I heard somewhere they allow DUCKS to swim in the pool, and that they only use animal friendly bromide, instead of chlorine. If this is true I am appalled! They bill themselves as a deluxe resort and then let wildlife swim in the pool intended for humans?? Please tell me this isn't true!!!

who cares about ducks in a pool its not like to poo/eat on it i have gone to a million hotels at wdw and you very rarely see ducks at the hotels and not to be rude you seam a little bit snobish about it

I'm not sure it is an issue about being a snob, I think that there are health issues to be concerned with. There is a virus out there amongst the bird community called Bird Flu. And while I do understand that we have not had any cases of it reported in the US, I would hate to see the first case come in WDW. I tend to agree with OP, I think that swimming in the pool with ducks is a bit on the gross side as well. When someone is paying for a hotel they have the right to expect that they will swim in a clean and healthy pool.

I'm not sure if they 'allow' this or not... after all, it might be considered pool hopping if they don't have resort key cards...

:rotfl:

In any case... the only ducks I saw at WL were hanging out in the pond outside our patio... and not in the pool.

Hope this eases your mind!

when we stayed at the wl, there were ducks every morning in the pools. at the AKL, the lifeguards were telling children who were getting too close to a mamma duck and her babies who were nested in the bushes right next to the pool to get away from the ducks... these ducks swam in the pool (not when everyone was in the pool). at the GF, the ducks were in the quiet pool when people were in it (they were probably very used to people), and they were hanging around the bar area right next to many people. they were sort of 'guarded' by the cm's (again, telling kids to leave them alone, etc). I just remembered that we had our goggles and were swimming underwater near them, watching their little webbed feet paddle, and it was just the cutest thing. but i have thought about them getting germs in the water, but i guess people can put just as many germs in the pool too (too many parents not putting swim diapers on the babies - i saw on our recent trip... yuk!)

so yes, they are there. just remember how much chemicals disney uses to keep the pools clean (our swimsuits are always eaten away and/or totally faded by the end of our trip by the chemicals). and again, there are many babies without swim diapers in the pools unfortunately.

Relax. The ducks go in the pool at night and the early morning.... in fact, ducks rode out Hurricane Charley in the WL main pool. They were in there all night protected from the wind. The ducks are not hurting anyone and don't hurt the pool water.

Plus, ducks like water... how are you going to stop them from going into water when no one is around?

Relax.

I've seen ducks swimming in every WDW pool we've ever been in. I don't see how they can keep them out, install a huge screen over the pool and enclose it?

The wildlife was there before the resorts were. It's only natural for them to find a body of water and swim in it.

You may want to avoid swimming in lakes and oceans - the fish have to defecate somewhere.

Ducks are usually found in and around lakes and ponds so most of Disney's pools may have a few Ducks at one time or another.

The All Star Resorts do not have a Lake nearby.
I have not seen any ducks in or around the pools at the All Star resorts.

Well, with the exception of Donald Duck -- That duck is always in the pool area at All Star Music!

My gosh...

10-20 years ago, it was completely "NORMAL" to go swimming in lakes, rivers, ect.

Now people freak out when they see ducks in a chemically treated, filtered pool?

Gosh. This is no worse than your average bottle of water. It's treated, filtered, and tossed in plastic.

I agree and re-raise the question on Lakes and the Ocean, Is it not a place to co-exist with nature? all animals that could stand the type of H20,

Not sure if the pool is for ducks and humans or not but ( :rotfl2: my last name means duck in nother lang.)

But if true, it sounds like to me that the makers or designers of the place figured to try something in a way*magical and let some of natures other creatures in the pools to cause a different ambionce(is that spelt right anywho) for effect. and I'm sure there are some with the chlorine for preference for the picky humans:) that we are or have become.

With love and happy travels........... :sunny:

I hate to go here but if you think about the "nasty's" some people have the ducks don't seem so bad.

I have never been lucky enough to see ducks in the pools.

personally i'd be more worried about the bromide in the water :rotfl2:

When we were at POR there were ducks there too and at RPH universal swimming in the pool, when they pooped in the water the CM fished it out with a net!!!

The last time we were at WL there were ducks in the pool every morning. We loved it. And yes, there were ducks at Universal in the pool, too, at Portofino Bay.

We've seem ducks in every resort we stayed in, from moderate to Deluxe. I've also seen far worse in the waters on the Jersey shore. I think the pools at the WL are fine. I think the nasty stuff we humans put in the water is far worse than any thing a duck might bring.
You'll be fine

Every pool in WDW has the ducks in them overnight...you should have seen the quiet pool at the Polynesian at 6 a.m.!! It must have had about 20 ducks in it. However, the CMs cleaned it out every morning. I had no issues swimming in it later in the day.

how often does your car get hit by bird droppings? Don't you think the same thing happens to pools when birds fly over them. I wouldn't worry about a few ducks in a pool.

yes its no big deal
they were in the pool every am on my last trip and it never bothered me
its actually to cool to wake up p out to the patio and see them in the pool
we would also hear the pool cleaners from our room every over night cleaning the pool and hosing down the chairs

Of the ducks in the quiet pool at the Poly in the mornig. Never bothered us to swim in it with them. But us being country folk probably don't know any better. I kept telling my daughter stop filling your water bottle from that cement pond. :rotfl:
