Is it true the ship is blue and not black?

Wow! that's good Stace. Winner! Winner!

Had a lot of time to study the pier, waiting in that LONG line to board!

If an official source like DCL states that it's BLACK, then black is the correct answer until proven differently. The story about taking a dark blue dress from a girl named Monica and running off to the painters doesn't seem all that believable...even if it is a cute story. ;)

When I took the ship tour we were told the same thing, basically. They were trying to pick a color and a woman's dress pants were pointed out as "IT." The 2 I have been on were definitely blue.

while on the Wonder Monday I was looking at a large swipe of the hull paint on a port hole window - in day light. It is very much blue.

When I cruised last, I took the tour on the ship and they talked all about this. They talked about how the colors of the ship came to be. They wanted to use the three Mickey Colors. Black, Yellow and Red. But they had a few problems with that. All lifeboats have to be orange, so Disney had to fill out lots of forms and fight to prove that yellow was just as noticeable as orange in the water…….they won and now even other cruise lines have yellow lifeboats. It cost Disney a bit of money to get this law changed, but to them it was worth it. As far as the black, no way would they let a black ship sail on the open waters. Then one day a Disney cast member walked into a meeting and had on a very dark blue dress. They right away asked the woman for the dress and they took it to the painters and had that color made. It’s NOT black; it’s a blue, so it was approved. The color of the ship is Monica Blue, named after the woman who was wearing the dress that day.

So the person who said it's BLUE, is correct!
Took the same tour a few years ago and was told the very same story. I believe it to be true.

Wow this is an old one that came back up....LOL

Even on the travel channel specials they say it has a bit of blue added to make it not completely black.

It wasn’t a dress, it was jeans. Yes, Monica Blue is the color. The cast members talk about it every time I cruise.

I just read this before realizing it's a zombie thread, but it was so fun reading about something so mundane :rotfl2:

I miss these days and hope one day soon we can get back to these kinds of discussions :goodvibes

I think that was established a few years back here on this thread.
Aww, he’s new. Don’t make him feel unwelcome. The boards can be so intimidating at first, especially when you need to make a few posts to become established. It’s like walking up to a group of new people you will be working with and someone makes your comment seem worthless. It can be so difficult to figure out this site (even for me after 11ish years, lol)

On page 31 it states that the color is only 87% black and the rest is blue.

When does black become blue? When does yellow become red? How about red become orange?

Now if we are being completely factual here by calling it by the exact color if this came from pants or skirt or dress then it would have been a color with a name already by whoever made that dress. Thats the real question here what is the real name of the color :)

Yes it's an old thread but no one seemed to ask the real question.

Can do. Black stops being black when it fails to absorb light (electromagnetic radiation) in the visible spectrum. It would become blue assuming the appropriate pigment or dye is present to reflect enough for the naked eye to detect the variance in shade.

Just sayin' . . .

So there is not such thing really as black then. Nothing absorbs all light there is always some light rebounding off it.

I would assume there is no such thing as white if it has to reflect everything.

So now that we solved black and white don't exist in anything but theory.....

Well, technically, correct. Black is the absence of reflected light. MIT mad carbon tubes last year that were 99.995% non-relfective. We can't seem to get to 100%. Whereas with white, it is possible to obtain 100% reflectance. Which is amazing as it means the surface is handling ALL of the different wavelengths. There are even some materials that absorb light at one wavelength (especially the ultraviolet) and reflect it at a higher level.
