Is this acceptable or considered cutting in line?

You are all saying you have to wait for the next empty car anyway... that just IS NOT true! The OP uses the example of Pooh's ride... but MANY, MANY other rides are not car based.... or even if they are ~ mom and child get in front of car A leaving row 2 empty ~ my daughter and I can ride in row 2 rather than wait for car B moving everyone through the line faster.

I just don't get what part of you go wait in line and I will find you later people think is okay. When you go to the mall at Christmas time and the parking lot is full do you drop someone off and have them walk the parking lot looking for an empty space and then stand in it till you get there??

To those of you who use a FP after expiration.... what do you think they put an expiration time on there for???? It is to get a certain number of people back during a certain window of time so that it doesn't interupt the standby line to heftily ~ while still giving people a perk. If you come back beyond your time you throw that all off.

I am so totally confused as to how people don't understand that???? A rule is a rule is a rule. My three year old understands all this ~ why can't a bunch of adults??

Line cutting is wrong. Period. End of story.

Now let's debate the "When are you in line for the bus" thing for another 11 pages.

Weeelll, if you want to get technical.. there is no line cutting rule in WDW. It's mostly a courtesy. That's why you won't see many CM's ushering people to the back of the line. There is no golden scroll of line laws. We are just expected to show courtesy, and I'd glady show my courtesy by letting a wayward daddy rejoin with his family.

Wow! My three year old understands rules too, but I also hope someday he will understand kindness and tolerance as well. I like to think that allowing a mom to leave the line and take a child to the restroom, or giving someone the benefit of the doubt and smiling instead of giving the stink eye when they join the line late falls into the latter category.

I consider it trying to reserve two spots at the same time. The mom and child are hurrying over to one ride to save a spot in line while the dad goes to a different place to get a fast pass where they can hop on the ride later with little to no wait. I think it would be rude to use this practice. It's like trying to kill two birds with one stone.

I would be understanding about the bathroom break, but I would be irritated about someone doing this.

In this one specific example...The OP has a family of 4...so, yes, she and he two children would still take up 2 rows. Allowing the father to catch up fills the empty seat in row 2 - no harm done.

I haven't read all 11 pages of responses of this thread, but I'll summarize it for anyone who just likes to start on the later pages. . .

OP is newer DIS member, who asks innocent question if it's ok for FP fetcher to catch up to rest of party in line.

Mixed bag of responses, any where from "no, it' cutting" to "I"ll let anyone in to meet their family".

One person responds "I"ll let one person, but not a group"

Now it starts to deteriorate.

Someone else chimes in "well, if my toddler has to go potty. . ." (even though this was never OP's question.

Someone else responds that people should take care of business before getting in lines.

Another person calls that person a childless, uncaring monster.

Robo posts map of parks with fastest paths to each bathroom from any queue area.

Someone else says something about Brazillian Tour Groups cutting in line at Stitch's Great Escape.

*I'm actually surprised we don't get more mentions of the beatdown that occured at Mad Hatter's Tea Party.

Someone asks if they can park at Poly to use the restrooms in MK.

I usually pipe up to ask if there is a bus from ASMu to "Walt Disney World" park.

Thread moved to "Transportation" forum, because, well, it needs the traffic.

Thread dies a cold, lonely death, only to be re-awakened 6 months later by OP giving an update on their recent visit, in which they had their FP retriever get run down by someone on an ECV during Spectromagic.

Everyone starts talking about MVMCP.

:lmao:
And with that, it's time for me to go load luggage in the car, and get ready to go wait in some lines!
You'll get no stink from me stragglers!!! Just a smile and a "aren't we lucky to be in this line" wink!!!

Yes I am wrong for teaching my three year old to not rationalize the rules so they can be bent to suit her current need.

Besides which... OP asked for opinions ~ people have opinions and they won't always be the same.

I am saying I WOULDN'T do it. I am not saying I would ever say anything to someone who doesn't. Rule breakers live in their own world anyway and could care less what is right or wrong ~ why bother even debating??

Leggy, Don't even give it a second thought! When you come to the DIS boards you need to realize one thing, opinions here are the minority. You need to take the boards with a grain of salt. Everyone here thinks "their" way is the right way regardless if it makes sense or not. So like you said just go, soak in the magic, and enjoy your new husband!

So what you are saying is that everyone here who has the opposite opinion of you does not make sense and is wrong?

This arguement is getting pretty redundant...
Bottom line is that unless Disney cracks down hard, which is highly unlikely, people will continue to hold a place in line for family members.. Either we accept it, deal with it, and not let it ruin our vacation, or be miserable and fussy the whole vacation... Personally, I'd much rather enjoy my vacation instead of focusing on the actions of others...

Relax and have fun...it's supposed to be a VACATION

Actually as a former grocery store clerk, it probably takes less than 1 second for me to scan an additional item, and because in my example the clerk is still ringing up the grocery's when said husband returns, the people behind me would have to wait a whopping 1 second longer than they would have for that coffee to be scanned.( I never said anything about the clerk holding the line for that one item, which is really different in my mind) So I guess if you were in the back of the line, and 60 people ahead of you added one item in the middle of their order, you might have to wait 1 minute longer (but personally if I was behind 60 people in a grocery store, I would go get Chick Fil-A instead)
The point is that you have to wait anyways, it doesn't matter if 1 or 100 individual families do it, because on rides like Dumbo it is one family per ride vehicle. If there were 100 parties of 1 or 100 parties of 2 in front of you, you would still have to wait until the 101 car to ride.

What stops one item from becoming 2? 3? 10? the 60 seconds in your example becomes 10 minutes. Where do you draw the line? What about abusers who show up at the last minute with 100 items? You need to set a policy.

I understand your dumbo comment, but what if 4 people were holding the line or another 4 people? It is another car- you wait longer.

There are too many loopholes to abues if there is no policy. I can certainly excuse the honest mistakes, or the guy here and there catching up with his family, but if I were a cm, I would enforce this rule so what's innocent now won't be abused later.

WOW! How many fingers am I holding up! You're good!

NOOOOOOO! My opinion is totally redundant just as yours! in the end it really won't matter!

Use your better judgement :goodvibes

it's usually a mixed bag around here a lot think its totally unacceptable others don't really care. I think that its pretty tacky, but that's just me.

I think it's tacky too. Cutting is cutting, no matter what the reason. I find it so sad how many people are oblivious of others around them. It's important to have a magical time while you're there, but not at the expense of other people.

It is to get a certain number of people back during a certain window of time so that it doesn't interupt the standby line to heftily ~ while still giving people a perk. If you come back beyond your time you throw that all off.

Again, after speaking with a cast member and being encouraged by a cast member to use my fastpass (that was given to me by a cast member), they are more concerned with people trying to get in before the window opens.

With that said, the only time I ever used an FP after expiration was when the cast member gave it to me and the attendant said it was OK.

I think everyone here would show the same courtesy. What's your point?

Some just happen to think that abusers of this courtesy rule should not be allowed to get away with it.

I have no problem with ONE person joining you in line, but it's when people hold the line for another family, or 3 or 4 family members, or whatever, that I have a problem with.

But in answer to your question, I think it's OK, and I'd let your hubby through!:goodvibes

Doesn't bother me at all! :goodvibes I'm just not worried about things like that!
:hippie:
Here! Here! Life's too short to sweat the small stuff.

Besides your in Disney for goodness sake. Lighten up.
:worship::worship:
good you can take his spot on the same car as his family with crying kids because a stranger is sharing their car and daddy's not.

You know you wouldn't take the same car you'd wait for the next one anyway.

Thanks for bringing that one up! SO TRUE!!!!:goodvibes
