Isn't $500.00 a night a little hefty for a standard room?

Come to think of it...we did get a Concierge-level room that was a bit nicer than the standard rooms they have (but w/o concierge access) with a GREAT view of Paradise Pier. Perhaps they gave us an free upgrade because it was our anniversary, but I can't be sure. We also booked in the middle of high season, which cost us about $430.00.

Yeah, I'd double check w/ the travel agent to make sure that everything is in order. Good luck.

Something really seems wrong...We are going the week of March 21 for 5 days and we paid a little over $280/night for a standard view. Even when we stayed there last May in a one bedroom suite we paid only (hah) $680/night. Paying $500/night for standard view just doesn't seem right. :confused3

Your travel agent is not going to be incentivized to call on their own and work hard to get you a lower rate as this will also lower their commission. Call the hotel directly, ask them what exactly you have booked and how much it is in US$. Even if the hotel is reserved and paid for, it is still within the cancellation period so there is no reason why you would not be able to cancel it unless it IS a package.

Once you have this information, then go back and sit down with your travel agent and firmly explain to them what you want them to do and then sit and watch them do it. Normally travel agents are wonderful and professional and helpful but just like with everything else sometimes you get one that you need to monitor a little closer. :confused3

If it is CAD $500 then it would be USD $440.

Still seems way to high!

I checked all the web sites and it looks like all the DL hotels are booked solid for your dates. Looks like your stuck unless you stay offsite.

$500/night. That seems high even for Disney standard for a regular room.

It's probably a package deal with everything thrown in, including the sink.

Yikes! Do people really pay that much to stay in a hotel room per night??? There's has to be something more added.

Our trip for a Down Town Disney View room at the GC is 2,500. We go in June though. The prices for the rooms all depend on the season, if your going in Value season (lowest price), or holiday which is the busiest.

The OP is going this month- so it is value season. It should be less, unless, like we've all pointed out- it includes park tickets, is a conc. level room, or ??? Shouldnt be $500 this time of year for a basic room.

Let me look this up online to see what it would be like.

to the chart a standard is $280, downtown disney view is $315, Theme park $360, a con. courtyard view however is $500. Theme park con. is $540, I'm not sure the extra cost per person.

You are definentally getting ripped off.

Just wondering if the OP found out what exactly she's getting for her $500/night. :)

no we haven't had a chance to go see the travel agent yet. BUT my husband said he was complaining that it was $500.00 a night for him so he meant in Canadian. :smokin:

We just stayed there this weekend and paid $300 something a night. A week before we went I called to see if by some miracle there were any AP rates or anything and they said the lowest rate they had was $500 something for a standard room. So I believe they do charge that much sometimes. She booked so far in advance though that I don't know why it would be so much. Only thing is that the last couple of days she is there is the beginning of Spring Break. I know my kids get out March 17th for Spring Break here in CA.

Anyway, I felt ripped off there at $300 a night. I've stayed in deluxes at WDW and LOVED them, totally thought it was worth it. This wasn't the same for some reason. Check in is at 3:00pm but our room wasn't ready until 4:00pm and to get it then we had to really complain which isn't our style. We were on a time schedule since it was a Saturday and we had things planned for my son's birthday.

We pre registered at 7am, came back at 3pm and then sat in the lobby for an hour waiting for our room. They ended up upgrading us to a park/downtown Disney room but I didn't know that until we got to the room. It was nice of them to upgrade us but I didn't really want to be on the DTD side because it is SO loud with a band playing right under us. Kept me up until late, late at night. Fantastic view of the fireworks from our balcony though so that was cool. We also had requested bunk beds at every step of the way because it was for my son's birthday and we didn't get them. Also had to ask for a birthday button even though it was noted on the reservation. Rooms seemed smaller than WDW rooms and just didn't seem that magical to us.

Anyway, the way they treated us in the lobby was not what I expected from Disney or anywhere I pay $300 a night actually. I told them that and they didn't seem to care. Just had a tough luck attitude and I can't stand that. We paid for a room that was supposed to be ready at 3pm and it wasn't. A cake was to be delivered at 4pm while we were having dinner but that got all messed up because of the delay. Instead we got to our room just after 4pm and we were trying to hurry and get out of there to dinner before the cake came but it came right as we were walking out so my son saw it. It was supposed to be a surprise to find it in our room when we returned from dinner. We were going to tell him Mickey must have left it. Oh well.

