Is SSR going to be too large/overcrowded?

Will the theme pool at SSR be overcrowded when the resort is 100% completed?

I like the fact it is going to be a large resort I hope it is more along the lines of BW with lots going on especially with it being close to DTD we don't care for the quiet resorts.

Just for information: When I was at SSR in December out of curiousity/boredom while watching my daughter swim I read the pool sign. On the sign it stated a maximum occupancy of 100 people.

I voted yes because I believe that SSR will need an additional theme pool and/or possibly restriction on pool hopping. :sad2:

Not being partial to SSR (ha ha), I have to agree that there will not be a problem with the pool area. Given the size of the resort compared to Boardwalk and OKW, as stated above, and given the fact that there are more quiet pools to come, I think it will be just fine. When we were at SSR, we enjoyed the quiet pools as much as the main themed pool...and for the convenience, used it as much, since it was right outside our room. Don't forget the quiet pool that already exists has a gorgeous view of Downtown Disney. It also has some nice relaxing music and beautiful landscaping, making it a nice alternative to the main themed pool. I am sure that the future pools will also have their own charm, as this whole resort is just that--Charming!

Disneycrazed-I normally am not much of a hanging by the pool person, but your description was lovely, and I may need to fit some pool time into my trip!

Hmm...

800+ rooms and a feature pool with...

"...maximum occupancy of 100 people."

I'm not liking the math.

This is really quite disappointing for us personally.

When we were visiting WDW a few years ago we noticed the construction going on across the lake from DD. I asked a guide at one of the booths what they were building and he explained that it was going to be a new luxurious DVC resort. He then made a special point to mention that the pool complex at this resort was going to be elaborate and stunning focal point for the entire complex.

Being big "pool people", we were pretty excited and seriously started to contemplate DVC ownership for the first time.

After seeing the completed pool area I find it hard to believe that quide was talking about High Rock Springs. I know it was probably just a case of an overzealous guide but does anyone know if the SSR main pool complex was ever scaled back at some point in the construction?

If DVD were to give everyone an ultimate resort...You know, on the Monorail with two theme pools, a lazy river, two sit-down restaurants, and whatever else anyone might want, we would just gripe about dues being $20/point.

TJKRAZ,

I haven't seen an updated map of SSR, but where will the four quiet pools be located. Thanks in advance

Search for posts by RoyalCanadian back in January and you should find links to the construction plans on file with the county. There were two pools as part of the initial construction plan, located in Congress Park and The Paddock. The new plans show a group of three buildings on the site of the fairway villas with their own pool, and two buildings to be added just past the guard house at the resort's entrance, also with a quiet pool.

(Incidentally, that's only 17 buildings instead of the 18 DVC announced last spring. If they keep it at that number, SSR will have 782 rooms rather than the 800+ figure that is commonly used.)

This what I do not understand. How can BWI rooms be a 1-1 comparison to SSr villas that have a much higher room capacity than a BWI room????. Which, BTW from our many visits and experiences at BWI---we have always been told -- the room max is 4 adults per room, not 5 per room???

That's not true. The max in a room at BWI, YC, BC, POLY, CR, GF is 5. The only deluxe resorts that have a max of 4 in their standard rooms are WL and AKL. All Disney literature (and the website) as well as any guide book (Birnbaums, unofficial Guide, Foder's, Passporter) all say that 5 is max in these resorts. There are 2 queen beds and a day bed in all Deluxe rooms, except WL and AKL which only have 2 queens. I believe the concierge rooms at AKL sleep 5 also. :flower:

I have been to SSR's theme pool and I do believe it is too small for what the resort will be once finished. We were there at Thanksgiving with only phase I completed and had concerns even then which we expressed to the Guide when we toured the Grand Villa ( we own at BCV and HH) I think one thing that people are not taking into consideration when comparing SSr with some of the Disney hotels, is that the people who will be visiting SSR theoretically will be members who have done the Disney thing over and over. They may be spending less time at the parks and more at the resorts and therefore, the pools. People who are staying in the hotels often don't travel to Disney as much and are doing the parks daily and may not ever even tough the pool or not do so until later in the evening once they have done the parks. It's hard to say for sure but we had our concerns.

I posted a similar opinion earlier and was surprised at how many people actually thought the opposite. It seems clear to me that DVC folks are much more likely to use the resort facilities. Also, BW benefits from having so many activities within walking distance while SSR is pushing the spa where you would expect more people staying close to home.

We were at SSR for 4 days last week. We did walk around the pool area, but did not swim. I much prefer the open feel there to the busy-ness of SAB. That whole area makes me claustrophobic. The pool area seemed more roomy than that of the Poly, WL & CR. Much bigger that the main pool at CBR. We were in the Congress Park area & would use that pool for relaxing in a heart beat. We liked the two slides at the main pool though - even though we don't have little bitty ones anymore. I think having the small slide will take some of the crowding from the larger slide. My dd liked that the arcade was near the pool - I can see lots of older kids popping in there to hang out too.

That's a valid point to consider. But I would submit that the folks who have "done the Disney thing over and over" are NOT people who would occupy the main pool. I can't imagine a whole lot of DVC members bring their 5 and 7 year old to Disney World only to tell them "OK, now we're not going to the theme parks this trip--we're just going to enjoy the resort and pool."

I'm trying not to speak in generalizations because there are always exceptions, but if we're talking about members who just want to enjoy hanging-out at the resort, I would bet those members are mostly adults traveling alone or with other adult companions. If so, they would probably want to be as far from the main pool as possible (note some posts to that effect in this very thread.)

DVC for the masses! At least until they remove the "warehouse look" from the grounds with the old DI buildings.

Never mind the pool area being too small when finished what about Artist Palette..it only has 2 or 3 cash registers and thats for the store and the food. In my own opinion I think Artist Palette is going to be too small when the resort is completed..I was there during hurricane Frances and it was a MAD HOUSE...I can only imagine how busy it will be when the resort is complete.

Don't get me wrong I absolutely love SSR but I hope when it's completed it won't lose it charm.

I'm sad to say.......maybe DVC is growing too fast.........maybe they need to slow down and look at the resort, and not just look at profits! :hourglass
