It All Started With (An Eloborate Plot to See) A Mouse: A Feb 2014 PTR! (UD: 03/02!)

We watch Sesame Street on Netflix, and I'm pretty sure we've watched every episode that's up there 10+ times each. I guess that's an improvement over the 13 episodes of Yo Gabba Gabba that was basically on repeat. Yikes.
I just got season 2 and 3 of The Muppet Show, so I'm gonna try that out on Stormy. Not as educational, but I need a break from Sesame Street, lol!QUOTE]

oh, we loved yo gabba gabba! I even took our oldest to see them when they were here. it was like a crazy concert for toddlers! she loved it and cried when it was over. i'm so sad they took it off Netflix because we don't have cable and that was the only way we saw it. I was just singing their Halloween song the other night..."candy, candy, it tastes yummy but.....candy, candy gets crazy in your tummy!" :rotfl:

you're a good mama watching the muppets! I remember getting up early Saturday mornings when I was little to watch it before cartoons came on. everybody needs a little Kermit, Swedish chef, and those crabs up in the balcony! besides, stormy won't understand muppets 3D at Disney if he doesn't see it before you go! ;) (see how I can justify anything if I relate it to Disney?)

so i'm getting ready to sign up for my next 5K. it's called the ugly sweater run and you're supposed to wear an ugly Christmas sweater. :lmao: there's a 1/2 mile run for kids that our oldest wants to do called the reindeer shuffle. i'm glad she wants to try it. she has my husbands metabolism (thank goodness!) but i'm happy I can feel like a good influence and maybe start a healthy habit for her.

Yeah, it stinks they took it off netflix. When it was still there, we rotated between that and Sesame Street, and didn't go crazy. I do sort of miss DJ Lance, lol.

I've seen a couple ugly sweater runs! There's one here next weekend, but I already blew my race money for the month on my next 10k (in 2 weekends). I try to stay around $50-60/month now for races, and the race I'm doing on the 17th is a Chocolate race. Mwahahah! It was $50, though. Ouch.

When is your run? Are you going to go to a thrift store for a sweater or do you have one in mind? I wanna do one next year, just to see all the awesome sweaters, lol! I hope you guys see some terrible ones. Stormy is signed up for a kids dash (100m) when we go to disney, and I'm hoping that when he gets older he'll choose to run with me, that's awesome that your daughter is doing a race!

WHAT is a chocolate run? chocolate I might actually run for! lol! :rotfl2: yeah, I try to keep it around $30 for a race and my goal is to do 4 a year, so that's not too bad. I'm also trying (though not always) to do races that give most of the money to a charity of some sort. that way I don't feel like i'm just spending $30 on a tshirt! ;)

the ugly sweater is on dec 7. I have to find a sweater to wear because I don't have one. who knows what I'll find! hopefully something good...or bad? :) if I can't find anything for a couple bucks, I might just wear a pair of antlers with jingle bells we have or find a crazy santa hat or something. I have a shirt I made that I want to wear for all the races, so I won't be too disappointed if I can't find anything. my shirt is just a tshirt, but on the back I wrote "40 5ks in my 40s", and numbered it 1-40. then, i'm crossing out the numbers as I do the walks. I want to wear it for every race, if it lasts!

I did the color run with some friends when it was here in September and when I came home all covered in color hannah was sad that she didn't get to come with me. I told her she could come next time I do a color run and get messy with me, but in the meantime, she could try the reindeer shuffle. she thought that was a funny name and said she wanted to try, so she's in for now. my husband used to run cross country in high school, so maybe she'll be a runner. I just want to be a better example, you know?

how cute will Stormy be in his run! is he dressing up too? i'm so glad to have "met" someone on here to talk about the 5ks with! ::yes:: i'm trying to stay motivated, but my husband gets tired of hearing me talk about them and Disney! I know, what is wrong with him?!?

