Is there a DENTIST/ORTHODONTIST in the house?

UGh my daughter's top 4 front teeth are loose, but not 'hanging by a thread loose' and she shows me today that the top left beside the front tooth is growing in behind the baby tooth. It is quite a piece back. I am going to call a dentist tommorrow...but anyone out there have this happen? The tooth isn't loose enough for me to pull it for her at all - will the dentist pull it????? I want to be prepared!

My 11yo DD had a couple of permanent teeth that were coming in on top of her baby teeth. They were at an angle and the orthodontist just told her to keep working on them to get them out quick. He said if they didn't come out soon they would think about getting them pulled. She worked on them and they finally did come out and the permanent tooth moved back into the right position.

...the same thing happened with my son. We freaked out when we saw a tooth coming in well behind his not-very-loose tooth. Took him to the dentist, who said it was a pretty common occurence and that the front one would come out when it was ready. It did, and his teeth look just fine (he's now ten.)

Phew thanks!!! I am freaked with her teeth - I had bucked teeth as a kid and parents who could not afford braces. I managed to get them fixed so they didn't buck, but my teeth are far from straight. I always promised myself that my kids will have whatever it takes for straight teeth - then you see this happening...eek!

You've gotten some good advice so far!

The permanent teeth will often come in a little out of place- even before the baby tooth has been lost.

Encourage her to really work on wiggling those teeth. You can help her by getting some teething lotion (Anbesol, etc) from the drug store. Let her put some on a Q-tip and swab the gum tissue around these teeth. It will numb the tissue and allow her to wiggle the teeth more comfortably.

Hopefully. your dentist can check the teeth soon, but she'll be fine. Once the baby teeth come out, the permanent teeth will often move into their proper position.

In some cases, they will need some "extra" help from the orthodontist!
