DH surprised me with a trip to Disney for my birthday. Now first of all DH never does anything like this. He didn't book for the kids to go, so this is our first solo trip in 20 year anywhere, so Disney has to be perfect. We are doing a split stay, 3 nights at POFQ with deluxe dining and 3 days at AKL Concierge level, no dining plan. Part of the gift was that I got to do all of the reservations, and he wouldn't complain... :cool1::cool1:

So I thought, since this was a leisurely trip, no kids, only one character meal = perfect opportunity for a dining review. Our dates our February 11 - February 18th. (Visiting a friend for 2 days)

So first the proper introduction:

Feel free to make comments on would do's, wouldn't do's, and any questions you may have. I am getting excited 2 weeks to go!!!!!

Wow what a great husband. You have a wonderful line up of restuarants there.

Make sure to save some time for snacking in the CL lounge. They have nice appetizers and some cute little desserts.

Sounds like a blast! We also will be in the world the same days as you with DxDP but staying at POP and then AKV for our last night. Have fun and Happy Birthday!

I know. We don't have the dining plan during that time, so I am hoping to pop back to the resort and enjoy. I have never been able to do this. My kids are go, go, go. This will definitely be a new experience. I also plan on trying the beignets that everyone talks about!!

Pop is our usual resort. I have stayed at the CBR once in 2000, the rest of our trips have all been Pop. We love Pop. DH thought I would "miss" the kids if we were there without them. Will you be at AKL one of our date?

Count me in! popcorn::

I absolutely love AKL Club Level!

Kathy

You are hereby counted. I even have DH bringing both of my camera's so no forgetting pictures. I know I will, I am sure I will be in birthday overload at times.

I can't wait to leave so I can start. Well, not really, because I hate coming home.:sad2:

Wow what a treat!! How sweet of your husband.

Have not been to the magical place on earth yet so can not comment on your ressies but am looking forward to hearing all about them as you are visiting quite a few of the places we are looking to eat at :thumbsup2

Thanks for coming along. I have updated the 2nd. post, we were still unable to get LeCellier. I think I am tired of trying to look 10 times a day. I need to clean the house and start packing.

You dont have long now! You have a great DH! Mine booked us the Poly CL for our anniversary last yr..was a dream come true! Have an amazing time!

On our Dec. 2009 trip, my DD and I couldn't get reservations at LeCellier. We stopped there around noon one day and got cheese soup and pretzel breaksticks to go. We sat on the benches at Off Kilter (which were empty) and enjoyed our food. We did have company though.:rotfl:

Thank you, I hope we do. The trip is coming up way to quick. I am far from ready, still need to clean and put up the 5 Poster boards with the rules and reminders on how to wash the dishes, clothes, and teenage bodies:rotfl:. I am leaving DD18 in control of her brother 15. DH hopes that the carefree feeling of Disney overrules the "Mother" instinct that will happen. He even asked that I not bring my phone, he will filter the calls. We will see!!

I think we may try that. Minus the extra friend. Don't tell anyone, but squirrels freak me out!!

Sounds like a great line up of meals, can't wait to hear all about them!popcorn:: Birthdays in WDW are always so much fun! It made turning 40 so much easier for me ;)

40 would be wonderful, but I will be 1/2 way to 50 on my birthday. Or only 1/2 way past 40. :confused3

We are back. If you check my first post I changed a few meals (new one is in read, kept the original in there just so you can see what we missed).

I have a few comments before starting.

Our meals ranged from 6 to 10. I have NEVER had a 6 at Disney before. So this is new to me. I don't like saying bad things unless they really are deserving.

Deluxe was tough for us. We had some very tired days and getting meals in was taxing. Then when we had to make he changes, I felt guilty, as in not using the credit. I didn't care about the "value" of the credit, just wanted to use it. I took as many pictures as I could, but as like all of us, sometimes hunger beat over the camera.

I have all the prices both from the DxDDP and the OOP portion of our trip. So I will do a value comparison at the end. For the record, I paid for our dining plan, I missed free dining by a few weeks. Hope you stick around and please ask any questions. I will try to answer as many as I possibly can.

I am finally ready to start posting. Photobucket and I are not on good terms, but I will do my best. I usually am quite witty if I do say so myself, but the meds the doctor put me on, have me blah:sick:, so please excuse the blah report, they should get better as we go along!

Kona Cafe - 2/13/11 ADR time 7:35pm, arrived 7:05pm, not seated until at least 7:45pm. They were taking walk-ups. I think because many tables that were being seated late (with small children) were leaving.

Kona was hopping on this Sunday night. I was really surprised. I was even more surprised that people were leaving and getting tables at Ohana. I couldn't believe the number of people who had ADR's at both restaurants and were just going back and forth to see which one would seat them first. It's amazing what you do notice when you don't bring the kids with you. DH and I were not in any hurry, so the wait was okay.

So you have to start with the perfect picture....

Okay, DH took it, not so perfect...hehe! And this was our view from the table looking out...

So not everything can be perfect, but you know what, it was just wonderful to sit and enjoy the meal with no one looking in at us, so I will take it!!

The waitress we had was not happy that I wanted to order my meal slowly, we ordered our drinks and waited for them before ordering anything else. Note we are pretty boring when it comes to drinks, and cheap... So I had an un-sweet tea and DH had a coke.

This came out with the drinks:

I love this bread and the butter which is whipped with honey and macadamia nuts, we went through 2 loaves...

We started with the sticky wings for 2. I had to fight with DH because he really wanted pot stickers and our waitress wouldn't make an exception... But the "it's my birthday" card won out!!

Hmmmm they were tasty!!

The wings were wonderful, totally beat out Ohana wings. And the waitress provided hot towels, a really nice touch!

Our main course was also very good. DH had the Teriyaki-style New York Strip and I had the Pomegranate Barbecued Pork Chop. DH looked at me like I had two heads. See I am a creature of habit. I never change up my meal. I always have strip, but I promised myself a few new meals for my birthday. I am glad I made the change. The pork was moist, cooked perfect (I kind of freak:scared1: at pink, and no pink showed). DH's steak was cooked perfect, and he only had a little bit of tough in there. I find that happens to us often at Kona. Not enough to ruin the meal, but enough that DH gave it a 6, because he only could eat 6/10th. of the steak.

No meal is complete without dessert!!:yay::yay::yay:

I had the Banana-Chocolate Creme Brulee and DH had the White Chocolate Cheesecake. This is where DH totally went against his norm - he is a Chocoholic, and White Chocolate doesn't count in his book.:confused3

We shared bites and both desserts were wonderful. I really didn't like the actual banana on the dessert, but there was so much of the brulee it didn't really matter.

I have to give props to Kona, only one of three restaurants that recognized our celebration. They brought out really cute cupcakes for us, and then the waitress even boxed them up for me.

(sorry, had the hardest time getting a picture of them).

Overall we gave Kona an 8 out of 10. Yep, a few things were a bit shaky, but the meal was very good overall. This restaurant is always a keeper on my list. I am glad we can count on it each trip to at least be consistent.

Once again, sorry I am a bit boring here, :rolleyes1, it should get better, or at least I hope so.

Great report so far!

Kona Question: About the wings, you said: "our waitress wouldn't make an exception..." Is that because the wings are an appetizer for 2 on the deluxe dining plan? I was looking at the menu and it doesn't specify, so I was curious.

Great review of Kona Cafe...am glad you managed to use your birthday to get the sticky wings :thumbsup2

The desserts look great!