This is my chocolate run.
And I said the SAME thing! There's a chocolate fountain at the end?!? I WILL RUN MY VERY BEST!

I've mostly looked at the charities it goes to (My Halloween run was for a local shelter, and it was a pet friendly run. It was pretty cute.), I should probably pay more attention to how much goes to the charity.

I love that you have the numbered shirt! All of the shirts I notice (and some of the most motivating ones) are the custom/handmade ones, they're all great! If it hasn't happened yet, I bet people will start noticing your shirt over and over (there's a guy who's been at all of my runs so far. He dresses in head to toe red, white and blue, lol! And he has a few different outfits).

The color runs look fun. I had some friends do one that came here recently. My coworker was trying to get a group of us together to do it, but it fell through. Maybe next year. =D

I'm totally dressing up Stormy! I found a Ralph print fabric on Spoonflower, in Jersey knit, so he's going to get a Wreck it Ralph inspired activewear outfit. And then an adult is allowed to run with the tots for their dash, so Baloo is getting dressed up as Felix, and I'm going to be in all black (Sgt. Calhoun). I think it'll be the only time I can get all of us dressed up. :rotfl2:

I like having someone to talk to about races and stuff! My husband is supportive, he comes to the race and stands at the sidelines with the baby and everything, but it's definitely nice to have someone who is right there in them too. =D I'll get him to do a 5k one of these days...:rotfl:

Ooooo, that chocolate run looks yummy! There's one here I thought about doing called the cupcake 5k. There are checkpoints along the route where you can choose to eat a cupcake and get minutes knocked off your final time or not eat and have minutes added. It looked fun--people dress up in cupcake outfits and stuff--but I couldn't get anyone to go with me and I didn't want to eat the cupcakes (you could sign up as teams). There's lots of fun ones in St. Louis. I moved here from Nebraska several years ago and one of the things I love about St. Louis is that almost everything comes here. There's always something new or interesting or fun to do!

I'll have to take a picture of my shirt and post it for you to see. I just wanted something fun to help me see my progress.

We are totally into wreck it Ralph right now. We hadn't seen it since it was in the theater and I found it at the library. We love it right now. Our favorite line is when sgt Calhoun says "what's the first rule of heroes duty, soldier?" And Ralph says "no cuts, no buts, no coconuts?" For some reason that just cracks us up! Anyway, you guys will look so cute all dressed up!

The color run (and all the other ones like it--the color vibe and whatever) is SO fun. I did it with 3 friends in September and we had a blast. It's not timed and is so fun! Everyone is just relaxed and silly and they are just promoting good health. It was great. They are here again next year in April and September and I know I'll be doing one of those. We saw some of the funniest shirts too--"my mascara runs faster than I do", "I've got a bad case of the runs", "I thought they said RUM!" And tutus and crazy wigs and even one lady in a wedding dress she trimmed down. You should do it if it comes back. When I came home Madison took one look at me and said "you're filthy!" And hannah said "I want to do it!" :rotfl:

I'm trying to get my DH to do a 5k with me too. I think I might sign us up for one that's downtown on thanksgiving morning called the hungry turkey. After the race you get to go in a VIP area and watch the downtown thanksgiving day parade which I've always wanted to do. He's not a fan of being downtown when it's crowded so i might have to get the girls to ask him--he can't resist them!

I was reading an article about how running has boomed in popularity over the last decade or so, and it mentioned themed runs, and they listed the cupcake run! That sounds so awful, lol! I loooove cupcakes, I'm not so sure I could easily get one down while running. I can barely get down an energy gel without hurling. :rotfl2: Those don't taste nearly as good as cupcakes, though... I'd totally try a cupcake run, just once.

I was going to do our thanksgiving day run (The Turkey Trot), but I was reading that people had to wait at the finish line to cross (messing up their times), so I picked the chocolate instead (I need a good time, so I can get a better corral placement for the Princess.).

