is it true?

i have a story for you. we are from north dakota now mind you i have lived here my whole life ,and never seen one my dad also was born ,and raised here anyway he spent the summers on his grandparents farm . they had grain bins that held grain on the farm my dads grandfather told them that for every rat they caught he would pay them a nickel. that was big money back then so they did their job they climbed to the very top of the grain bin and dropped big rocks on the rats they saw running in the bottoms of the bins,

so where is the highest point in disney? and where can i find some big rocks for my trip at the end of may? right now the aligators aren't looking so bad.

Except cats are no match for a full grown rat. You need a Jack Russell Terrier to get rid of rats. A friend worked in a horse barn, and one fall, her JR killed 52 rats. :scared1:

Yeap, we have two JRTs and don't have any rats in our yard, but a neighbor said he sees them all the time in his back yard. :thumbsup2

Okay, WHY do I keep coming back to see what more and more people post??????? It's like a train wreck -- I don't WANT to look, but I keep on looking!!!!!!!!!! I think I keep coming back hoping there will be many, many, many others saying they've never seen any rats...........but that's not the case! :( I seriously have a major fear and I'm not even looking forward to going to Disney now!!! What's wrong with me???? MUST.STOP.READING.THIS.POST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:rotfl:

Have we not taken anything from the movie ratatouille??!??

Rats have feelings too!
They are also good to help you with a Consommé!

Never saw a rat at Disney but I'm sure they are there.

DH really wants to see a gator - I'll have to be on the lookout for those. We just usually see the lizards and squirrels - at AS-Sports in 2008, we saw a fox, an armadillo (on 2 different nights), and a raccoon.

I'm OK with furry creatures - even the leprosy-riddled armadillos - but snakes and spiders are BAD...if I had a snake in my room I would keel over.

We saw several gators at Shades of Green a few years ago.

I'll be on the lookout for the big black boxes when we are there this fall. As long as they don't get in our hotel room, I'm ok with all of the critters.....

Never seen a rat personally, but it could easily happen and doesn't really say anything about Disney's cleanliness or anything like that. Rats are everywhere and in a place twice the size of Manhattan they're gonna be around.

I saw a mouse at the Tomorrowland train station at Disneyland, I think it was on my trip last August. And I saw a gator in the lake at CSR at WDW last October.

And at some point there was a rabbit at WL, and a little girl started chasing it and saying, Look, a mouse! :rotfl:

.
Last fall I did see a rather scary spider hanging out in a huge web of death but, I just kept an eye on him as I passed by and I also have a fear of things with more than 4 legs so, it probably wasn't as bad as I made it out to be... ;)

All Star Music?? We checked on that spider every trip to our room - it was huge! My son has a pic, I'll have to look for it.

Rats at WDW? YES. Rats are (almost) everywhere, and certainly everywhere in the 48 states; it's just a fact of life.

NOTHING gives me the willies more than spiders. I have an irrational arachnophobia.

I crashed my car once due to a spider in my car, no joke. AND I had second degree burns on my arms from the airbag :scared1:

We were at Pop going back to our room at night when a small cat ran in front of us. Unfortunately, we got a close enough look at it to realize it wasn't a cat but the biggest darn rat I have ever seen. People have dogs bigger than that thing.

That's right, the rats didn't carry the plague, the FLEAS did!

Just stopping by to point out that snakes EAT rats & mice, so maybe we should be happy to see them. They help keep the vermin population down.

I'm sure there are a lot of rat and other critters at WDW!

When we were there in January we had my sister and her family along with us. BIL is a "pest control specialist" and deals mainly with hotels and large places. He kept pointing out to us the different traps in different places and what they're used for! There were A LOT in AK!! A LOT! Ick!

I see rats everyday. We have 2 fancy rats as pets. They make much better pets than hampsters.
Although I will agree those really huge ones, just smaller than a cat, can give you a scare when they come jumping out of the bushes.
Actually, rats are very clean animals. They groom themselves all the time, simular to cats. Now where wild rats eat, it is very dirty. Rats are suppose to only eat plants and seeds but who can resist discarded french fries, half eaten ice cream, and thrown away candy. Can't blame them. Blame all the people who waste food and can't pick up after themselves.

Lets just put it this way...this is a true story. I used to live in an apartment building in NY. I used to have a cat. One day, my DH was at work and I was alone with the cat. I was sitting on the couch and my cat brought me a mouse in its mouth. I freaked out and ran into my bedroom and barracaded myself. I called my DH's job and told them to get my DH on the phone quickly. Its a family emergency!

They paged my DH telling him there is an emergency and he got on the phone all panicked and asked what was wrong. I told him there is a mouse in the apartment and the cat had it. He was so mad at me for scaring him but I'm so scared of mice and rats that I told him it was an emergency and he needed to get home and kill that thing. Well, of course he said there was no way he was coming home early because of a tiny little mouse so I literally stayed in the bedroom for the next 3 hours and watched tv until he got home. lol.

Rat Report --

Spotted a rat running along the wall and into the bushes just outside Electric Umbrella at Epcot.

I think this was sometime around 2001/2002. I haven't been back to eat there yet. Just hard to get that out of my head.

I guess after 30+ trips, it was bound to happen. Still ... shocking, but you recover. It really isn't enough to ruin a vacation ... promise.

We have pet rats as well. They are wonderful pets!!! :goodvibes So if I saw a wild one I don't think it would bother me much more than seeing a squirrel or chipmunk. Of course it's kinda gross if they are around food. On the other hand there are several venomous snakes in Florida, if I were to see one, that would really freak me out:scared1:

You're both very lucky to not have a fear of them!!!! I WISH I could tolerate them enough to have one as a pet!!!! So does my DD! She LOVES them! LOL I, on the other hand, have a phobia of them.....so much so that I've considered hypnosys therapy/counseling/you name it, but I live in a small area that doesn't off these services! :( It truly would ruin my trip if I saw one because I'd have a panic attack and then start thinking about where they were EVERY WHERE we went!!!!!

I will do on this trip how I do when we go four-wheeling where there's snakes -- promise myselft NOT to LOOK for any rodents/snakes and pray to God that I don't see any by accident!!!!!!!! :goodvibes

OMG I would rather see 6 rats than 1 roach. I'm only ever going in Jan maybe there are no bugs that time of year. Certainly this past Jan was too cold for roaches, RIGHT :scared1:
