Is This TRUE About WL Pool???

Hmm.. wonder how they are suppose to keep the ducks out... I guess your new wake up call will be the hunter at WL shooting the ducks for you!

Yes, Disney does not use Chlorine but I don't think that's for the ducks safety but for YOURS. The newer chemicals are much better for both the swimmers and the enviornment.

They don't allow ducks in the pool but duck do like to swim in the pool where the river part enters the pool.

For those of you concerned about ducks in the pools....sit back...take a deep breath and think for a minute.

Have your kids ever gone swimming in a lake....how about a pond...or even the ocean no less ??? How about you...did you ever swim in a pond or a lake or the ocean ?? If your answer is no to all of these questions...then you really need to put down the lysol bottle and loosen up a bit.

If instead you answered yes to even just one of these questions, then why would a couple of ducks in the pool cause you any concern ???

The big question is....are theses ducks aware that they cant use the pools in other resorts? ....and no mugs from other resorts either!

Disney policy. :rotfl2:

My kids and I love it when we see ducks in the WL pool. One time there was a mama duck and 7 ducklings that were just swimming around when the pool was crowded. People left them alone and the CM lifeguards made sure people left them alone.

The ducks are harmless and people really go out of their way to leave them alone.

I've seen ducks at WL, SAB, CR, etc. WL I think has the most that I've ever seen, especially early in the morning.

Big deal. They don't poop in the water (unlike some humans) and they certainly try to stay away from the people.

I wouldnt worry too much about the ducks! We saw ducks at the GF quiet pool. When I was young we always had ducks in our pool, so it seemed the same two every year! It never ever hurt us!! And believe me I was little long ago!!

Darn Pool Hopping Ducks. :donald: I bet they have lounge chairs reserved too.

I heard somewhere they allow DUCKS to swim in the pool, and that they only use animal friendly bromide, instead of chlorine.

If bromide is used in the pool, I believe the water will have a bad taste to it. My kids swim in swim meets at the pool at Loyola College in Baltimore. The kids always say the water tastes bad & we've been told that they use bromide in it, instead of chlorine. Maybe a DISer can tell me if this is true.

But anyway, I just tell mine to "swim with their mouths closed". :goodvibes

This thread has been posted many, many, many times. In fact, OP, your post is an almost verbatim copy of one that turned ugly and got locked not too long ago. The search function keeps saying "server too busy" or I'd pull it up for you.

The answers regarding pool hopping ducks are funny. Thank you! For the other, less tolerant among you, (and see, you think *I* am intolerant....well so are you in another way!) no, I HAVEN'T gone swimming in lakes and oceans. I am landlocked as far as oceans go and my vacations are spent at Disney, not the ocean. I have no desire to swim in a lake and there's nothing wrong with that preference. Therefore it makes sense that I would have issues with ducks in a pool that is supposed to be clean and healthy for PEOPLE. Yes, I do think they should do something to keep the ducks out! I remember waaaay back in the mid eighties when the Crystal Palace was always swarming with birds inside....ugh, that was gross, too. So no, I don't want to commune with nature and I was merely wanting to confirm or disprove something that to ME, is a concern. And I agree wholeheartedly about the humans, especially those in diapers, who can leave the pool unsanitary, as well. However, I DO realize I can't expect Disney to keep out the paying guests!! Ducks are another matter....

We found it delightful to find the ducks swimming in the pool early in the morning at GF. My 2dds loved it and this is one of their fond memories of their stay there. I am sure that the chemicals used to clean the pool are more than adequate; and the bird flu virus would never survive in such an environment (it is not airborne)

I love the ducks at the WL. They've been there everytime I have and I've even swam with them in the early AM. My favorite was the mom with her 6 or so babies swimming, appropriately enough, in the kiddie pool.
I'm more leary of the kids who drink mugs full of soda and mysteriously never seem to have to get out of the pool to use the washroom. Hm.....I wonder if the ducks know about that, that may keep them away. ;)

But the ducks are their as paying guests. Their Uncld Donald and Aunt Daisy's are webbing the bill. So Disney cannot make them leave. :rotfl2:

I guess the best solution for you and your family is just not to use the pool. Personally, I'm a nature and animal nut, so the ducks in the pool would not upset me. There really isn't a feasible way to keep the wildlife out of the pool. I do believe that Disney meet all the standards necessary for keeping the pools clean, so it would be safe to swim.

Whether you swim or not, I hope you have a great vacation :sunny:

It does not bother our family at all. But, I can see how some folks would think it is unsanitary.
But as many posters have stated, the pools are chemically treated and checked quite often to kill off any bacteria that is there.....
So, go and swim and have a great time !!
The duck families are happy, heck if I were a duck I'd go live there too !!!

Now in my sarcastic tone:
And don't worry about germs anywhere else around the resort either, there are none from humans on any railings, door knobs, counter tops, bar stools, lounge chairs, tables, chairs, menus, public restrooms, elevator buttons, serving utensils on buffets, the handles on the penny press machines and of course money (paper & coins).......ewwwwww

Seriously, take the worry and stack it on a shelf and just go and enjoy !!!

I was just curious how you expect them to keep the ducks out? I suppose indoor pools would fix the "problem" or huge screens over the pools would suffice as well? Well ... not a screen because then all the birds would perch on it than poo in the pool.

I thought the ducks swimming in the pool were charming and one of the things we talked about the most about our last trip! We went in December and it was on the cool side so the ducks were in the pool ALL DAY I guess because they are heated. Yes, people were in the pool and no one seemed phased by it.

Maybe you could find an off site accomodation with an indoor pool if you are concerned about it. I know any place I have stayed the pools are outside but maybe there is one out there!

By the way ....

This thread QUACKS me up! :lmao:

c'mon guys...she HAS to be pulling our leg. It reads like one of those tongue-incheek trip reports. I think she has a few on the line and is reeling them in. :rotfl2:

Our neighborhood swimming pool has ducks. An interesting fact about ducks is that they don't use the bathroom in the water but rather on land. Maybe that end isn't water-proof?

Some subdivisions put ducks in the pools because they help keep the insect poplulation down, keep the water moving and are more enviromental friendly than the chemicals otherwise used to maintain the same pools.
