characters came and said hello.

Dsc09847.jpg

Mary Poppins happened to see our coffee and asked if we'd added a spoonful of sugar to it.

Oh, you have no idea, Mary.

No idea.

Dsc09851.jpg

Tigger rounded on us unexpectedly, so I had to kind of throw my camera over to my mother, and I'd forgotten to zoom the lens out beforehand. Hence, the very up close photo of us two.

Then he tried to do a little dance with my mother:

Dsc09852.jpg

Alice stopped by, as well, but I wasn't a fan of our pictures, so you'll just have to imagine the meeting.

My mom went back and got some more fruit for the two of us to munch on while we waited for the last character to arrive.

Unfortunately, he was taking a really long time, so we managed to finish the food, get the check, and pay it before he popped in.

Who, you ask?

Why, the Mad Hatter, of course.
Someone (I think it was Alex's coworker) told us the Mad Hatter was the best character to meet at Park Fare and to try and not miss him if possible.

So, my mom and I were patient and waited him out.

And we were both very happy we did.
He was an absolute riot, taking the time to ask us questions, and make us laugh.

At one point, he asked my mother what our plans were for the rest of the day, and my mom replied with, "Oh, we're having a down day today. Just gonna go swimming and relax."

And Mad Hatter's answer was, "Down day?! As in...down the rabbit hole?!"

:rotfl2:

He played his character so well and put the proverbial cherry on top of our meal experience.

Dsc09855.jpg

Dsc09857.jpg

If anyone is an Alice in Wonderland fan, this is a character breakfast you have to attend. I'm not such a huge fan of meeting characters that aren't in plush costumes, but Mad Hatter made it completely worth it.

My mom and I left the restaurant laughing like kids and making promises to ourselves to eat there again.

I did learn, however, that for as little as I ate, I really shouldn't have wasted a Dining Plan Credit on the breakfast. If I ever end up booking the restaurant again, I will definitely pay out of pocket for it and save my credit for a larger meal, such as dinner in an Epcot restaurant.

We had finished with breakfast at 10:45, and when my mom asked what I wanted to do next, I suggested we just meander around for a bit.
After all, it was our down day and what could be more easygoing than strolling around a resort for a bit, work off some of those Danishes and Mickey Head waffles?

I don't think I even need to type my mother's answer.

:rotfl:

Ahhhh, what a great way to start the morning! I love reading about 1900 PF! We've had it for dinner, and I have to say that the food there was delish, and the characters were wonderful. Anastasia and Drizella were absolute hoots!!! I always feel odd when meeting the Mad Hatter--I've seen Alice in Wonderland, but I'm not a huge fan, so I'm always afraid he's going to make a reference to something that I won't get! I'm glad you two had such a great experience!

As for the GF, I'm so glad you were able to get your Mom over there. I can tell from the one picture how much she was in love with the place. It is beautiful! I can't wait to hear about your stroll around the grounds! I'm sure she was in pure heaven!

What a fun breakfast. I have always wanted to eat there. I didn't know they used Mickey shaped plates. That's pretty cool!

Glad you mom loved the GF! It really is even prettier in pictures.

I think that is really awesome that you decided to have a "down" day...:thumbsup2

(I've always wanted to do that but unfortunately I always feel like I have to run somewhere... I'd love a resort day where I just went to different resorts... especially the ones I've never been to... and just relaxed and checked them out...)

I'm so glad your Mom loved the GF... she does look pretty blissed out in the photos...

You Look like you had some really good character interaction in 1900 Park Fare... I liked that a lot when I went there several years ago and yes the Mad Hatter is great and definitely NUTS...:lmao:

I'm with you on the OP for breakfast... but I feel like I usually don't get my $$$ out of most Disney Buffet Breakfast just because I'm not a big breakfast eater... oatmeal or some yogurt and fruit... but some of the breakfasts are worth it for the experience ... and it sounds like it was worth it...:goodvibes

Sounds like a great breakfast! I ate there for breakfast once and was not impressed... I had what you feared, cold food! lol but maybe some day I'll have to try again.

