Is This TRUE About WL Pool???

I don't think anyone has to worry about actually swimming 'with' the ducks. They always hopped out when the humans hit the pools!!! I can't remember one time when I was in the water with the ducks...even the early morning swims.
I have to ask a question for those of you in the know though...my dd had a severe reaction to the water at Ole Man Isle back in '99. Her doctor told us, as did her swim instructor, that she can't swim in overheated chlorinated water..her eyes feel like there are shards of glass in them. So, she always wears goggles now. You have to admit, WDW does heat their pools. But if they aren't using chlorine anymore, why do her eyes still hurt without the goggles?? Just curious. Not to mention the fact that it smells like a Chinese laundry when you walk past the pools the first thing in the morning!!

I am an aquatic director and am responsible for the daily maintence of a heated therapy pool and a 84 degree lap pool. One of the possible causes of your daugters eye irritation could be that the pools PH level is too low (meaning the waters acid level is too high) Our eye's have a natural Ph level somewhere between 7.4 to 7.6. If the pool you are swimming in has a PH level that is too far above or below that range you may get eye irritation. Also the chlorine levels in the warm pool may not be high, but the chloramines ( the difference between the free available chlorine and the already used up chlorine) may be too high, indicating that they need to shock their pool. This WILL cause skin irritations. This is where you sometimes get the Chinese laundry smell from. Hope this helps a little bit.

This has got to be the most humourous thread on this board... Worried about ducks in a pool? Then you probably don't swin in lakes or in the ocean because they are filled with living things that, well, do what living thins do.

The original poster was concerned about bird flu from the ducks in the pools, which cracks me up....in the 70's when I was a kid, people were terrified of swine flu and "Saturday Night Live" did a skit where they all got it and they grew pig's snouts. Your chances of getting bird flu from a duck swimming in heavily chlorinated water are about as good as your chances of winning the Cinderella Suite at the castle during "Year of a Million Dreams"!

who cares about ducks in a pool its not like to poo/eat on it i have gone to a million hotels at wdw and you very rarely see ducks at the hotels and not to be rude you seam a little bit snobish about it

Wow. Holy run on sentence! However, can you tell me more about the *million* hotels at WDW?

(Sorry, I couldn't resist)

Anyway, I agree that it's probably tough to keep ducks out of water, but I can see the point of the OP as well. People who have phobias, comprised immune systems, etc. may have a legitimate reason to support their disdain for ducks in pools, not unjustified snobbery.

I definitely wouldn't swim in the pool if there were ducks in it. I have a huge fear of birds (bad childhood experience) and being near them puts me on edge. I couldn't enjoy swimming with the ducks in there.

I've been to several WDW pools and I've never seen ducks in the pools, though. I think they like the lakes better but occasionally drift into the pools, probably only stay there when pools are empty (early mornings, most likely).

Good luck with your vacation. I'm sure it will be wonderful. :cloud9:

I know how Disney could economically keep ducks out of their pools...alligators!

That could also be a way of reducing pool hopping! :thumbsup2

Along with everyone's duck and snake and fish sightings, we saw an armadillo hanging around the WL pool in May. He was lurking in the bushes right in the middle, where the deep end wraps around to the shallow end.

On another note, yesterday I was swimming in the ocean and was nearly dive bombed by a pelican! :sunny:

You should definately not stay at AKL and stay very far away from Animal Kingdom............they have "gasp" animals in them! :scared1:

I have also heard of snakes slithering into the pools. I would much rather share a pool with a duck than a snake.

I second that emotion!

Snakes  :scared: :faint:

We saw ducks in the WL pool once and it was funny. It was cold outside and the pool was steaming. All the ducks were quite happy in the heated water and were staying away from the lake which was colder at the time.
