“There are other nations that if you had a pre-current issue, and let’s say the virus caused you to go to the ICU [intensive care unit] and then have a heart or kidney problem,” she said all through a Tuesday news briefing at the White Dwelling. “Some countries are recording that as a coronary heart difficulty or a kidney challenge and not a COVID-19 dying.
“The intent is … if somebody dies with COVID-19 we are counting that,” she included.”
She is very clear about what she means by this. When people have been hospitalized with COVID-19 and have some other underlying conditions, COVID-19 is the acute cause of their death. Their heart disease, kidney disease, cancer etc. may be the long-term cause, but the acute, immediate cause of their death is COVid-19. That’s why those are being counted.
