Is Pizza Healthy?

Hhh,, a deep fried pizza… you may be on to something here…… :rotfl:

I suspect the next big thing at fairs will be deep fried pizzas....goes great with the deep fried Oreos, Snickers, and Twinkies

And kudos to Nancy for her comment about moderation. I still say there are no bad foods, just bad choices ;)

Actually, it's far from being horrible for you provided you make wise choices.

Lay off lots of cheese and fatty meats, boost up the veggies and it's not bad

And I can name a bunch of stuff much worse for you..#1 anything deep fried

Just because there are worse things to eat, doesn't make pizza healthy. I don't know if your familiar with the glycemic index, but the GI of pizza is through the roof, which is very bad. Plus, its loaded with calories, most which are carbs.

Don't get me wrong, I love pizza. It's probably my favorite food. And a slice or 2 every now and then is not a problem. But if you think its healthy, your only kidding yourself.

First of all, nobody's saying it's healthy (I'm thinking the OP started this thread tongue-in-cheek).

Secondly, you're the one who's stated it's "one of the worst" foods you can eat. When in fact, there's so many other foods out there that are so much worse.

Settle down Bob. I'm not trying to start an arguement here. I understand the thread was intended to be funny, but there were people saying that "their version" of pizza is healthy. Which is incorrect.

And it is one of the worst things you could eat.

Tongue in cheek is correct Bob. :)

But really, when I look at my DD eating her favorite meal of Chicken McNuggets and fries - I have to believe my pizza is a LITTLE bit healthier anyway. :teeth:

Mmmmm, pizza.... Excuse me, I have to go order some lunch.

Around here they are called Pizza Turnovers or Panzarottis. Either deep fried or baked.

We can fight about just about anything around here, can't we? :)

ita.

i eat pizza once/week. i have still managed to lose almost 60 pounds. depending on the kind of pizza you are eating, i think it can be a healthy choice. we often make our own and it is healthier calorie/fat/veggie/fiber-wise than a lot of other stuff.

this is sooo untrue, what do you have to back this up? I am a food science major, I will bring back some exact info for you!

like any other foods. It is all in moderation, and how and what is on your pizza. In fact you can go with a wheat/soy crust. you cannot get much healther then that!

Has anyone tried the Boboli thin whole wheat crust? They're actually pretty good! We use those, low fat mozzerella, turkey pepperoni (I know...salty), brocolli and sauce. Everyone loves it, it's easy, and as treat meals go it's fairly healthy. We only make one for our family of four and fill up the rest of the way with salad and raw vegetables/dip.

I can find pages of references stating how horrible pizza is for you. But I don't want to turn this thread into a scientific debate on pizza, since that not what this thread was intended to do.

I was not trying to start and arguement or instigate anything. I love pizza as much as anyone. But some people who have posted on this thread think that they are eating something somewhat healthy, when that couldn't be farther from the truth.

lol, I have a degree in sports nutrition as well. I have been involved in amatuer bodybuilding, both as a competitor and as a trainer for almost 10 years. I have trained many people over the years, and have developed diets and nutrition programs for many athletes. Anything in moderation is not going to kill you. I never said that you shouldn't eat pizza. But to eat it, and think your getting a healthy meal is incorrect.

If you want to get into a pissing contest about our resumes, feel free to pm me. :)

I remember a news show did a study of fast foods and concluded that pizza made properly was one of the best items to order. I think that I'll stick to that opinion. ;)

I always thought pizza covered all the food groups and should definitely be eaten for breakfast! :)

it sounds to me that you are making a lot of assumptions about the kinds of pizza people here are eating. are you saying that there is no such thing as a healthy pizza, no matter how it is made?
