Who's going to encourage this revolution? The CIA run by the Bush administration that has no credibility? Why would anybody, in their right mind, trust anything that comes out of the US government. It would've been a possible solution if the last 4 years had never happened. Unfortunately, they did happen.

The people of Iran are being and have been feed their news by the government. That government has been telling them, from 1979, that the west is evil, can't be trusted, wants them dead. The youths (under 30) have been demanding change twards a more open and free society. I think they would try to revolt in some way, maybe not armed, but voting for moderates. This happened in the last round of elections there. They may change the government, not because the U.S. wants them too, but because they want to. A little bit of info and help from the CIA (or some other similar organization) can be the tipping point. Regardless of who is in the Whitehouse, the CIA can run a covert "Overthrow Government" type of operation. They have done it before.

But the second we drop bombs on them, or get caught sending in the CIA to meddle in their affairs, we will have lost this generation and find ourselves facing another 40 years of hostilities.

Everybody in Iran - even the ones who hate their current governement - looks next door to Iraq and sees what US "help" looks like.

Exactly! The Iranians are taking a good look at what US help really means. You get invaded for no damned good reason, they arrest you, torture and humiliate you in places like Abu Ghraib, and they send in mercenaries like Black Water Security.

Maybe some of the people in this country ought to wake up and see the damage the Bush administration has really done to this country. The same people who don't give a damn what the rest of the world thinks as if arrogance/ignorance is a badge of honor, ought to understand this country is no longer trusted or seen as a shining beacon. We're seen as a rogue nation that answers to no one and has a nuclear arsenal.

They did vote for moderates. Mohammad Khatami, who ran on a reform ticket, was president of Iran from1997-2005. When his government made overtures to the US in 2003, he was told "we don't talk to evil". Add to that the "axis of evil" bloviating and the invasion of Iraq, and Bush administration threw another opportunity down the crapper.

Btw, meddling by the US and the CIA is what set up the Islamic revolution in Iran.

Everyone in Iran is also looking at Bush doing what he said he would do: Stay until the job is done. That could make a big difference to those who are waiting for the right opertunity to do something. They see the U.S as actually staying around to try to fix what went wrong.
