Is it worth it to add on 25 points?

Hello,

I've had addon-itis since we bought at BCV earlier this year . We currently have 170 points and I want to add on. Is 25 too low? Would that size contract be hard to sell in the future when we want to? Is there a better number to try for? Thanks for your advice!

here is what I have learned from the DIS:

25 is the minimum to add on, 50 for add-on w/finance. The smallest contracts are snapped up on the timeshare store's website, as it allows a new member a inexpensive way to get into DVC.

Is it the right number, that will depend on you vacation pattern.

You would likely sell a 25 point contract at any resort w/in hours of it being listed by a broker, since people are on waitlists to be notified of small contracts.

a 25 point contract will sell very fast if you ever decide to sell it, and you could get a premium price for it.

anything at BCV will be gone within days..... It is at present a hot property and I see no reason for that change....

well maybe if it goes to $150 per point, BWV $125 per point, and everything else $100 a point - then it might have problems - but even in that situation....

more people want the BCV than it has members.

Thank you for your encouragement! I so want to buy another 150 pts but we just don't have that amount of cash lying around. Even so, the 25 points will be tough to pay for, but if it takes awhile to get them, we might have saved the money by then. Maybe I should up it to 50 while my price is still $92...

I need a cure for this addon-itis, but this board certainly isn't it! Every time I read the boards, I just want to buy more points and get on a plane and visit the World. Thanks for fueling my obsession !

We've added on 25 points twice and 50 points twice, we're trying to do it for cash as well.

I always add on in small amounts 25 - 50 at a time. I pay cash and it is easier this way. I say go for it!

Okay! I will stay on the waitlist and hope that I can save the cash before it clears! The nice things are 1) I can always change my mind and 2) I locked in the $92/pt price by waitlisting before July 1. Yahoo !

Absolutely not! We were at EPCOT in March and decided to add points while the kids were in Soarin'. Called Bernard while sitting on the bench near the ride. 25 was the perfect amount to add for us. Adding any amount is perfect! Enjoy!!

One thing to note, if you add-on through Disney and it is the same resort and use year it will not be a separate contract but will instead be added into your point total. If that happens you will not be able to sell it separately later.

We just did 2 add on's to our original BWV contract. One was for more points at BWV, the other was for new points at VWL. All three share the same original UY.

We now have three different contract numbers that share the first seven contract numbers but each end differently. The first master contract ends in .0, the VWL add on ends in .1 and the BWV add on ends in .2.

These three contracts could each be sold separately from what I understand.

We just did 2 add on's to our original BWV contract. One was for more points at BWV, the other was for new points at VWL. All three share the same original UY.

We now have three different contract numbers that share the first seven contract numbers but each end differently. The first master contract ends in .0, the VWL add on ends in .1 and the BWV add on ends in .2.

These three contracts could each be sold separately from what I understand.

That's certainly how I understood it, too. I hope this is how it works!

For all practical purposes with Member Services (for reservations, banking, etc) Your master contract and smaller add-ons are treated as one contract (assuming same resort/use year). When being used by a DVCer, the contracts act as one.

However, legally, they are seperate contracts and can be sold seperately, as the contract owners needs or desires.

Get a usage printout from ME sometime. You'll see as far as usage, it is pretty seemless between contracts, but each is still tracked and treated sepreately.

That's exactly right. We sold a 25-point VWL add-on last year. It was a completely separate contract with a different number than our original contract, even though it was purchased through Disney.

Add-ons cannot get "absorbed" into your original contract anymore than you can "divide" up the original. Doesn't happen.

Thanks for clearing that up.....my understanding had always been that they became one contract. That's good to know.

I suppose you can do that, but 100 point contracts are less than Disney will sell direct, and I think the would also be easier to sell. I would probably go with 2 50's myself.
