I have had trouble sleeping for almost 3 months now. I have trouble falling asleep and when I do I wake up every hour or 2. I'll toss and turn for a while then doze off again for a bit. I'm not up for hours on end but I don't sleep more than 2 hours at a time, so I wasn't sure if that qualified as insomnia. What can I do?

It's getting to the point were I am having trouble getting through the day. I have actually nodded off while doing paperwork. I can't think straight and have trouble remembering things. It's really starting to affect me and I'm not sure what to do. I don't want to take medication but maybe a visit to the doctor's is the right thing. Until then does anyone have any advice on how to get a decent nights sleep? The bags under my eyes actually make me look like I have been punched and I'm just sooooooo tired.

Sounds like insomnia to me! Had it once - worst time of my life! I would go to the doctor, just to be sure.

Recommendations:

Cut out caffeine (it DOES have an effect, even on people who think it doesn't)
Keep a schedule. Bed at the same time, wake at the same time.
Do some exercise (first thing in morning is best, but finish at least 3 hours before bedtime. You would not believe how much it helps.
Drink lots of water.

The best thing that worked for my insomnia was trying to read War and Peace. It is so boring, it helped me forget whatever was on my mind and helped me get my Zs.

Good luck! :)

It could be insomnia and it could be depression starting. What's happening in your life? See your doctor and discuss the possible causes and remedies. Maybe you can take some Immovane or prescription drug to get some sleep. Not that you take it forever, but just when you need it. You'll relax better when hitting the sheets if you know you've got some back-up to help you sleep.

It sounds like insomnia. It would be a good idea to see your Dr. There are health conditions that could cause this and you want to rule them out. Hyperthyroid could cause this. Since its ongoing it isnt likely to just resolve itself.

Avoid large meals late in the day, alcohol, caffeine. Exercise is good early in the day. Avoid using your bed for anything but sleep. (No reading) Go to bed when you are tired.

I was headed toward insomnia for about two weeks straight, but luckily it ended on its own.
