Is there a section/bldg that is close to the main pool and yet not too far from say the new pool at Grandstand and DTD??? Our kids are older....16, 13 and 8 so walking some shouldn't be a big issue. Thanks.

A room in the Grandstand, especially in a building near the carriage house, will give you easy access to the main pool, the grandstand pool, Artist's Palette the ferry dock, and the West Side DTD walkway.

And- an added bonus- the rooms there are brand new.

WOW that does sound great. I wonder ...can I call MS and request that section and also request a bldg closes to the Carriage House??? WE arrive on on Aug. 15th...hopefully it wont' be a packed time at SSR.

I don't know if they take building requests, you can always ask, but you definately can consult with the CM at checkin, you can look at a map together and choose a room based on what is available.

Be careful what you ask for..... We stayed in the Grandstands a couple weeks ago. We were in the last room in the last building! Nice view, quiet location, new room, pretty close to the bus stop, not too far from the Grandstand pool (nice pool with a great splash park), BUT super far from the Carriage House, the main pool, and the community hall. My DS got major blisters :sad2: walking to and from our room to the Carriage house.

We rented videos a couple times, and I dreaded the walk to return them!! This distance also limited our use of the main pool and the activities at the community hall.

Would I stay in the Grandstand area again? Only if I was guaranteed a room in the first building! Since location is a request, I think I'll stay with requesting a Springs location.

Having stayed at SSR, I was shocked at how much closer things were than I had been led to believe in reading these boards. The resort is NOT as spread out as people have made it sound. If you don't mind walking, there is nothing that isn't within an 8-10 minute walk of anywhere in the resort. That may be a very long walk for some people, but that is a short walk in my book, especially at Disney where there is a lot of walking anyway.

The last time we were at SSR, we stayed in the Grandstand section (85XX villas). Previously, we had only stayed in the Springs. We were pleasantly surprised to find the Grandstand even more convenient to the CH than the Springs villas we had in the past. Plus, we had a wonderful view of the golf course, the canal beyond, and the tent tops of Cirque du Soleil! :thumbsup2
(And being at the first bus stop to pick up and drop off was an added bonus! :goodvibes )

We stayed in Congress Park in December. Yes, the resort is maybe a bit spread out, but not that much. Not trying to be mean, but for all the people that complain about walking around the complex I wonder how they handle days of walking through the parks. A little extra exercise probably won't kill any of you. :yay:

I think the kinder thing to say would have been A LITTLE EXTRA EXERCISE PROBABLY WON'T KILL ANY OF "US."

Having said that...I don't mind walking....I just walked through Italy for 10 days with my 16 year old daughter and doing Disney for 10 days doesn't come close to what we did......BUT...we are new to DVC and being NEW....we want feedback......we would like to know what other people experienced STAYING WHERE THEY STAYED.....did they think it was a long ways off from the pool......or the Carriage House....IF I HAVE A CHOICE OF WHERE TO STAY.....I would like to hear what others have to say about where they stayed and why they liked it or didn't like it. Glad you liked Congress Park.

You're correct. "Us" would have come off a little better. Sorry about that. I just don't really get the complaints on having to walk somewhere, especially at WDW (unless there are some medical issues). :confused3

Congress Park was good for us. First floor facing the quiet pool. Quick walk over to DTD in the evenings. Short walk the other way to the carriage house and main pool. A little bit of everything. And, we had our 2 yo DD with us. Never had any issues catching buses to/from the parks. :thumbsup2

Yeah I am thinking Congress or Springs would be fine and even Grandstand but we do like to go to DTD.....so maybe Congress...might stand a better chance of getting in there anyway. I like to walk around resorts and explore anyway....

I agree Doctor P. I dont even comment anymore when people say how spread out SSR is. I just feel that people need to decide for themselves. I dont think we walk anymore at SSR to get to the amenities than we do at BCV, BWV, OKW, or AKV.

Dh and I walk around SSR in the mornings and we have to add in the paths around DTD, all around SSR, and OKW to even get close to a 3 mile walk in.

We always request Congress Park. The walk is not an issue to us and we spend the majority of our time between CP and the Community Hall and Main Pool. We always get refillable mugs at SSR because it's so convenient. We dont buy them at BWV or even BCV or OKW.

We dont even mind the rain, all part of being in Florida. At CP we have a great view, a great quiet pool and a 7-10 minute walk in both directions to DTD or Carriage House.

Hey neighbor we also arrive on the 15th! I can't hardly wait.:goodvibes

I had the opposite reaction visiting SSR and OKW. After years of hearing OKW owners complain about the hallway length at BWV, I expected OKW to be far more compact than it was - and SSR was far more spread out than OKW.

After visiting, if I were going to stay at either resort, I'd have a car.

I agree, Doctor P! It's like the "long hallways" at BWV and the "long walk to HH" at OKW. I always wonder how these same folks manage to navigate the parks. I haven't stayed at SSR since all the buildings were up, but I assume there are numerous bus stops that will work as well.

No one has mentioned Carousal yet, so I'll be the first... stayed there in the spring and hated it.... as far away from everything as you can be and is the only area that doesn't even have a quiet pool. :scared1:

Needless to say, I didn't ask to be placed there:rolleyes2 I DO have mobility issues and stated that in my reservation. Didn't make a bit of difference since they swore up an down this was the one and only vacant room on the entire property.... yeah, right. Walking to the CH wasn't an option so I had to rely on the "internal transportation" which is really inadequate for such a large resort.

Anyway, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me... I'm taking no chances on our trip next week. I normally only use an ECV in the parks, but I'm renting one from a company off property so I can have it at the resort and I'm renting a car. :thumbsup2

BTW, I absolutely love SSR and have really enjoyed my stays there in the past. :goodvibes Sad to say, but a request is just that... a request. I'd be happy in Grandstand, Congress Park, Springs or Paddocks.... but at least this time I'm prepared if I get stuck in Carousal again.

We requested Congress Park for our July 29-31 visit, but were not assigned there. A studio was ready at 8:30 am in Grandstand 9301. This is the farthest studio from the elevator and in one of the last two buildings to open. I wonder if we were the first people to use the studio.

At first I thought it was horrible -- away from the bus stop, Grandstand Pool, the laundry, Carriage House etc. Then DH timed our walk to Artist Palette....are you ready?...it was 9 minutes! This was slow moving 50 somethings in July humidity, too.

We enjoyed the quiet pool area as well as High Rock Springs. I don't know if I'd like Carousel, but even in farther away Grandstand buildings it wasn't bad. We'll keep requesting Congress Park, and hopefully we'll get to stay there sometime too.

We stayed in April at SSR for the fist time and I don't remember the name of the building but it was across the bridge to the right, 2nd building right across the street from the firehouse. With a 5 and 2 year old it seemed like forever to get there even with strollers sometimes. But the bus stop was not that far and the littler pool as well. I even took it once to get around the resort. Walking to DD was one thing we will not do again though. That was long. One cool thing was I could watch the buses go buy, and depending on where we were going, I could time when to leave so we didn't have to wait that long for the bus at the stop. :thumbsup2

We prefer to stay in the Congress Park section. We don't find it far to walk to the main pool, Carriage House or the restaurants. We love being near the walking path to Downtown Disney and always walk over and back rather than take a bus over. We love the quiet pool for the Congress Park section and enjoy swimming there or just lounging there at night with all the lights and action of downtown disney right across from us. My kids are 18, 13 and 11 and have never complained about the walk from Congress park to the main pool. Give it a try!
