Itinerary rumor.

Actually..the third ship was contracted at the same time the magic and wonder were...it just isn't being built yet. It is also very different from the magic and wonder.
webray,

You're saying that Disney signed a contract with a shipyard for a third ship a decade ago, but somehow the shipyard had not yet gotten around to building it yet?

And somehow, although Disney is a publicly traded corporation, governed by SEC rules, Disney has not gotten around to disclosing the huge financial obligation that such a contact carries?

There is no contract for a third ship. There were plans for a fleet expansion. These plans go back to around 2001, and are just gathering dust.

Michael Eisner is out and Bob Iger is in at the top of Disney. The question now is whether Iger (and his top executives) will see value paying big bucks for a fleet expansion. Eisner's priorities were obviously elsewhere.

Actually, yes they have... just not publicly . And my source isn't some foolish CM spreading rumors. But I am not going to give the person's name here and cost someone their job!!
BeanoC,

The very definition of a rumor is that "secret" information (which may be true, untrue, or partially true) is being spread around by word-of-mouth — or these days, by word-of-Internet.

You're telling us that you heard something that's not yet supposed to be publicly known from someone undisclosed inside the company (whose job could be in jeopardy if you disclosed the name); you are repeating it on the Internet. That meets the classic definition of a rumor. From your perspective, it may be confirmed. But for those who are reading this board, this meets the definition of a rumor.

If we believe you, then this is a rumor that will turn out be be true. You've been around the DIS Boards for a long time, and I have no reason to think you're attempting to mislead us. Also, when I piece things together from various things that I've read and heard (not just on the Internet), I expect the 2007 Mediterranean cruises to become a reality. I do not yet have good feeling for whether the Mediterranean cruises will be 7-night cruises or longer cruises.

As you wrote, DCL has not announced anything publicly.

As someone who lives 'across the pond' and regularly pays lots of money to travel to Florida/CA to holiday (5 DCL Cruises, parks and other holidays) I for one would be very pleased to see the Magic in the Med. However, unfortunatly for my DH I have my heart set on one of the repo cruises so we will still have to buy those flights!! Still money well spent in my opinion!!!!

Looking forward to 2007!

DH mentioned that he would love to do a DCL sailing in the Med. We had planned on Rome next year anyway.... We would just have to figure out the logistics since we want to see more *religiously important places * (we are Catholic).
:teeth: He has alot easier time of spending money on fun then I do! LOL!

We've got similar priorities with a need to visit Vatican city (heavily) - plus we'd like to attend a service with the Pope. I understand there is an American Church office that can enable this. ANd complicating this is we have relatively elderly folks in our entourage - as such our "group" has aready set ground rules that call for a cruise that must originate or end adjacent to Rome - as opposed to call on Rome for a few hours.

At any rate - I just wanted to chime in that you're not alone -and drop how our priorities preclude DCL (most likely) since Barcelona is being knocked around already as one end of embarkation - AND our group is sort of slow moving to committ fully (or sufficiently). :chat:

Does anyone know how many nights the rumoured European cruise would be.......or what the ports of call are?!!!! Hoping your inside source has more info!!!

We have no desire to hang around Barcelona and it would be WONDEFUL if dh could find a cruise that had Rome as the starting or ending point!

If we had the chance to attend a Mass w/ the Pope I would probably spend the entire time in tears of joy! :goodvibes

It would probably be just dh, myself and our youngest 3 children on a Med trip.

Ok, am I dreaming or did someone provide a link to an article (translated I think) in some European newspaper or magazine that confirmed a DCL Med cruise in 07? I thought the article said the ports of call would include Barcelona, Marseilles, Rome, and somewhere in Greece. Didn't I read this through a link on a previous thread about this subject?

p.s. I too am on the waiting list for an SPR if its true!

Hey if it actually happens, we will be on it. Looking forward to it but dont want to get to excited. Might have to shoot an email or call over to my friend Tom.

What is a repo cruise? I would love a Hawaii cruise!!

Agree that Rome would be a very good starting spot and just wonder if Disney will offer two itineries as they do at the moment. Would be great as would love to fly to perhaps Rome and then towards Sicily and into the Adriatic i.e. Dubrovnic and Venice to name a couple of good places. Greek Islands would also I think be an excellent itinery.
Here I am dreaming again but hope we get a choice of two different itineries.
Just think a couple of hours flight and then on the boat. Pure heaven for us from England.

That's not a rumor, it's been confirmed for a while now. The exact itinerary is not set, but the cruises will sail out of Barcelona. Dates should come out by April. We are already waitlisted for the Roy or Walt suite! :cool1:

Can't wait. :sunny:

You say it's been confirmed for a while but since DCL hasn't released the dates yet how can you possibly been waitlisted for either suite???????

While I would love to cruise Disney over in Europe I just can't even begin to imagine the costs associated with them. We took our three teens on a 10 night with Princess out of Southampton this summer and the trip cost us a fortune. We had a mini-suite (which on Princess can go for less than a verandah balcony) and an inside for our 3 kids and it was just under $10,000. Add the $6,000 in airfare to London and then 4 nights pre-cruise hotel, food, tour excursions, transfers, etc and it all added up. I can't begin to imagine what 2 cabins on Disney would go for!

Alot of people, myself included, are waitlisted for rooms already b/c we've faxed DCL Inventory Control. You can request either a specific stateroom number or a specific category. Plus you let them know when you would like to go or if there is a specific cruise, like a repo for example, you just request that without a date since you don't know the dates yet.

I don't have the fax number, but I know if you do a search on here you should be able to easily find it.

I do know that you can fax in your request for a suite or stateroom while awaiting the dates to be released but what do you do for this kind of situation? Did you simply fax them a request for a stateroom for 2007 Med itinerary? Since you don't have any deposit down does that mean that DCL will honor your fax that you sent in way ahead of time over allowing others to book a cabin once the cruise goes on sale? I would think this would be hard to do for DCL as there are so many of us who could fax in a request for a stateroom without a specific date since since it's not a done deal yet!

We did a 12 day Carnival Liberty Cruise in 8/05 that started and ended in Rome and it was wonderful!

Like everyone I too have been waiting for the rest of the 07 cruises to be annouced, because we will probably be staying Germany until 09 (DH is Air Force) a DCL Med cruise would be fabulous!

If the Disney Magic goes to the Mediterranen in summer 2007 (which I believe will happen), my guesses are:

  • The Disney Magic will be based at a single Mediterranen port. (The Disney Magic was based at a single US West Coast port, Los Angeles, in summer 2005).
  • Civitavecchia, Italy (near Rome), could be the Disney Magic's base port, but if I were a betting man, I'd put my money on Barcelona, Spain.
  • The Disney Magic will either sail a series of identical 7-night itineraries, or a series of alternating, similar 10- and 11-night itineraries. (During her 12 weeks based in Los Angeles in summer 2005, the Disney Magic sailed identical 7-night Mexican Riveria itineraries, except for one 6-night cruise due to a charity event in port.)

This would be Disney Cruise Line's first time offering cruises in the Mediterranen. Organizing everything will be a huge undertaking, and one that DCL is not used to. With just a limited number of cruises, there is no reason to make this work effort more difficult than it needs to be. And the sales and marketing effort will be more effective if Disney can publish and promote a single itinerary.

Assuming there is any sales/marketing effort .. they never spent a dime to promote the West Coast cruises. If you weren't "in the loop" about the Magic coming to CA, by the time many people found out the ship was already back in FL!!
