Is it true the ship is blue and not black?

In comparison, here is the MS Disney Magic :

Bottom line: if the Disney hull is a different color than that of the Cunard vessel, the difference is very, very, very subtle. Ergo, we are really splitting hairs here.

And as the first picture shows, all the prior discussion here of there being some supposed "maritime law" that "bans" the use of black for ship hulls is absolute nonsense. All the legendary liners below of the golden era of transalantic travel - the Normandie of the French Line, the Rex of the Italian Line, The Bremen of Norddeutscher Lloyd and the original Cunard Queen Mary had black hullls:

Interesting. If you run Firefox, get the Colorzilla addon, select the eyedropper and move it over the hull of both ships. They're both pretty much the same...in other words, they're both black. No sense in letting reality get in the way of a good (and entertaining) discussion though!

Thus, everyone's right! It's black, blue, dark, bruise, 87/13, 85/15, dark blue, whatever....

how about the white.it seems to have some cream tint to it?



As to the black hulls on the rea locean liners.....that was to hide the rust.......white paint of cruise ships came into its glory to reflect the heat and keep the vessels cooler and in the warmer/calmer seas the paint did a better job of preventing rust.

The new cruise ships use a black (or bluck) color to give thema classy look, a little difference to stand out amongest the other vessels.

If an official source like DCL states that it's BLACK, then black is the correct answer until proven differently. The story about taking a dark blue dress from a girl named Monica and running off to the painters doesn't seem all that believable...even if it is a cute story.

Disney is MAGIC. its what they do.

The hull color is called "Monica Blue" according to the Imagineer who lectured on our cruise. It is a very dark blue that appear black in most light. And Monica was supposedly one of the original "Ink and Paint" women in the Walt era.

We noticed when the painters left a smudge of paint on our porthole window, that the color is definitely deep blue when the light shines through it.
