Is this a cheap way to get around the parking rules at the Contemporary?

Keeping your car valet parked at the CR and other MK Monorail Resorts after a meal

  • Yes it's wrong because people use it as a cheap way to get around the rules

  • No it's ok because the Cast Member said I could

  • I don't care because whenever I eat at the MK Resorts I park at the TTC

and I believe that the OP may not realize that a large portion of WDW customers are locals and business guests. She may be thinking of tourists as she is one herself, but locals and conventions bring in significant revenue for WDW.

How can someone attending a convention and valet parking be expected to move their car every three hours? I have had business many many many (did I say many?) times at WDW over the years; I use valet quite a bit. I would certainly not move my car. Nor have I at the hundreds of valet lots I have used around the world.

I think CR Fan shouldn't have used the word "cheap", I don't think it explains what he is getting at. I think "rude, ignorant, and selfish" is more appropriate.

Do I have a problem with someone eating dinner at CR and then walking over to the MK for an hour or two to shop or watch the fireworks? No, not really, as long as they stay in the 3-hour limit (REGARDLESS if they paid for valet or self-parked).

However, I think people who park at CR for say breakfast at CM, and then spend the enitre day at MK. Yes, those people are rude and selfish and should have their car towed away.
Your right that I should have used another word other then cheap so that was a mistake on my part.

I am also going to say again I still think it's wrong to go to the Magic Kingdom even if your car is valet parked because it goes against the rule of the Contemporary not being a parking lot for the Magic Kingdom. When WDW makes the statement that the Resorts are not for parking to gain access to the parks, it is meant for both the regular lot and the valet lot end of story.

Not to get too far off topic but does anyone know when the resort monorail loop starts running each morning? We have a 7:30 AM ADR for Chef Mickey's during our trip and would like to only have to park the car once at TTC. Otherwise we would need to take the car from CR to TTC and then take the monorail to MK.:surfweb:

15 Days until our first trip "Home" to BWV.

I think it starts running at 7:00 AM. Just incase the Magic Kingdom is having morning EMH that day bring your ADR confirmation number with you to show the Cast Members at the TTC so they can let you threw to the Resort Monorail. If there is no morning EMH that day then you will be fine.

Editing to show I did not see in your signature that your staying at the BWV so then you will have no problems getting threw at the TTC if there is morning EMH because you can just show your KTTW card.

Nope - sorry - it is not the "end of the story" simply because you say so. Disney has a different interest than their guests. Disney wants everyone to be happy and if allowing a guest to use a half empty valet lot (while paying the fee BTW) makes them happy then Disney has the right to do so no matter what sign they have placed at the entrance to their self-parking lot.

As a guest of a certain resort one may want to feel special and Disney tries to make that guest feel that way, but they won't do so at the expense of the happiness of another guest, especially when the wants of the first guest appear unreasonable in that they want to stop a practice that has absolutely no impact on them whats so ever.

I can understand resort guests being unhappy that all of the close parking spaces are taken in the self-park lot and not wanting other guests to park there and go to the parks, but I have yet to understand how a guest valet parking effects anyone but the guest parking and the valet?

The point I am trying to make is this. WDW says the Resort Hotel parking lots are not for parking at the theme parks. In my opinion that also includes the valet parking lot so when some Cast Members let that rule slip it makes WDW look like stupid for saying the Resort parking lots are not for parking to gain access to the theme parks.

Since there is really no way to discern what 'gender' folks are here on the board, unless they have a name in their signature, I wouldn't be so offended that someone made a mistake. I'm sure it wasn't intentional. Perhaps you may want to put a 'name' in so that down the road others don't make this mistake.

Now....Disney says...1. refill mugs are good for this stay, this resort only, 2. no pool hopping, 3. no parking at resorts if not 'staying' there for longer than 3 hrs., etc., etc. Until Disney becomes more proactive in 'enforcing' their rules, people will stretch the rules to fit their particular situation. Just because you don't like it doesn't really matter does it??

If, and when, Disney decides that valet parking is only for those staying at a resort, then the rules will change. It really wouldn't be all that hard to enforce if Disney was upset about park goers parking in their valet lots. You would have to show your resort ID or get a 3 hr. pass...when that 3 hrs was up, the car would be towed. It would actually be very easy to enforce in the valet lots.

As I said before, I've been told by many CMs that the valet lots are for anyone who wants to pay the fee...where they go after they turn the keys/car over to valet is their business.
Nothing you can say is going to change that....Disney does not care. It's the same scenario when people were abusing the children's AP discount on rooms....they changed the parameters, now you can't book a room discount with a child's AP! If it bothers Disney, or they feel that guests are being adversely impacted by others using the valet lots, they they will change the 'rule'..only then. It's Disney's resort, they make, and enforce, their rules.

I still maintain that if you ask 5 different CMs something, you may get 4 different answers!!!! They want their guests to be happy, so will let them do just about anything as long as it does't impact other guests. And yes, that goes for the CMs that responded to my questions also.
Just wanted to show that I have gotten completely different respones to the same question you asked. Oh, and by the way...I have asked the question at the CR before, and gotten the answer that the valet lot is for anyone who wishes to pay to park there, not just those eating/shopping at the CR.

Are you trying to imply that it's percfectly okay to violate a rule as long as it's not enforced? Don't ethics and morality come into play there at all?

Valet parking is not just for Guests of the resort, it's for everybody, same as the self-parking. That is not in contention.

What is in contention is whether the valet lot has the same 3-hour time limit as the self-parking lot. To get into the resorts, you do have to show ID and you do get a 3-hour pass - that happens BEFORE you choose whether to go to the self-parking lot or the valet lot, which to me means that you have a 3-hour limit in either lot.

As I said before, I've been told by many CMs that the valet lots are for anyone who wants to pay the fee...where they go after they turn the keys/car over to valet is their business.

It does seem that Disney does not care if people abuse the fact that there is no enforcement of the 3-hour limit in the valet lots. I don't think that's right, since the limit is enforced in the self-parking lots, but until Disney decides to start enforcing the 3-hour limit in the valet lots, I guess that means you can get away with parking at the resorts all day if you want to avoid the MK lot.

Yes, if you ask 5 different CMs you often get 5 different answers. This does not mean that you can pick which answer you want and leave the rest like an answer buffet; it simply means that the CMs are not informed of the correct answer and are making things up or stating their personal opinion, just like people on the boards here.

Call center CMs still tell people routinely that you can use multiple days of a MYW pass to get into multiple parks on the same day without buying the hopper feature, which is blatantly untrue, but of course folks hear it from a CM and then get embarassed when they try to do it at the parks. The moral of the story: what a CM tells you is not always true.

Oh, and by the way...I have asked the question at the CR before, and gotten the answer that the valet lot is for anyone who wishes to pay to park there, not just those eating/shopping at the CR.
Well each time I asked this question to Cast Members at the Contemporary I asked can you use their valet parking lot for parking at the Magic Kingdom after a meal? Each time they said the valet lot is only to be used while your at the Contemporary and it if you want to visit the Magic Kingdom you have to move your car to the TTC.

This is not always how it happens. We were not stopped at the guard house, simply waved through. This happened a lot since we had another resort's parking pass in our window. Therefore we did not get a 3 hour parking pass and did not have a 3 hour limit when we parked in the valet lot at the Poly.

I think the security guards are more lenient if you are staying at another WDW Resort because they can see the parking pass. However the 3 hour rule still applies even if you are not given the pass. I should also mention if you visit a Resort during a major holiday no matter what you will be given a 3 hour parking pass. For example on December 31, 2005 my family and I visited the Boardwalk. Even though everyone who was not staying there was told to park in the lot behind the Hess station which was across the street, we were still given a 3 hour parking pass which also had the time it expired at. We told them were staying at the Contemporary so why should we get this pass? However they did not care about that. Basically just because they waive you threw sometimes without the 3 hour pass, other times that might not happen.

willcad - very well said

Since when did a stated/posted rule become a suggested guideline unless it's agressively enforced (a waste of man-power; ultimately resulting in higher resort fees).:confused3 Ignorance of a rule is one thing, deliberately disregarding them or touting the practice as a little known perc is another.

*Unless the valet parking @ CR has an overflow lot; i'd think there is the potential for it running out of spots if it becomes an alternate parking lot for MK guests. At the very least, it would take longer to pick up your vehicle. The valets depend on tips to supplement their income, not sure about the rest of you; but we tend to double the tip if they hustle to get the car quickly.

*Don't forget, many disabled people rely on valet too; would be a shame to inconvenience them with a long wait.

*The potential construction of a much larger tower, whether DVC or a re-vamped north bldg, will result in more guest vehicles competing for the allocated parking spaces; both valet & self-park.

Hopefully, this is a self-resolving problem...once the now much more limited parking becomes restrictive (as in upcoming holiday/summer periods); CR Mgmt will have to expend the energy to enforce their rules.

It can also depend on what time of day you are going through the gate. If you are going in the evening, they 'might' be more lenient.

I've gone there in the AM hours and they have always asked why I was visiting CR and have always given us the 3 hour pass. Didn't matter if we were valet parking or self-parking we got the 3 hour pass.

We've also stayed there many times so I like to follow these threads and I have read more than once of cars getting towed at Poly and CR. I am very glad when I hear about Disney enforcing the parking limits. I've had a hard time finding self-parking on several occasions both in the early AM and PM when there is an event at MK.

Actually before the North Garden Wing was torn down it was hard enough trying to park in the North Garden Wing parking lot area since a lot of cars were parked there for the California Grill, Chef Mickey's and the Concourse Steakhouse. Plus there are the other cars of other Contemporary guests staying there. Now since a lot of those spots are closed off it has become a lot harder to park at the Contemporary which we can all agree on if you have been there the past couple of months.

I don't know if this family was staying onsite or offsite but on my families 1st night in WDW last December we were coming back from Downtown Disney around 9:00 PM when this mini van in front of us was told to turn around and leave. Maybe because it was the week before Christmas is why it happened, however there is one example of what you would think is a late time and the security guards would be lenient but they were not. Since my family were staying at the Contemporary during that time I was happy to see them enforcing this rule.

Over Columbus Day week, they partially closed the north lot, had construction equipment onsite for the "rehab";) . In the other section most of the spots were designated for CM parking. Which we discovered when we moved our car over to the lot to be closer to walk back from the MK on our last day @ CR (the sunday after the holiday). Parking lot looked crowded then, can only imagine the holiday mess.

Wonder how the convention trade might factor in too; especially if they get lots of locals driving or offsite attendees w/rental cars.popcorn::

They can either park in the regular lot or the valet lot. My guess would be they would choose the valet lot however I could be wrong.

The guests staying for conventions are in the same situation as regular guests who are not staying for conventions. They could either park in the regular area or valet park. My guess would be more of them valet park however I could be wrong about that.

Another thing I should mention if your staying at the Contemporary and are not able to park in the regular area then you should not be charged the $10.00 + tip for valet parking. As a Contemporary guests you should expect to get a parking spot and I am sure we can all agree about that. If DVC members get free valet parking, then in a situation where a Contemporary guest can not park in the regular lot why should they not get free valet parking?

It depends on how crowed the parking lot is. MK resorts don't always even give out 3 hour parking passes for guests self-parking. Go during the off-season and they don't care. The end of December is busy. I wouldn't think the time of day matters as much as how crowded the resort is.

We don't care what a CM told you. Until Disney decides to tell valet guests parking is limited, and puts that limit on the voucher, valet guests are free to park all day.

Most of us have seen plans for a new tower. I haven't seen any plans for a parking garage. Add new rooms together with the business from the restaurants and conventions and parking might be at a real premium. I wonder if Disney will wind up setting up a remote lot and bus guests. I guess they could just have more guests park in the TTC parking lot but I'm not sure they'll even have enough parking for hotel guests.
