It Looks Like the Death Numbers are Being Inflated

Editing to add that I do not watch FOX news but this came up in a search. So, please do not condemn the report just because of the source.

Just for clarity's sake -- the statement that "the government is classifying" is NOT the same thing as saying all of their death certificates state covid-19 as the cause of death.
"The government is classifying" could mean that a department of government is collecting stats and using the numbers in certain report(s) as that department of government wishes to do so at that time for the purposes of that report, whatever those purposes may be.

I thought I would share what my daughter posted on Facebook today. She states it very well.

"I just have to write this because I keep seeing that the covid patients deaths are not really related to covid and it’s made up numbers by the media.

The patients dying in the ICU are dying from covid. It may not be the fever, maybe not even their lungs failing them. But, they are reaching lab results in other areas that is most definitely caused by covid. Covid is affecting more than lungs and a fever. It’s destroying kidneys, requiring emergent dialysis. The kidneys cause high levels of potassium. Potassium affects your heart. It is causing blood clots, which in turn, affects lungs, hearts, and brain. It is causing liver problems as well.
There is no denying this because in the ICU we are trending the same labs in all these patients. People with almost no past medical history now have problems that are life threatening. And all of these patients have the same values we’re looking at.

So yes, covid is killing other parts of their body which is why their deaths are related to covid."

She has been dealing with this from the beginning and told me today she has to keep reminding herself of the numbers for survivor rates. Dealing with this has been so difficult she is talking of leaving nursing because it is taking an emotional toll on her. She is strong and she will survive. I am immensely proud of her.

This is very similar to some of the stuff I've been hearing secondhand through several people I know. Those who are doing this work are a blessing to us all.

I've heard several concerns expressed about the future prognosis of patients they get through this crisis simply because of the unknown aspects of the ravages this thing is leaving behind and whether they can be reversed. I've heard a lot of concern that even those who have intention of continuing on with their careers once the crisis has passed may be hampered by things like PTSD once their adrenalin levels subside.

You should be very proud of your daughter. It is a wonderful thing she is doing.

Thank you I am very proud of her especially because she took the hard road to get where she is. Believe it or not she was a high school drop out. There were reasons we allowed it, safety being one of them. She got her GED, her associates, was accepted to every nursing school she applied to and then went to nursing school with babies to take care of. She was destined for this work but I do worry about her mental state, especially when this is all over with.

I can say that based on what she said some patients are going to have life long issues when they recover. That is still a huge unknown. Patients where the kidneys have been hit hard will be on dialysis until hopefully they can get a kidney transplant. Initial survivors may still die from the effects of the disease down the road and the worst part is they can't predict who will be hit hard. Patients with all the risk factors walk out completely ok and patients who are young and healthy die. I have canceled a long planned cruise based on her advice because my husband is at high risk. I would rather stay isolated than risk further damaging his health.

If a person has a heart condition or cancer, but goes swimming in the ocean and dies from a shark attack, the primary cause of death is the shark attack. Underlying conditions or other reasons don't matter!

Same thing applies for Covid.
If a person has a heart condition, but goes swimming in the ocean and is attacked my a shark, but only dies because he had a heart attack, is it a shark attack or heart attack that killed him. This is a better analogy.

Agreed - the person might have lived for decades with those conditions if not for the shark attack.

Someone on my facebook feed posted that it wasn't "fair" to include this example as "covid death." Person on hospice care because of terminal cancer contracts Covid 19. Dies. To me, it's still a "covid death" as it hastened that person's death...even if they would have died in a month or two anyway. Think of this analogy. A person with terminal cancer (given 1-2 months to live) dies in a car accident. We STILL say the cause of death was the car accident....we don't say "hey, it's not fair to call that a car accident death since they were going to die anyway." In the example my friend gave, the person died WITH cancer, not because of it. The cancer may have have weakened their defenses, but it was the Covid that brought abot the death at that time. And, are we REALLY going to start arguing that "hey, they only had another month or two anyway so no big deal." With that attitude, we are ALL terminal, 100% of us. So, maybe Covid causes no deaths, since we were all going to die anyway.

My only question is how someone can be out drunk driving right now. I guess it’s possible but it has to be happening a lot less at the moment.
You don't need a bar open to drink, heck look at how many people complained on this forum about liquor stores being closed. You also don't have to be driving home from the bar to be driving under the influence. You don't need a reason at all for someone to be out in a car drunk or otherwise.

People can't go the the mall, restaurants, or bars. They still can go to friends' houses, drink all night, and go home. Not everyone is cowering in their homes, not everyone is dressing up like hazmat. Some of us just go on as normal without the malls, restaurants, and bars because we've always taken precautions such as washing our hands.

Where I live we are told not to visit friends or family. Stay home and only go out for essentials. Here if drunk driving happens it looks bad cause you shouldn't be out visiting.

The lack of critical thinking and common sense in discussing and communicating about Covid-19 is causing so much fear and *******. I have friends on social media who are posting things that are patently untrue, half-truths or complete hearsay and what makes me upset is that all they are doing is contributing more to the unrest. Common sense and decency are being thrown out the window. I don't know if people are doing such things for attention or out of fear, but it's just not helpful at all.
Fear, both ways. Fear of death for some, fear of evil government/main stream media agenda propaganda for others.

It was originally thought that COVID-19 only affected the lungs. It's now known that it can damage other organs: heart, brain, kidneys, even the skin. In NYC, they've been seeing crazy high numbers of cardiac arrest calls to the EMS. Normally it's 60-ish per day; once the epidemic kicked off it shot up and is now running around 300 a day. Hospitals are learning to test people who come in with a suspected heart attack because a lot of them are positive for coronavirus. So. Given that we know COVID can damage the heart, is it wrong to put COVID on the death certificate if a person who's known to be infected with COVID has a cardiac arrest? No; it would be misleading to not list that as a contributing cause.

This article speaks to the issue of what looks like a heart attack not being due to blockages but due to other covid-related damage: https://www.usnews.com/news/health-...covid-19-patients-other-issues-may-be-at-play

I saw another article a few days ago, but can't find it now, that also spoke to this issue. It described patients who present in the ER appearing to have heart attacks and in some cases they get them all the way to the cath lab before it is determined it isn't a blockage, and further investigation determines it is covid. They discussed how they are changing their 'how to deal with a heart attack' procedures as a result, eg doing an ultrasound to confirm blockage before sending to the cath lab, and testing for covid.

This exactly! They did not die that day from cancer. It is a Covid death! Not sure what people don't understand.