Mini Update!
Today I started our countdown to Disneeeeey. Day 101! Stormy and I watched 101 Dalmatians! (Today was a work day for both Baloo and I, so he goes in the morning, gets home, then I leave for work, then he's in bed by the time I get home, so we couldn't all 3 watch it. Boo). I made up a list of all the Disney movies I have, and put them in order of release date, and we'll be watching just about 1 each day, plus season 1 of the Muppet Show. I counted 97, I think, between my movies and episodes, and the other days are going to be Christmas and Thanksgiving (where we won't watch anything), and then a day is set aside for Frozen and for Saving Mr. Banks, and then one day for whatever I figure out to do with it. I'm sure another Disney movie will come out before our trip. :rotfl:

Obviously 101 Dalmatians is out of order, but it's ok. =D

IMG_0506_zps4f93713c.jpg

I tried to get a picture with Stormy in it, but he wasn't cooperating, but here's a title screen of 101 Dalmatians. It's relevant because Stormy's name is there! Stormy was partially named after one of Walt's "Nine Old Men". Yay!

IMG_0505_zps525e7fc6.jpg

And last, I finished a second Race Bib board today. My other one holds bibs and medals, this one just holds the bibs, for the races that didn't have finisher medals. I love the quote, I heard the song Defying Gravity (Wicked) on my Disney Pandora station, and I can't get enough of it! I also love that my first one was Art Nouveau font, and this one feels really art deco.

how exciting! 101 days! I was going to try to do movies for the girls every couple of days, but they get stuck on one and want to watch it over and over, so i'm just going with whatever they want to watch. we still have the paperchain to countdown (54 days!! they can't go by fast enough!), so i'm cool with that.

I did not know your race times made a difference when you do the run at Disney. I guess I would be the last one out! :rotfl2:

I love your new board for your race bibs! we saw wicked when it was in St Louis years ago. it's awesome! I would love to have a Disney Pandora station! I might have to check into that!

So I hopped over from my TR... and see this IS your first 1/2! So Woo!

What a super inspiring journey you are on! Congrats on all of it! You are doing awesome! And it's awesome you love running... that makes all the difference I think.

I am hoping now that I don't have the pressure of the distance I can just RUN for fun and not be stressed...and that might make the difference of me LIKING it or not. We'll see.. I really did not enjoy my training and the distances were so hard for me......

Your DS is ADORABLE. And I'm exited to follow your journey to your first 1/2 knowing I was just where you were a few short months.

I LOVE your craft medal boards. I'm actually looking to make one for mine. I just bought the finish line pics! Hands up and TOTALLY busted into tears as I crossed that line!

I also see/read you are from Michigan. I am now relocated to Chicago burbs..but I was born in Allen Park & all my family is located in the Downriver area- Southgate, Dearborn, Woodhaven, Lincoln Park.... we visit frequently.

finally remembered to take a picture of the 5k shirt I made to show you, since I know you'll appreciate it more then my DH did! :lmao: it's nothing special, but i'm excited to wear it and get a lot of those numbers crossed out!

aren't sharpies just so amazingly fun?!? :rotfl:

(i'm not sure why this is upside down and so big. it's right side up and smaller on photobucket, but it won't change for some reason. maybe it'll be right when you see it.....?)

Ok, I'm horrible! I KNOW I read your intro before because I remember it and thinking how we have a lot in common growing up with weight issues, but I was not subbed and never responded??? I swear I did, but I guess it was in my head. :rolleyes1

I'm all caught up and subbed now, so you can carry on. ;)

Hey, we're both staying at POP!!! :thumbsup2

Haha, I'm lucky that Stormy is mostly not interested. We can get through the movies and not have to repeat them. :rotfl: It's obviously more for me.

I'm working on our countdown thingy, I can't wait to make it. I got almost everything I needed the other day at Joanns.

