I've read that all camera film (exposed or not) should be kept in carry-on luggage and hand-checked as we go through security. However, I'm wondering if this other stuff is ok to put in our checked luggage. I hate lugging a bunch of stuff onto a plane, so I try to keep my carry-on bag down to a medium sized purse.

Here's my list of stuff I hope to check:

Camcorder tapes
Camcorder batteries
Handwarmers (the things you can buy at Walmart--you open the pouch, shake them, and they heat up)

Especially the handwarmers--I'm afraid whatever makes them heat up might be a problem, but I've never claimed to be a chemist. My husband is a chemical engineer, but he'll say not to pack them regardless, just by them there. Do they sell them in Florida though since the weather is pretty warm?

Yep, that stuff in fine in checked luggage.

www.tsa.com has a list of what can and cannot be taken on the plane and what can or cannot be packed in checked luggage.

Gail -- I don't think www.tsa.com is where you wanted to direct wantabebelle to. I also am flying for the first time since the new agency - that website was for a HP Company. I think you meant www.tsa.gov

thanks for the website. i had contacted the airport about this issue but hadn't gotten an answer yet. i have to take scrapbooking supplies with me and had planned to take them in my checked lugguage. my biggest concern was scissors and they are on the list as okay so thanks again!

Opps, thanks for the correction. yes, you are correct, I did mean "gov" not "com". Too used to that "com" thing. :)
