Is it really that bad?

We going for our 4th trip home in October.

We were originally booked at our home resort (OKW) when we decided that it might be nice to stay at another resort for a change...we chose BCV after doing some reading about it.

In the last couple of weeks I've read one bad experience after another on the boards about BCV and what a mess they are.

Are they really that bad? Did I make a mistake in changing resorts?

Probably not. It seems to go in cycles that bad reports outnumber the good for various resorts. I don't think I'd worry too much about it. Go in with a positive attitude and hope for the best. Chances are it will work out fine.

I stayed there last December. My room was in great condition and I loved it. I have another stay booked for this October.

I don't get it. I've been to WDW several times and have never had a bad experience where I stayed. We were at BCV in February and loved it. I'm there to have fun and don't nit pick, but I really have nothing but good things to say about BCV. The facility, the staff, SAB, and mainly the location! I loved strolling into Epcot from BCV, taking the boat to MGM... what's not to like! Relax and have a great trip... and tell Art hello!

This is my suggestion since I'm one of the ones that posted a not so stellar report about BCV in the last few weeks. If your room is not up to snuff and there is more than one or two housekeeping issues, ask for another room. I wish I would have asked for another room, and not wasted hours of my precious vacation time trying to get housekeeping to clean it correctly, and still having to live with it when they didn't get around to it the whole week. Check it over before you unpack anything. If it's something minor that can be taken care of quickly, call and get it done. It there is more than a couple of housekeeping issues like we had, go back down to the front desk and ask for another room. Tell them that you don't want to waste your vacation time being out of the room while they send someone to properly clean it.Others that were right downthe hall from me posted some great reports about their rooms, so it is obviously hit or miss. I wouldn't spend too much time stewing over it, everything will probably be fine. We just had an unlucky experience this time. Our two trips to WL have been great, and wherever we decide to go next, I'm going to go with a good attitude and hope that I'm not going to get stuck with a "hairball" room again!!  Hope you have a great vacation and enjoy the area, it is a really beautiful resort.

BCV is a great resort. We DVC DIS members are Disney's biggest fans and toughest critics. There is a poll here about bad trips. The poll indicated overwhelmingly positive response.

Go with the expectation of a magical vacation! Just don't expect perfection. And if a bump in the road occurs, I believe you will find Disney first rate about putting things right.

Have fun :)

I'm there to have fun and don't nit pick,

Why is it when something is not right and needs to be corrected it is called nit picking.

What I complained about to management was way out of the nit pick category.

Not everyone's world is always perfect. Disney is not always perfect. And when it isn't, it should be brought to their attention. That's how things get corrected.

And I still like DVC!!

BCV is fantastic, we have never had anything close to a bad experience. Go and have a magical time.::MickeyMo

I'm with you Autumngirl, as I am a bit nervous about our first stay @ BCV as well. In our case, it is also our first DVC stay. I can handle a lot of things -- but a dirty/unkept room is not one of them. I want to be proud of our investment in DVC...not nervous !!! I've got my fingers crossed that staying at the resort during a time that is less crowded might help the situation. By the way, we'll be there at the same time as you. :wave2:

We love BCV. The last time we were there we did have a couple things in the room that needed to be fixed. We placed the call and they were fixed immediately. I think that no matter where you stay in Disney or anywhere else for that matter, you will find things that are not always perfect. We will be there in 2 weeks, and we can't wait. We will be at a Beautiful resort to have a wonderful time. Go and have a great time. You'll love BCV.

We have stayed at BCV in the past and did not experience any problems. Our trip to BCV last month (May 2004) there were several issues which I have addressed directly with DVC. One of the best things about these boards is that you will quickly find out if you have an isolated problem at a particular resort or if it is more widespread. I believe people should report the issues to DVC so that they can make sure the problems are rectified.

Yesterday in the mail, I received a request to complete a survey about our trip. I was very honest about the problems but please note one of the last questions was would we be returning to this resort within the next 5 years and my response was MOST DEFINITELY YES! The next question was why did I respond that way and I stated one bad experience does not mean I will not return and hopefully BCV can learn from our feedback. Annmarie

I am not referring to any of the posts about BCV specifically, but I also feel that a lot of people do get too darn picky. I agree that my vacation time is too important to spend worrying about inspecting my room for problems. I also have seen some situations posted that I know I could not live with either, so some are justified. But I am not a white glove person and that probably makes the difference.

OKW is our home. We love it and always stay there when we get a larger unit, but for quick trips I also Love BCV. I have stayed there many times (2x this year so far), and have never had a problem or benn disappointed. I like the studios with a sofa and a bed so much better than the two bed arrangement when it is just my husband and I. I also like BCV much better than BWV, where I have also stayed several times. I just like the atmosphere better. That is why DVC is so great....it gives us choices.

I think why you hear more about the bad experiences compare to the good is, that the bad one we want to rant and rave over. The good ones we expect. We have stayed at BCV twice and had great experiences. If you look at them as a whole it is not that many. That said, if you have the bad one it is one too many. Check the room out when you get it, if it is not right ask for it to be fixed or another room. Which you do is up to you with what is wrong. DVC members seem to be more particular or pickey because we paid alot of money on vacations for a long time. We expect a very high standard from Disney. We have had very minor things we have found and reported them. We have always had clean and tidy rooms. Our stuff was things like light bulbs burned out kind of thing. We report them and go on our way and they are fixed when we returned. The one thing I noticed is, we bought at VWL and our first stay was at OKW then went to VWL. At OKW they have been dealing with DVC all the time at VWL we were new to them. They had not got into the little things we love and when we stayed at BCV we noticed the same thing. We stayed there shortly after BCV opened. We love hearing "Welcome Home" and the combined resots seem to forget that little thing. So just have a great trip and enjoy. Sorry about the long post.