I was afraid of the same thing! I don't really like Alice in Wonderland and only know the basics, but it seems like the characters stick to the high points. I mean, I think people who have never seen the film before know the rabbit hole reference.

Sounds like a great breakfast. That bacon actually looks... edible. :confused3 :rotfl:

Haha, I'm not really a bacon fan to begin with, so I wasn't very impressed. However, it was better than CP's, which was a plus.

The meal was actually really good, and as far as the food goes, I thought it was better than Crystal Palace's, which surprised me. I'd definitely eat there again some day.

The down day turned out to be great. I think if I ever go for a week again, I'm planning another relaxed day.

The character interaction and the experience made it worth the cost of a Disney breakfast. I'm like you and usually only eat some yogurt or fruit, but when you're at Disney you pay for the overall experience sometimes.

Cold food at a buffet is a big fear of mine, and unfortunately, that's what happened when I was at Crystal Palace. My best guess is somedays all restaurants have off days, and perhaps that was happened with 1900 Park Fare when you ate there. :confused3

Finally all caught up!!!!

Don't worry about taking pictures of the Poly every time you see it. I do the same thing with the Wedding Pavilion. At least you've been inside the Poly... I've never set foot in the Wedding Pavilion. The closest I've gotten is driving around the parking lot. I'm pathetic. BUT! Next year! I WILL walk down that aisle!!!

NOW! Get on another update before that beautiful baby boy makes his arrival and you have to abandon us.

Whoa whoa whoa.....I'm sorry, Courtney, I can't process anything in this comment, because I'm too busy staring at your ticker!

!!!!!:hyper:

Does it mean what I think it does???:scratchin Don't worry, I won't mention it outside of the DISboards, but now I gotta know! :rotfl:

We haven't made any type of announcement about it yet. Hell I didn't even believe it until I had my first appointment and they did the ultrasound.

Whaaa?!?!

Oh my gosh! Well, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! :woohoo::cheer2:

I'm so excited for you two. When's your due date? How'd you tell your DH, since I'm guessing he was already deployed when you found out? How've you been feeling? Any idea of when you wanna start telling people? I swore I wasn't going to announce on facebook until I'd finished my 1st trimester, but that definitely didn't work out. :rotfl2:

Now you get to stalk all the amazing Disney baby items on the market. And trust me, there's a ton. My kid's got a closet full of Disney clothes, more than he'll ever wear. :rotfl:

Our kids'll be Disney buddies! :lmao:

Thanks! I'm due October 1st... Talk about a Disney baby!!! I sent Tim a care package to tell him. It was TORTURE waiting for him to get it! Like spending two weeks on Disney property and being told you can get as close to the turnstiles as you want but you can't actually enter the park torture.

I've been feeling awful! I actually made two trips to the ER because of my morning sickness and am now medicated for it. Haven't quite decided when we're going to tell friends and such since we're still working on telling our families. It's kind of a big bomb to drop. Like "Yeah we're getting remarried next March, but we're having a baby in October... Three days before our lease is up." Not too sure how to fit that into conversation. Lol.

I've been stalking all the disney baby stuff since I found out and I'm dying to know what we're having so that I can actually buy stuff. Everyone that knows says I'm having a girl because of how sick I've been, but something tells me it's a boy. So I guess we'll see.

YAY DISNEY BUDDIES!!!!!

Wow, I bet that was the care package shock of his life! :rotfl2: But yeah, I can imagine how hard it must've been to just not accidentally slip and say something. I've got too big a mouth to do that. :rotfl:

Ugh, I'm sorry you've been so sick! That sounds terrible. Thank God they've made medication to help ease the nausea a little nowadays. Hopefully, once you get out of that first trimester things'll pick up. I know months 4-7 were the best for me. You get a ton of your energy back and don't feel huge yet. Heck, I was able to do 3 Disney parks in about 14 hours when I was 6 months. :lmao:

I was going to ask how this affected your wedding. I'm sure you'll still be able to have the Disney wedding you want, you'll just have an adorable little addition to the wedding party.:goodvibes

The Disney stuff can be addicting. As far as gender goes, I was 99.9999% sure I was having a girl, and we all know that was wrong. :rotfl: I will say, though....I've never had any morning sickness whatsoever, and everyone I know who's had girls has been sick a lot. Soooo.....:scratchin But either way as long as they're healthy, gender doesn't matter. There's plenty of cute Disney clothes and nursery items to go around!

