We will be coming off two park days, Monday being departure day I think we will want some down time. I can hit the brewery right there, we can rent a few chairs and spend a couple of hours on the beach.

I don't know if the New York murder rate is a very informative comparison. It's one of the safest major cities in the United States. Baltimore, New Orleans, St Louis and many other North American cities also have a murder rate 8 times higher than New York. Even cities that attract a lot of tourists like Miami, Atlanta, Memphis and Washington DC have about five times the murders as New York (as a percentage of population). You're just as safe in Nassau as you are in most major US cities overall.

That being said, I'm not a huge fan of Nassau. If you decide to stay on the boat you're not missing a lot. But that's because I think it's scruffy and boring, not because it's dangerous.

I can't see your map, but the beach is very close to the port. You would walk right by Pirate Republic Brewery on the way to/from the beach. The brewery is great and seems to draw good crowds. The people that run it are fantastic!
