Is the WONDER looking WORN?

We went on the Disney Magic 2 years ago and thought it was in quite good shape. I just talked to a friend who went on the Wonder a year ago and thought she was showing her age. Hearing that, in combination with the fact that the Wonder is going to be refurbished in October, makes me worry that she won't look so good for our trip this weekend. Anyone with any comparisons to share (like Barb, maybe)?

We were on the Magic when she was new (1999) and the Wonder last month - the Wonder is still in magnificent condition and is maintained very well. She looked every bit as good as the Magic did 5 years ago. The only thing I noticed on the Wonder was that the deck furniture looked somewhat worn. Other than that, you would never know she was not not right off the line.

We cruised on the Wonder in 2000 and then again last summer. I couldn't tell any difference. It was WONDERful!!!!

I cruised on the magic in feb 2003 and the wonder aug 2003. The wonder sparkled. I think the magic was a little worse for the wear, but she was refurbished in the fall. The wonder was bright and gleaming.

Just got off the Wonder on Sunday and the ship was absolutely magnificent. No wear that my husband and I could see. As a matter of fact, DH tells everyone what great shape the ship is in and how much work the upkeep must be to keep it like that!!!!

I know the Wonder almost as well as I know my own home (heck, I think of it as my vacation home), and it looks great! Sometimes we notice something that looks like it needs to be replaced, and then they are fixed by the next time we sail. The public areas are in great shape...you'll find more signs of wear in the staterooms, but I think that's to be expected. And when I mean wear, I don't mean terrible. I remember when we sailed on Sovereign of the Seas, and all I could think was ugh!!! That ship REALLY showed its age. Everything was faded, and most of the inside walls were yellowed from smoke. It was so icky compared to the Disney ships.

Whenever there is a Secrets show on the travel channel they show all of the maintenance people painting & polishing & all that stuff, I can't imagine they don't do it all the time! That's definately something I love about Disney, that there is a certain quality that you know you're getting, thats why it was ok with me to spend triple the money for DCL when Carnival had the same cruise for a third! I would love to see the ship right before & right after the refirb!!!

We just returned from the Easter Magic cruise and let me tell you the maintenance on the ship was unbelievable. I am a sun worshipper and was out at the pools all the time. The maintenance crew were all over the ship scraping, painting, scubbing deck furniture, painting railing on deck 4 etc.

As Barb stated the only problems encounted were in the staterooms, we had a bad bed spring, saged on one side and the verandar was missing its small table as I found out later.

I saw them washing the side of the ship one early morning just after we docked, very interesting procedure. Maintenance is a big issue and must be kept up with.

Hope this gives you alittle faith in the Disney Magic.

We were on the Wonder the beginning of March..it is definately looking worn. More so than when we were on the Magic last year, right before she went in dry dock.

When the Wonder goes into Dry Dock...what kind of maintenance will be performed? I know the ESPN will be the Stack and adding the coffee shop (I hope they have Chai), but will the ENTIRE ship be worked over? Each stateroom attended to? Each resturant cleaned and each chair washed? Inquiring minds want to know!

WDWCrazzyCunninghams that's a really interesting question. My mind is inquiring also. I want to know also!

(WDWCrazzyCunninghams I sent you a pm a few days ago)

Also, did anyone catch the Discovery Channel last night about the Queen Mary 2? What an interesting program. I really enjoyed watching such a ship being built! What a job!

Just got off the Wonder yesterday and she is absolutely BEAUTIFUL:sunny: . She was constantly being cleaned and washed and well being taken care of. The only thing I saw that I would like to see fixed would be the rugs outside the elevators. They do look like they are worn from all the traffic (and that's being nick picky), but other than that she is perfect.:)

Hey Erin! Dh told me today that I had a PM. He read it the other day, so it doesn't pop back up! I would have never known if he hadn't told me! Shall we join in a chorus of It's a Small World!?

I am going to bump this up. Maybe we can get an answer to see if anyone knows what all will be done to the Wonder this October! She might be a new ship when we go in December!

We just got off the Wonder on 4/29 & all you saw the workers doing was painting this, painting that. So they are working on making the boat nice & shiny!!
