Is it worth losing a customer over $5?

ROAD TRIP!!

I'm in! Especially since I realized I live in SE PA and Marseeya lives in SW PA.
I'm ok - I do know how to get home when I go out! :lmao:

I would have told her that her omlette stinks and so does her attitude!!!!

Just a guess, but since it was in an omelette, perhaps the owner/cook didn't think it would be obvious it was bad. Sounds like she was trying to cut cost at her diner's expense.

I have witnessed managers of restaurants doing shady practices to pass off not so edible foods. For example, on our last trip to Florida, we stopped at a Denny's and had breakfast. We were seated close to the counter near the kitchen. The manager was doing the finishing touches to our meal...the toast. I saw the toast come out of the toaster. It was black burnt. He proceded to place the burnt sides down and then brought the plates to us. I quickly flipped the toast over and told him I watched him HIDE the burnt sides by placing them the way he did. Told him it was unacceptable and I would be getting new UNBURNT toast immediately. All he could do was  I would expect this from a regular employee in the kitchen, but the manager? :confused3

We do get out that way once in a while, because DH is from NE PA. :teeth: Although I have to admit that I do try to avoid it as much as possible because of the in-laws. :rolleyes1

Somehow, though, I think a cook who did this would have probably tossed the toast and made it again. Most of the cooks I've known take a lot of pride in their food, even in greasy spoons.

I'm not surprised this happened in a Denny's. I have yet to find a good Denny's. :rolleyes1

quote Marseeya:
"There were these people from NYC who came several years ago and opened a small cafe..."

They're probably Yankees fans too, reason enough not to go back.

But seriously, that's beyond reprehensible. I would never step foot in there again.

There's only one thing to do: meet at Panfan's restaurant and have breakfast. I just mapquested, and it's only 1,309 miles from my house. :)

I'm in and it's only 134 miles--2 hours, 31 minutes according to Mapquest (which means 2 hours with no traffic and my driving :teeth: ).

I would not go back.

DH and I recently tried a new mom-and-pop place for breakfast. The platter he ordered included home fries, which they forgot to give him. The server was busy and by the time DH got her attention and asked for his home fries, he had eaten probably a third of his breakfast. The server insisted he had gotten his home fries because "See? You still have some onions on your plate from the home fries."

DH politely explained that the onions were from his omelet, and stated once again that he did not get the home fries. She brought the plate back to the kitchen window and said "He says he didn't get his home fries." Well, they did give him his side order but the server's skepticism (combined with very so-so food) means we'll never go back.

Although DH and I don't cook much, we're both pretty good cooks and generally can make better food than we would find at most restaurants. We go out to eat recreationally, not because we can't cook. Service is a HUGE part of the experience. It's rare for me to go back to a place with abysmal service.

Yuck! :crazy2:

I wouldn't set foot in that place again no matter how loyal you want to be to local establishments!

I would also put in a call to the health board. If they don't care how old the food is they serve, someone is going to get seriously sick one of these days.

ITA :scared:

bad service + small town = big mistake :hyper2:

Some biz owners just don't get it :confused3
Good for you for standing up for yourself :thumbsup2

Ick! I wouldn't go there again -- mostly because of the attitude.

My husband recently opened a small restaurant, and he and all the employees treat their customers like gold. He loves to talk to the customers and see if they are enjoying everything. I'm sure if anyone had a complaint it would be addressed quickly.