But I have to ask, have you thought at all about when you'll take baby's first trip??? I know Alex and I began planning the minute we knew. :lmao:

I'm just happy I found out before I mailed out any other care package. So the surprise we're pregnant box was the very first box he got.

This medication has been my life saver!!!! I'm not crazy about having to be medicated while pregnant, but I'd rather be medicated than not eating. When I was in the ER the second time getting fluids they kept coming to check on me and asked if I needed or wanted anything, and at that point it had been three days since I'd been able to eat and I was just like, I just wanna eat!!!! Lol.

I'm hoping my energy starts to pick up soon. I'm supposed to be going on a cruise mid April and would really like to not be exhausted 24/7. We were going to go to Disney once Tim gets home, but I'll be like 33 weeks and I know I'll be too uncomfortable.

Our Disney Wedding is 5 months and 2 weeks after my due date. So I've got my work cut out for me fitting into that dress. But it's a corset so I've got a little bit of wiggle room.

I have put sooooo much thought into baby's first trip!!! Baby's first trip (so long as baby is healthy and doesn't have to spend any time in NICU and I go on time and not a week late) is actually going the end of October/Beginning of November. I know I know I'm crazy!!! But we have to go down for wedding planning stuff and I can't just leave baby home. We'll probably only do MNSSHP and Downtown Disney, since those crowds will be a tad bit smaller than going to the parks during the day. But we'll see how I feel about it once Little One makes their arrival. Lol. I always told Tim I wanted to go as soon as possible. It will definitely be by the end of the year though.

I'm working on changing doctors right now, but I think I'm going to go to one of those 3d/4d ultrasound places and pay to find out the sex early. But like you said, as long as little one is healthy with 10 fingers and 10 toes I'll be happy.

I hope your energy picks up soon for your sake, as well. Otherwise, I'm sure that'll be a lonnnggg cruise. :rotfl:
Alex and I wanted to take one last trip down to Disney to get our money's worth out of our annual passes, but two different doctors told me no traveling after 34 weeks. So, unfortunately, I was stuck at home. :lmao:

I've actually known a few people and have read several TRs where parents have taken their babies when they were only a few weeks old to Disney. Most say it's actually easier taking them then rather than when they are older because all they do is sleep and eat. I talked with a mom in DHS once who had a 5 week old with her. She said she just let her DH and other kids ride the rides they wanted and she spent most of the time watching shows and parades. She seemed pretty relaxed for somebody with a newborn.
:rotfl:

Alex and I probably would take our kid to Disney sooner than we're planning, but he's being born right before the summer months. And I hate dealing with summer crowds and the heat. So, it was just a personal choice for us.

I'm still not even sure if I'll be able to make the cruise. Talk about a second bomb to drop on half the family. "I know it's all paid for and everything, but I can't go. My doctor said so. Because I'm pregnant. And high risk. And get sick just sitting on my couch." Yeah. I'm about to start a fight with the hospital I'm being seen at because after one appointment I'm extremely unhappy with my care. And we're still trying to figure out if I am high risk or not. I've been stuck on the couch most days, which definitely shows when you look at my house, but what can ya do?

