I would like to ship a package to someone staying at SSR. I thought I remembered reading Disney is no longer allowing this but I couldn't find anything in a search.

Thanks!

half the membership would be very upset. lots of people ship to DVC since they can't take it on the plane these days.

you can ship it.

but UPS and Federal Express ship to WDW.

I am in the process of figuring this out for myself & just started my investigative process. I had read where SOME of the resorts were starting to charge a fee to receive & hold a package so I called SSR 'cuz that's where we're staying next month. They do NOT charge a fee there. Only the convention resorts are doing that. They told me to put the name of the person who's name is on the reservation, our res. confirmation # and our arrival date on the outside of the package. They will hold it at Bell Services.

I anticipate my box to weigh about 35 Lbs and it's 24x20x11. I have priced sending it thru USPS Parcel Post and UPS 2 day ground. UPS is a few dollars cheaper ($24 vs $32), including insurance for up to $100 on the contents and it will be a trackable guaranteed delivery date whereas the P.O. will only estimate 5 days and won't guarantee when it will get there unless you pay like triple that to send it something besides Parcel Post. It was recommended to me here on the DIS not to use the P.O. as it may get hung up in some internal sorting delivery mess too where the UPS delivery will go straight to the resort. I am sold on using UPS to ship my package.

FWIW, even when others were saying that conventions resorts were charging last summer, we were not charged for receipt of our box at Beach Club in June. We were also not charged in November at VWL.

Thanks for the replies. I needed to leave for the post office before anyone posted so I ended up calling SSR. They do allow packages to be shipped.

I asked her specifically about USPS Priority Mail and she said that was fine so hopefully it will go smoothly.

Earlier this year, a company called Ikon took over the business centers at the convention resorts. They are now charging for delivery of items shipped to the convention resorts (Contemporary, Grand Floridian, Beach/Yacht, Boardwalk and Coronado). You can still ship to those resorts but there will be a delivery charge. Shipping to the other resorts is fine--no delivery charge.
I would suggest that you not use the USPS because they won't deliver directly to the resort the way UPS or the others will. Make sure you use the street address of the resort and note your arrival date. if you need the street address, you can find it here. The Disney resorts are under "D."

How does USPS deliver differently than UPS? Won't the P.O. deliver the package with the regular mail?

The USPS does not deliver to individual resorts. It goes to a central WDW mail facility where it rattles around and then will go to each resort along with the rest of their mail. FedEx, UPS, etc. drive right up to the resort--just like a pizza delivery (or your Owner's Locker).
Hope this makes sense.

Thanks John - helpful as always!!

We had a package delivered to us at SSR in Dec 08 from a friend in the US - our chrismas presents!! No charge then, but then I heard all those scary announcements in the rumour mill about being charged....thankfully it doesn't affect us at SSR!!

We use UPS on every trip. Usually ship our parcel about a week prior to check-in. We also have water shipped from Costco a week prior as well.

Thanks so much for the information. I didn't mail it yesterday since I decided to mail to the resort instead of trying to get it to her home in time, so I'll switch to Fed Ex. It's time sensitive so I want to make sure she receives it in time. Thanks!

Make sure to put your name, check in date and confirmation number on the shipping label. We shipped UPS and had no problem going to OKW:thumbsup2

I'm shipping it to someone else, but I did put that info on there. Thanks :)

I ran into a problem trying to ship, though. I was printing a label online at Fedex and it didn't recognize the address for SSR. It wouldn't allow me to print the label. I called their hotline and she said the address wasn't recognized in their system or even USPS.

I tried UPS and it also said the address wasn't recognized, but allowed me to print the label anyway. It said there may be delays in shipping.

I know I had the right address. I called WDW twice and the second time spoke to someone directly at SSR who said they receive packages from Fed Ex, UPS and DHL all of the time, so hopefully the driver will figure it out. I just thought it was very odd.

It may be because the street name change from Community Drive to Disney Vacation Club Way. Or is their official shipping address on Broadway?

Just out of curiosity, how much is the fee for delivery at the convention resorts?
