Is this something you would do, or not?

On another forum I visit we have one guy who will tell people NOTHING at all about himself, but he is very opinionated, sometimes harshly so..... so some folks tried to google him.... no luck.

So this led to somone else talking about what YOU CAN learn on google if you work at it ( or on other parts of the net )... This guy had a new neighbor, and for whatever reason, I guess, he didn't trust the new neighbor. So, he decided to research the guy. This is what he says he found:

1. The guy is a CPA
2. The guy's salary..... makes $125K a year or about
3. Where the guy moved from
4. What his last house sold for
5. Police records ( the guy had none )
6. That the guy is divorced

I'm sorry, but I don't think I could or would do that to anybody unless I had real, tangible, reasons to do it. I guess all of this is public information, but it seems "wrong" to me.

Sounds like someone with too much time on their hands!! Yes, I have sorta tried to find people before. Not to that extent though. Was trying to verify stuff about someone cause I didn't think they were being truthful. From what I learned they weren't. But I only looked when I was bored and had nothing better to do. So my search took a really l---o---n---g time!!

Uhhh, no.

Unless someone was trying to harm either me or my family, I really don't much care about anyone else's business.

We have a family member who is in real estate. She is forever finding out what people paid for their houses, how money they make, what their assets are, etc. and then telling everyone about it. She wonders why no one in the family will send any business her way.

I don't agree with the reasons that this someone looked up their neighbor, but in many cases I think gathering public information on another person is a perfectly good idea. I've posted about it here before so I won't go into detail, but if I had googled my ex-husband before getting married, I would have saved myself and my daughters a lot of heartache and legal battles.

How on earth can you find out how much someone makes???? That absolutely floors me!!

Well, before moving into our neighborhood I did research on people living on our street. I did that more for safety reasons, though.

I did find out what people's houses are valued at, who got a speeding ticket or what illegal activity they were charged with, and stuff like that, but I was searching for pedophiles and such. Of course, even with that info it is not absolute because those who plea bargain or for whatever reason there are people who still aren't caught or are on the books.

You can find a lot using online sources so it is worrisome. We really don't have much privacy if you think about it...

I googled my DS's name, and wish I hadn't!!

I used the net to find info on my biological father whom I never knew.

I found out his SS#, DOB, date of death, marriages, divorces, children and the last address he resided. I learned quite a lot of crazy stuff which I won't get into here.

I have googled myself, DH , parents, sister etc. Just to see what it has about us. I tried to google the women who my brother in law was having an affair with. We were trying to get info about her. I wouldnt just do it to be nosy about my neighbors.

I friend of mine lent me access to their computer program that show how much houses were bought for. He's actually not in real estate, so I don't know how he got access.........:confused3 Anyway, I did look our close neighbors houses up when I was thinking of listing our house by owner to get some comparisons. I don't think that's too "shady", since I could have gotten that info anyway had I gone though a realtor...........

HAHAHAH Papa I've already done it for you!! ;)

Myst

I don't think it's as easy to get information on people here in the UK. You can access the electoral roll and also get birth/marriage/death certificates all of which you have to pay for, I don't think we would be able to get someone's salary details though.