I really wanna take little one the end of October. It should be cooler and the crowds shouldn't be too terrible just yet, but when I said that to my mom yesterday she said no. But she did say I could leave little one with her while Tim and I go to Disney. Might just have to take her up on that so that I can go ride Tower of Terror. :lmao: If we don't take little one then it'll probably be next october before we go (I too am no a fan of the crowds and heat), but I'm just not ok with that. This kid needs the disney magic in their life ASAP! But we are looking into a Disney Cruise next summer (I'm dying to play in the nemo area on the dream and fantasy)

I understand about wanting to ride the coasters. The two trips I took while I was pregnant were brutal. I kept walking by some of my favorites with low wait times, and all I could say was, "I wanna goooo!" :rotfl: But I did ride a lot of the less popular attractions and got to take in more details, so it wasn't all bad.

Disney cruises are awesome. And the one I was on (I did the Magic so I can't say anything about the new ships) had a lot of infants on it that looked completely happy. So I think you guys would have a good time on one. :thumbsup2

Hi everyone! Remember me? If not, that's all right, I understand. It has now been over a month since I last updated this trip report, and for that I apologize. I never would have imagined I'd be too busy to take a few minutes and visit the DISboards, but unfortunately that's been the case.

I wish I came bearing another update, but sadly that's not the case. I'm afraid it'll probably be another few weeks before I can get back to updating. I'm stuck going to the hospital twice a week for monitoring and when I'm home I'm usually sleeping.:rotfl: I just wanted to stop by and say hello and tell everyone that I'm slowly but surely catching up on your reports!

I've been making my way through the Trip Report board, reading up on all the updates I missed. I think I've gotten back to most of you guys, but if I haven't, not to fret, I'll get there! Just let me catch a few more naps and I'll be all caught up! :goodvibes

Because it's impossible for me to post an update and not include something Disney-related in it, I figured I'd post a few pictures of all the Disney things our DS is already owner of and he's not even here yet.

He has drawers full of Disney outfits!
I bought my favorites in bigger sizes, hoping he'll fit into them when we go on our first Disney trip.

Alex and I's good friends in the Orlando area (one who used to be a CM) sent us a care package full of awesome Disney outfits.

I'm pretty much in love with the future Cast Member Figment onsie. I think all the little DISboard babies need one of those to wear and show off their parent's obsession. ::yes::

Then, of course, there's our Lion King items.

A coworker of Alex's has even offered us a Lion King print that he has stored to put on the walls, so it goes without saying that my kid is gonna burst into this world singing Hakuna Matata. Maybe he'll be a Tumbler Monkey one day...

Alex and I even bought a Disney welcome home set for him.
The hat is personalized and is too flipping cute. It came with a blanket that I can't wait to use. So much Disney everywhere!

And, if you all are wondering how I'm faring, I'm waddling through these last couple weeks.

Annndddd, in closing, my last little tidbit of news is that Alex and I have begun closing down dates for our son's first Disney trip! For the longest time the dates were up in the air, and we thought it best to not make any permanent plans. We needed to see where we stood budget-wise; plus there were holidays to work around, and we had to consider if we wanted to do another Disney race in 2014.

Lots of ifs to think about.

However, as of this morning, our goal is to visit the world the first week of December.

Another holiday trip!!!:dance3:

That's really all I can say on the subject, because nothing is set in stone yet. No rooms booked, no firm dates chosen, etc etc.

We're really excited to be able to take DS during the holidays, though, when it'll hopefully be cooler and all the lights will be on. The biggest downside to waiting so long, though, will be that it means Alex and I will have gone an entire year without going to Disney.

One whole year! For us, that's a really long time. Especially when you live so close.

Alex still has his doubts that we can hold out that long.
And when he starts reminding me that it's already been a year and a half since I last rode Thunder, I begin to agree with him.

But only time will tell if our resolve holds out.

Once again, I'm sorry that this trip report has dragged out to almost a year. It will get finished...eventually! I promise!

Yay, thanks for the update, Alicia!!!
I have to say, you are soooo cute pregnant!!! I'm glad to know that everything's okay, but sorry to hear that you're having to go for the monitoring.

Oh, all those Disney outfits are so awesome...but I wouldn't expect anything different!:thumbsup2

And speaking of future plans, have you decided whether or not you're gonna do any Disney races next year? Sadly, the W&D is out for us this year.:(
