Is there a 'best' source for popcorn kernels?

I find people here know where to find both the cheapest and best quality everything so I just thought I'd ask. Was surprised to find last night that Wal-Mart only has Orville & Great Value- that's it. My usual grocery store has several varieties but nothing that has really impressed us; the worst of it would have big, chewy pieces get stuck to your molars. I ordered some from the Boy Scouts so if it's good I'll get more but it's pricey.

we usually buy organic kernels and use a popper it tastes sooo good! we wont eat the microwavable stuff too much chemicals

We have a little popcorn shop here. We have a popcorn machine, and we purchase the kernels from them. I know they get their kernals from N Carolina. It is the best popcorn we have tried. My husband won't go back to store bought stuff.

I'm sure everyone who replies to this thread doesn't eat microwave, otherwise, they'd have no reason to buy kernels.

you CAN cook kernels in the microwave... just put them in a paper lunch sack and turn it on. I buy my kernels from the bulk dry goods bin at the local natural foods store. 79 cents a lb. It always pops big and fluffy. I have not had as much luck with the red or blue kernels they sell as 'artisan' varietals.

Yes, I'm sorry, I meant the kind that is sold as microwave popcorn.

I have purchased hull-less popcorn from Amish Mart on the recommendation of my dd's orthodontist because it doesn't have the hulls which are what get stuck in your teeth. It's a bit more expensive, but worth the price. Be aware that you don't get big pieces of popcorn, they are smaller.

Don't need a popcorn popper, just a medium pot and a lid. Add oil (my mom always used Crisco) to lightly cover bottom of pot. Cover, heat, wait a few minutes, then throw in a few kernels, cover, and wait for them to pop. Pot is now ready. Pour in kernels to cover bottom, cover, gently shake pot (put your other hand on lid). When popping slows down to just a few, remove pot from heat and let a few more kernels pop, off the heat. Then pour into big bowl. Add butter and salt to taste. Yum!

I love the Stir Crazy! I use a couple of teaspoons of olive oil and sea salt when I make mine. It's excellent!

We got one last year for Christmas for the family and it's been one of my favorite gifts, brings a whole new fun to family movie night.

I personally like the Great Value yellow popcorn. It pops up big and fluffy.

We buy our kernels from a really small Amish grocery store.
We get 5 lbs for around $3.Pops great.

The best popcorn I have ever had comes from our local food co-op in the bulk section. I think its around $1-$2 pound.

I prefer the Boy Scout kernels. I pop them on the stove with vegetable oil and top it with Earth Balance and some sea salt.. yum! Occasionally I make it plain in a brown paper bag in the microwave. Also I did like "lady finger" popcorn we got from an Amish seller.

We get it at a local Farmer's Market store, they grow it. I like the paper bag microwave because there is no clean up. They also sell microwave popcorn w/o chemicals, it is just plain popcorn.
