Hubby just informed me that we are going to Orlando Jan. 9th-11th for a baseball card show and wedding. We will stay on property so that the kids and I can go to the parks during the day Friday and Saturday while he is at the card show and we will all enjoy Epcot at night.

I will be handling a 3 1/2yr old and a 13 month old by myself during the day and am a little bit worried about getting on/off busses, ect. I had heard that Jan. is relatively quiet....I really hope this holds true. It would help tremendously!!

Any info would be greatly appreciated = )

we usually go slightly earlier( like the 6) but it has always been quiet...I am wonderinga little about this year since I was told by aCM that FW is booked solid (????) but had no problem getting pop century ....and the marathon is the 11 so not sure what it will be like..hope it is still quiet as it has been before.

January is usually quite, as long as its not marathon or martin luter king weekend. We go every Janaury and now plan our trip around those dates.

a possible explanation at to why FW may be booked despite the lower crowds and other resorts having plenty of space.....

retirees who are RVers flock to Fla in the winter (thus the term "Snow Birds") and FW gives awesome rates for anyone staying over the winter months for long periods. I have to say that is a future fantasy of DH and I.

We also go to WDW in January. The first time was because of the Christmas vacation times for the kids and, now that both are in college, we get to have a family vacation at the best place at the best time (smallest crowds).

Grand Floridian, here we come!!!:bounce:

that was the cm's explaination too although she was surprised it was totally booked and I know we have never had a problem getting a site before for Jan....however this was during the "Great AP Rates War of '03";) so who knows what was really going on. also a few days later Feb. ( which was supposed to be booked solid at the time I called also) was back to "normal".

With the dates you gave you will be there over the marthon weekend, it's on the 10th. It's mostly very early morning and most likely won't effect much of what you are doing. I'm running it, and know they said you have to be on the bus from your hotel by 4 AM, so by the time I'm sure your up and ready to do anything most of it will be all over.

I thought it was the 11??? not running so you should know but just checking as we will be there also at that time

Opps, my mistake it is the 11th, we needed a room for the 10th so I guess that's why that date was stuck in my head. I'm running the 1/2 marthon, and when you first signed up it was only suppose to be 8,000, but I think there are now 12,000 signed up just for the 1/2 and not sure how many for the whole. But it will be a lot of people that morning.

tailfethrs, Good luck!!
I'm running the full marathon (have done the 1/2 twice). I think the full marathon got up to about 16000 or 17000 runners. They expanded both fields a lot this year!

That said, I don't expect the parks to be too crowded. And to MyBoysMommy...Sat. night "ought to" be quiet, as all the runners have to go to bed early!! We all leave the resorts for the race Sunday morning between 3 and 4 am! But traffic out of there, if y'all are leaving Sunday morning, can get crazy. Of course, if you'll be on property that morning, come out and cheer on the runners!!!

Normally I would say that January is a quiet month in the Orlando parks. But if the last two months are a clue then the attendance is going to be up quite a bit. Until last week the park attendances were well above normal. The marathon is on the 11th not the 10th. They have been asking around in the school boards for help with handing out water through the course.

Good luck to you too. I'm impressed the full 26 miles. And 26,000 people total, that's a lot. Maybe we should just stay up Saturday( NOT) i think I'll be out be 7 the night before I hope I can sleep.

We'll only be in the parks on Friday and Saturday, so we'll miss the marathon.

Good luck to all those running though!!