Yup! If you have proof of time for under 3hrs 15mins (about a 15 min mile, give or take), you can submit it to be placed in a better starting corral. My chocolate run ended up going badly. =( (Why I hadn't updated yet, lol! I was really irritated). It was the first year they've done this race. There were not enough bathrooms. >> I couldn't get to a bathroom before the start of the race, so I pushed through to the bathroom I knew they'd have on the route. They ended up having one.single.port a potty. ONE. AGH. So I waited in line for about 20 minutes (effectively killing any hope of a personal best). My gps timer (which I paused at the bathroom) said I maintained a 12 min mile. ;-; The time I have to submit is a 13 minute mile, huuuge difference. Owell. Guess I'll just be passing a bunch of people at the start of the race.

Thank you! I'm working on a board for a friend now, who's started running races with me. :cheer: After the first one we did together, she went home and signed up for another. =D

I really wanna see Wicked! So far I've only seen Disney stuff on stage (Beauty and the Beast, Mary Poppins and Lion King.) Just waiting it to come to us, if it ever does.

So I hopped over from my TR... and see this IS your first 1/2! So Woo!

Thank you! Haha, it took a bit to love the running. There were some painful miles, well, there still are, haha! I used to hyperventilate going out on my longer runs (right now I do 2 30 mins and then 1 long), because I kept psyching myself out. I've finally gotten confident enough that I"m not doing that anymore (thank goodness!)

I'm so excited for the crossing the finish moment. I'm pretty sure I'll be crying too. I've almost cried at the end of some 5 miles runs, haha.

We're actually in the Royal Oak area! (A mile up the road from the Detroit Zoo, hehe!) I grew up in West MI, but my husband is from RO. All his family is over here too, I know he's got an aunt who lives in Dearborn, and I think she teaches there too, and a cousin who's in Allen Park and teaches in that area too. :) How do you like Chicago compared to Detroit? I've been working in Detroit now for 4 years, and I've found myself loving the city more everyday, despite all the scary stuff written about it.

Yay! I love it! <3 Your handwriting is so much nicer than mine, lol. My coworkers make fun of me all the time for my chicken scratch.

That's such a great idea to write the race and the date too!

I always end up wearing the shirt the race gives with registration, but then I can't find myself in any of the pictures. :rotfl: I should start wearing unique shirts.

Tsk tsk! :rotfl: But you're subbed now, so it's forgiven! Haha!

Yay, Pop! Have you put in a request for a specific building? :)

Yes! We have stayed there three times, so this time I chose 60's lake view. We really liked the 50's but wanted something different and closer to the hippy dippy pool this time. 50's lake view was awesome, we had a fireworks view and it was really quiet and pretty. 70s was my least favorite.

:)

I actaully like Detroit a lot too. My dad (divorced from my mom) lived in the apartments right next to the Ren Center for years- and I still remember waking up and looking out the window at the Ambassador bridge as a child. We used to walk up the freeway to one of my absolute favorite places on this Earth - even to this day- Kings Bookstore - and spend all day Saturday wandering!

We also would take the ferry over to Boblo a lot & I have very fond memories of that place from my childhood.

But I also love Chicago. I love the vibe of the city... and the theaters & the resturants & the museums. Chicago is a way different vite than Detroit. It's more like NYC or San Fran for me. Where Detroit is more like my hometown full of childhood memories. So diffierent feeling... but I love them both! :)

PS- Wicked is my FAVORITE musical of all time. I've seen it 5 times. The last just 2 weeks ago- as it's currently in Chicago. You should roadrip West 5 hours to see it- it's worth it!

1 bathroom on the route? That is absolute crazy business! Clearly someone wasn't thinking clearly. BUT, even with the bathroom holdup, a twelve minute mile is FREAKIN' AWESOME! Even if you didn't get a personal best (YET cuz I'm sure you will!) and have to turn in a 13 min mile, you are still doing amazing and should be proud of what you did! Besides, just think of all the people you'll be passing who can admire your tiana costume as you fly by! :goodvibes

Love the running shirt and wish you success in crossing out those numbers. that takes dedication

We are trying to go for quieter, so I know we decided not to ask for 60s, because of the pool (I dunno if it makes that big a difference, but anything to help our 20month old sleep better, haha!). We were looking at 50s or 70s lake view (4th floor, if it can be managed). Why was 70s your least favorite?

