Is this a PARADE or a "Freak Show" of odd talent?

I only caught the end of the parade - maybe the last 15 to 20 minutes and wasn't so upset that I missed most of it. I hate hate HATE Amrican Idol - I can't wait for that show to finally burn itself out so I just rolled my eyes when that Fantasia came on. First - they needed a better camera angle. . . with that strapless dress she had, half the shots looked like she was naked. . . and then I glanced up and noticed it was so low you could see the stretch marks on her breasts! Cover up! This is Disney!

::yes:: I agree.

I like AI, but I think it is time to retire. Maybe this one more season and then be over.

I think the only great artists that have come from it are Clay and Fantasia. Ruben and Kelly are good, but all of their songs sounds the same - especially Ruben. I liked Justin, but he also went nowhere. Uugghh!!

Actually, Kelly Clarkson's new album shows real promise -- shows that she's more than just a former AI winner -- and shows that AI can product some very high-caliber talent. That makes sense: There is tons of high-caliber talent that never get anywhere because they never get any exposure.

I think AI has about two or three more good years, at least.

Yep, the Christmas parade is one big advertisement for Disney, but I still enjoy watching it just to see WDW. I loved the parade parts, the sneak peek of EE, the Lion King part of the parade, ect....The Disney Channel stars didn't bother me, my niece loves Raven and the Cheetah girls, I can see having them on, but I could have DEFINITELY have lived without the TERRIBLE lip syncing girl at the end in the bad pink dress, can't remember her name, I think they said she said she was a Latin sensation? Whoever she was, she was AWFUL! Almost as bad as Mariah Carey last year. The Beauty and the Beast/Be Our Guest scene was fun, could have done without the lame Star Jones piece AND the weird thing with the President and First Lady. Could have they been any stiffer or less natural? I thought maybe they were animatronic figures for a second! :rotfl:

What WaltD4Me said! ::yes:: I totally agree.

I liked most of the parade. I didn't like the Disney Channel stars singing, but they probably put them in there for the younger kids who watch them. And I'd wish they'd let the preformers actually sing. Or atleast have them practice thier lip -syncing more. It's awful and embarressing just to watch them "sing" along with thier songs. Thier mouth is open during a quieter part.

I enjoyed seeing all the other Disney parks around the world. And the preview for EE was great!!

Overall, I enjoyed the parade. ::MickeyMo

sorry I cant recall your name but who said about the president and his wife-

this year I just paused his whole speech--I tape every Disney show so this way I saved tape and I dont have to FF when I need my Dis fix and watch the parade again--

by the way what happened in the first 20 minutes--I thought it came on at 10 but it was actually 9 and I didnt get up until 915

thanks

I agree with you. I think AI can go strong for at least a few more seasons.
Kelly and Fantasia had a great year it seems. Both were nominated for a Grammy which is the Academy Award of music. And Kelly's album rivaled Mariah Carey's comeback album. That's pretty impressive!

I guess it is all about a matter of taste and opinion. :)

This certainly was a two hour commerical. I did like seeing parts of it. My son was marching with the Coast Guard so I got a quick glance of him. IMHO, Vanessa Williams was the worst. Her dress and performance seemed inappropriate for the number. :confused3

Watching did increase my excitment for leaving in six days! :hourglass

I do believe the WDW parade show is a long promotion for the resort.

As for the show itself, my favorite part was the Be Our Guest number.....I just about cried with happiness when I watched John O'Hurley dance with Belle. princess:

I must have missed Julie Andrews' apperance....I know she's the ambassador for DL's 50th so she must have been on during one of the DL segments.

As for the singers.....Aly and AJ and the Cheetah Girls are cute, but their material was'nt much. I agree that Vanessa's performance was'nt good. Neither was Paulina Rubio's. I did like the Brian Setzer Orchestra's number as well as Diana Krall's spot. I think Diana was the only real singer on the show. I really like her.

I missed it. I understood that Hayden Christensen was supposed to be a part as well. What did he do? Did he bring his light sabre?
Now that you mention it, I watched the whole thing, and don't remember seeing him at all, but do recall he was listed as going to appear. I remember thinking they'd probably have him connected to Star Tours somehow? Maybe he was a no-show in the end? Can anyone point out where/if he appeared? (Editing to say: I just read another post above, and I didn't see the Brian Setzer Orchestra, either. I taped the 3:05-5:00 a.m. show on Channel 5 in Boston, so maybe they edited it differently?)

[Putting my flame suit on...] I have to say, though, that as much as I love Disney (and, like I said, watched the entire thing), broadcasting that show under the guise of a "the Christmas parade" is pathetic. Now if they just broadcast, from end-to-end, the Main Street Christmas parade, that would be more appropriate. What does Star Jones touring a Grand Villa or Raven showing Expedition Everest have to do with the holiday? I guess it's the best use of Disney's air time, but after awhile it annoys me. I watch my vacation planning DVD to see the rest -- when I tune into the parade, I just want to see the parade! [Removing suit...]

ITA! She sang one of the very few traditional Christmas carols during the entire show, and she dressed and walked around like it was a cabaret!

On the other hand, I was disappointed in Mercy Me's appearance. They did a good job with the song they sang (Jingle Bell Rock, if I recall) but they could have done such an awesome job with a traditional carol--the lead singer's voice is perfect for ballads. Frankly, Vanessa Williams and Mercy Me should have switched numbers and it would have been much better.

In regards to other posts about the Disney Channel stars--I personally would rather they cut them out than have to endure the pitiful lipsynching as well. But if you had seen my four children jumping up and down while watching these pitiful performances, you'd know exactly why Disney included them.

Taste is always a matter of opinion. What one person considers bad taste, and other will consider good taste, and vice versa. There is no absolute truth with regard to this sort of thing, but rather everything is subjective.

I would think that would be more something for Pay-Per-View, like a rock concert event, or something equally special.

Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion, and mine is that I really liked the show. Saying you only want to see the parade makes me wonder, how long is the actual parade, 30 minutes maybe? They have to add other things to fill out the 2 hour time slot. I am a person who can never get enough of park, ride, resort, and any other previews I can get. Have no feelings one way or another on all of the singers and their apparrel, just part of the show to me. I will watch my tape over and over for the park segments, not the parade, but that's just me. :earsboy:

We TIVOed last years parade and watched all year long. This year's parade was much better and I thought very well done! Even if it is a big advertisement, I enjoy watching anything Disney. And I believe that all of the TV specials have really up the parks attendence! We are going back next week, which was a direct result of watching the Food Network's Holidays in WDW.

Everyone has their own opinion but, compared to last years parade, It was wonderful IMO!!

I agree about poor choices. What exactly is "Star" Jones a star of? I know she has a day-time show, but what else? And Raven? Please. She is looking like she is putting on pounds to do the Star Jones life-story movie. My guess is that her 15 minutes is just about up.

Geez, thats a little harsh. Poor Raven. She has a lot of talent and her show is pretty good. The sweetpea loves it. And yes, she is a bit on the heavier side compared to other girls her age, but it looks like ever since she hit puberty she has had a weight issue. It is refreshing to see someone her age not starving herself trying to fit into someones elses mold of what she should look like. And she has even started a clothing line for girls needing some extra room in their clothes.

I thought it was good of Disney to put Raven and some of the other stars from the Disney Channel on. It only helps to draw in more people IMO. A lot of the viewers see those shows daily so it would only help to draw a bigger audience to the showing of the parade by having them their. Granted, not all of them are that great, but I think Raven is a true talent and far from the end of her so called "15 minutes".

What an absolutely rude comment to make about Raven.

You folks are complaining about the lack of originality and lip syncing. And here's a talented, young woman who isn't afraid to BE HERSELF! And what do some here do...decide to make fat jokes.

I do not know her show that well or her career. But when a performer today has the guts to be themselves and not the size 2 the world wants (and apparently..members here expect), I say more power to her!

It's a shame in world such as Disney where all kinds of people are embraced, we have a few who still have to judge others by their weight.

I so agree! My oldest enjoys her show and I think it is a positive thing for girls to see someone of a normal size (not anorexic) be successful.