Oh, now I have rambled. Guess I'm still upset since I just got home and it's still fresh. :teeth:

Point is, we were disappointed and feel it wasn't worth the money. We'll never stay there again. It will be offsite at Disneyland from now on. We'll be back at the Yacht Club at WDW in Sept though! Can't wait for that!! :sunny:

Personally, I´d never pay that amount for a DL hotel. You can get great off-site hotels for far less and can either save your money or just decide to spend it on something else during your holiday. According to everything I´ve been able to read on these boards, the DL hotels aren´t all that!

Oh man that sucks!!
Maybe it just is magical for the kids that don't know about money yet. :confused3

I shouldn't have been so negative when you are about to spend a ton of money there. :teeth:

The kids did enjoy it and my son was very happy to be there for his birthday. We all really enjoyed Storyteller's restaurant and the kids liked the pool. Using the entrance to DCA in the morning can't be beat. So there were good things about it that we enjoyed. We didn't think it was worth the money, but it wasn't a horribe experience. :sunny: We just felt like it was missing the magic but lots of people would disagree with me. Hopefully you'll feel it there and come back and tell me how wrong I am! pixiedust:

I find myself agreeing with Freyja. I too would have a hard time paying $500 for a hotel room. I would go up to $350 for a high-end resort (which is what we're doing in Kauai, Hawaii in 2 days), but I draw the line there.

I have visited the DLH when my in-laws were staying there, and we have stayed at the PP. My DH and I didn't find any extra magic or get any extraordinary feedback from our DDs. The DDs were just interested in going to the parks every day. We barely spent time in the room. From that point on, my DH and I always opt to stay off-site when we go to DL/CA. Our upcoming visit on March 16-19 (on our way home from Hawaii), we'll be staying at the Doubletree Anaheim for $52/night, bought from Priceline.com. With the $$$ we saved, we'll be spending it on shopping at those fabulous Premium Outlets, Target stores, and all those other stores we don't have in B.C., Canada, as well as buying souvenirs.

My exception is WDW. There, we always stay on-site, because it makes all the difference. But even there, I've never spent more than $150/night (and we've stayed at the Dolphin, POFQ, and POR).

If you want to and can cancel your reservation, then maybe you should. Is there a penalty? Maybe in order to save money, you'd have to pay a small penalty. I find that TAs in Vancouver sometimes ups the hotel prices. Isn't that how they make their money??? Once we were looking to stay at the J.W. Marriott Cancun. TAs were quoting $450-$632 for a room...but I got it on Priceline for $105 for the same dates. Go figure.

Good luck. I hope you get this resolved and just get to enjoy your trip.

I am continually amazed at what people pay for DL hotels and WDW ones. When I see the "rack rates" I honestly think to myself "they must be getting a great deal -- why would anyone pay $300 or more for a place to sleep".

Sorry, I'm of no help. I'm still annoyed that the best deal I could find within walking distance of DL was $85 a night this summer.

Spring break is peak time so you'll pay top dollar.

Also at holidat season is so high, crazy to me but I'll still do it, I'll never go back to CA again

I would complain like heck at the desk when you get there (as kindly as possible of course) They may be able to upgrade you if a room is available, who knows there may be an opening or there may not be. My other suggestion is: I don't know what its like calling DL for reservations because I've only been to WDW but I would call DL reservations or the Hotel directly, forget your TA, the reservation is in your name right? I don't see why you wouldn't be able deal with the problem directly, you may get more results your self, the TA doesn't really care how magical your trip is. If all else fails have a wonderful time, count your blessings I would die to be able to stay at a deluxe resort at Disney even in a standard room, from the pics the GC look wonderful and doesn't it have its own entrance into DCA, have fun! :wizard:

$500 a night? WOW! We usaully dont spend that much for 4 or 5 nights. :sad2:
