Is there anything structurally wrong with BWV?

Hi all,

You folks are so knowledgeable about everything DVC I figured if there was any truth to this rumor, someone would know.

My friend who goes to WDW frequently remarked that they have always seen major repairs going on at BWV and, while Disney is always repairing and refurbishing on property, the repairs at BWV seem to exceed the norm. Now I am reading they are doing pipe replacement which is a major repair to the structure (I am guessing). Is there anything wrong with this structure or the construction of this property? Have they sustained major damage in the hurricanes?

There was a problem with the siding which was paid for by the manufacturer. All of the Epcot area hotesl had some hurricane damage.

No major structural damage that I know about - never read anywhere that said soeither. Maybe it just seems that way because the original siding was defective in some way and had to be replaced. AFAIK, DIsney and the DVC owners did not pay for the replacement - either the contractor or siding manufacturer did. Anyway, the replacement was a big job and took a long time.

Also, the sales office was placed there and when it moved to SSR, the space needed to be remodeled into villas. Similar thing happened at OKW (except they built whole new buildings in the vacated area).

I don't recall any other major construction projects for the BWV. I don't consider the pipe thing to be major and you always have some rooms under rehab no mattter what resort you talk about. But that's JMHO. YMMV.

Pipe repairs have been going on for some time and I believe this was a flaw from the beginning, possibly the pipe mfg. fault or pipe installers fault.

I don't understand why the renovation of the old sales center is taking a year. Didn't they move out last May? I also don't understand how they got away with selling points for these rooms about 2 years ago.

I am curious about the pipe replacement. How did they learn that there was a problem? Was it a recall of some kind, and the pipes are being replaced before there is any water damage, or has there been water damage to the BWV?

We saw a pipe leaking between the elevators and the pool by the gym in August. There were still repairs going on in that area this past November. That was the only area we saw any leaking.

[SIZE=+0]I bet the faulty pipes are part of the reason why there are ants at BWV (my guess is they're in the walls). Couple that with dirty guests + inadequate housekeeping, and you'll have them in your room too.

Sorry, don't want to scare anyone, so just wanted to add that BWV pest mgmt seems to try to control them, but once or twice a year, I read stories about people coming back unhappy due to an ant infestation. It happened to us in 2003. Hopefully it won't happen to us again.[/SIZE]

We've stayed at BWV 3 times and never saw a problem with ants or other pests (last stay was 11/2004).

We've stayed at BWV at least 8 times and haven't seen any ants or other pests, either. I think any "ant problem" is very isolated and could happen anywhere. I was sorry to read about the experiences of those who encountered them.

IIRC, I read reports of occasional ant problems from other resorts, including both DVC and non-DVC WDW resorts.
