Is Wild Africa Trek worth it?

Thanks. One of my daughters and I really want to do this. We did the Backstage Safari Tour a couple of years ago and think this would be a nice addition to that experience.
It's great. Can't recommend it highly enough.

Agree with all the above - even at full price the Trek is a fantastic experience.

At half price, I would seriously consider it, even in the heat (I've never been in the summer , but I am sure that Disney will provide you with appropriate equipment to help keep you cool).

We told our girls we would do this on our June trip, so I'm checking options. Saw the $50 discount (per person, so $200 savings for us) if you do the afternoon treks (11:45 or later). Hard not to be tempted by that kind of savings! I fully understand the whole "see more animals in the morning than in the afternoon" approach, due to the heat, etc. I guess my question is how that theory plays out on the Wild Africa Trek. We will have done the regular Safari ride at least once (probably more) during the same trip, so we will have seen plenty of animals from a truck. Is the truck tour part of the Trek a lot different than the normal Safari version? Are you getting closer to the animals during the truck part of the Trek? I know there is also the walking part where you're on a bridge over the hippos and crocodiles, etc., but neither of those two groups is usually very active anyway, so I don't see a lot of difference in morning vs. afternoon for that particular part of the Trek...but if the Trek allows you much closer access to other animals, then we'd be more inclined to stick with a morning time, even for the extra cost.

I'm considering this as well, and have to wonder the same thing as PP w/ the animals and mid day heat...We'd be going in October though.

Only worth it with a discount. You can probably get just as close to the animals at your local zoo. Of course, your local zoo probably isn't Animal Kingdom, either.

I dunno. I love DAK and love animals and I wasn't that impressed. It was certainly fun, but for the money, I would have rather done something else. With a discount, though . . . I'd absolutely recommend it.

DH wants to do this, but we balked at the price. Where did you find the 50% off offer if you don't mind me asking?

DW and I did this on our last trip, sort of a anniversary/ birthday trip. We really enjoyed it and WILL do it again. I was 61 on this trip and not too fond of heights, but had a blast !!!! Really enjoyed the tour, but more than that I enjoyed watching DW as she was not aware I had planned it !!!!! Also did the Dolphins in Depth tour and was amased with them, DW wasn't aware of that tour either !!! The time you are on the tour flies by and the Cast Members or fantastic !!!!

I'm intrigued. Does anyone have a great link to info they want to share? Or point me in the right direction else wise?

I would like info about how to find a discount, too. I don't know if they offer discounts in November, but if they do, maybe I could weasel someone into getting me this for a birthday gift, since I may be taking a trip to WDW during my bday week. Relatives always ask me what they can get for gifts, and this would be great. :D Also, how fit do you have to be to do this? I have a lot of weakness in my arms, but I am ok walking.

My fiancé and I just booked this for the 20th as a treat for our disneymoon. I was sceptical at first but if you do your research the price to me seems worth it. She's a long eater though so I'm not sure how much she will like the breakfast offerings considering were the first group out that day.

The lunch offerings were kind of exotic, but everything tasted GREAT !!! Don't forget to eat the orchid if it is offered !!

We are also considering booking the discounted WAT, which is $148.04 (including tax) per person for June and July. I'm thinking the main pluses that make it worth it to me would be the private safari ride, getting close up to some animals, and the photo services.

I did it in January at full price and am doing it again in September with a discount. I thinks it is totally worth the price. The walking part is really cool and informative. I enjoyed the food, too, and they were great about working with my allergies. But the best part to me was the safari ride because we could stop and actually look at animals instead of just driving by. The guides answered questions and told tons of stories. I loved it.