That all sounds awesome. :goodvibes I grew up a country girl, but I took to the city really well, lol. We just went back to my parents house for thanksgiving this week, and when we went into town, I was just sitting in the car like 'are we there yeeeeet?'. I love having so much stuff so close by.

Hehe, thanks! 13 min mile is at least better than last corral, and something to work from in the future, so that's cool, I guess. Just submitted my time today (whoops) and I got an auto-response saying it could take them 48-72 hours to get to my email, so we'll see if it gets through in time.

Yup, just 1. I was so upset over it. 3,000 runners on that path (and another 3,000 on a different trail for the 5k), and they thought 1 bathroom was cool. Ugh.

Bit of an update!

Got my email today from RunDis saying they'd updated my corral placement! Very excited about that, because I emailed it Nov. 30th and got an auto reply saying it'd be 2-3 days to get a response (took 5, actually. =O ) and I was worried that since that was past the cutoff date, I wouldn't get replaced, but they looked at the sent date, so yay!

Next, got my countdown project done! I had a different project in mind, but it started costing waaaay too much (I think it was upwards of $35 I was at? Yuck. ) so I rethought it out, and came up with something that was under $5!

DSCN3535_zpscb4c23a8.jpg

The Mickey head was painted with chalkboard paint. We'll see if it works!

DSCN3536_zpsdce0c62c.jpg

I painted the ribbon myself, so naturally, I threw on a hidden Mickey, hehe! I do need to find a better way to do it, though, because it smudged a few times.

Other news, we started our Christmas Countdown Calender! Yaaaay!

Disney, of course!

Each piece has a character on it. I'm going to save the container, because it's actually also a mold!

Stormy enjoying dinner and his chocolate piece.

In baby development news, Stormy has a new word! "Coco" which is his word for cookie/cracker, and he's recently learned to say "Bye!" when he waves too! So crazy that he's getting so vocal these days. Hopefully he doesn't figure out what "No" means anytime soon. :rotfl: (He uses it to mean "yes" most of the time)

Congrats on getting bumped up in Corral placement! It really makes a difference, I think!! :thumbsup2

Love the Disney advent calendar...where did you find it? We do a chocolate calendar every year and I've never seen a Disney one! Very cool!

and I LOVE the countdown board! AWESOME!

Love the Disney advent calendar...where did you find it? We do a chocolate calendar every year and I've never seen a Disney one! Very cool!

and I LOVE the countdown board! AWESOME!

Thanks!

I hope it does! I know my time is better than what I submitted, so I'm still going to end up passing people (I hope, lol!). How do the corrals work, by the way? One 10k I did, they had waves, and each wave started 10 mins after the previous. Do they do that for Disney, and if so, does that mean that the 3 1/2 hour time limit doesn't actually start until after the last corral is started?

I got the advent calender at Meijer! We saw it a couple weeks ago (begining of Nov, I think) and I felt kinda silly getting it that early, but I didn't think I'd find it again if I didn't.

Correct. The time limit starts after the LAST person has crossed the starting line. The corrals are going to be a bit different this year, but from what we know, probably around 16 corrals. The beginning ones they release every 2 minutes, then 3, then down to about 5 between. Not sure how they decide this timing yet, but that's how it looks to be. You'll be great with time! :thumbsup2

As for not liking the 70s at Pop...a couple reasons. It feels in the middle of everything and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the lake. I NEED to see it, and when I was in the 70s, I couldn't. AND, I really don't care for the 1970s in general. :p I'm an 80s girl, so 70s stuff just seems OLD to me. :lmao:
