Is it okay to put family first? (Response to royal family stuff)

I can't imagine having every aspect of my life scrutinized on this level. How awful. Harry has said that the tabloid press in the UK made his life miserable, and I believe him. Imagine being them and having to deal with this.
The problem is that they also use the press to their advantage when it suits them, as Harry’s mother did, as well.

It seems they are doing it now, in fact. People see this as disingenuous.

There was a time where Harry had a great relationship with the press. After a formal press event, he went into a bar to have beer with the press on more than one occasion.
It's a two way street, the press needs the royals and the royals need the press.

No doubt a lot of what is happening is emotionally complex. More and more it seems as if from the family the perspective is one of deeper and deeper confusion, with more and more wariness as Harry seems to have taken them by surprise with change of direction and change of opinion without so much as using a turn signal. That isn't a respectful way to treat people you love -- or the way you handle things with those you've worked with collaboratively for years on projects you claim to be very interested in and supportive of.

As time rolls on more and more of it points to wanting what they want when and how they want it, no matter what -- all the while feeling perfectly entitled to expect to be seen completely favorably and intimating negative things about other people they claim are the problem, including causing all kinds of unflattering speculation about people they claim to love dearly.

Yep!

Case in point to my post above, ie Diana often used the press to her advantage.

The “Revenge Dress“ story. Widely reported/google-able, but chose this particular story for reference to press release.

https://news.amomama.com/150607-princess-dianas-revenge-dress-story-it.html

”In June 1994, Princess Diana appeared in a dress that soon got dubbed the “revenge dress” and shocked the world, here is why.

When Princess Diana arrived at the Serpentine Gallery in London for a party on June 29, 1994, jaws dropped at her off-the-shoulder, figure-hugging black silk dress.

Hardly attire befitting a princess, she got known for her regal and sophisticated but conservative sense of style, up until that night.

Prince Charles and Princess Diana had already been separated for three years at the time, and that very same night, Prince Charles made a shocking confession heard by millions worldwide. He had been unfaithful.

While Prince Charles admitted to his infidelity, Princess Diana stepped out in her sexy form-fitting dress by the Greek designer Christina Stambolian, and with that the birth of the “revenge dress.”

Prince Charles’s confession happened during a documentary meant to put him in a more sympathetic light after his separation from “the people’s princess.” But with the timing of the premiere and Prince Charles’s subtle confession, the film’s intent backfired.

For the party at the Serpentine gallery, Princess Diana had initially planned on wearing a Valentino dress, but her outfit choice reportedly got released to the press ahead of the evening.

Princess Diana decided to switch outfits at the last minute and went with the “daring” Christina Stambolian dress. According to her former stylist, Anna Harvey, Princess Diana wanted to look like “a million dollars” that evening.

Damn, I forgot how amazing she looked in that dress.

The claim is that the Queen asked what Archie wanted for Christmas and they told her a waffle maker. All the better to craft an anecdote involving a Christmas gift from the Queen and tie it to earth mother of the year incarnate whipping up waffles every morning from her own organic mix.

I need to find my eyeballs as they rolled completely out of my head at that point. He can't just say that Archie likes waffles so they thought that would be a cute gift from the Queen? It has to be Meghan's ORGANIC waffle mix...

Based on Worldometers (see below), US cases/deaths are way down. Back in late Nov 2020, our state's daily count was >6000. We are less than 1000 today. I am hoping that it is from vaccines (similar to Israel) and not a temporary decrease in numbers 🙏

Same. Send through the "almost 50 year olds with some issues but who won't go to the doctor for those issues because medical costs are outrageous even with insurance" group....

I sure feel shamed. I never make organic waffles.

Maybe I can get her recipe. Organic eggs, organic flour, organic oil, organic toppings? This could get expensive.

Were I to be on the PR team trying to craft the persona for this couple to (not) launch themselves publicly here's my take on how they could have handled this and come off as relatable humans attempting to parent a toddler.

Number one, quit looking for inspiration from Pinterest. According to my daughters many of the trends that seem to be tied to their image building are straight from Pinterest.

Number two, here is the believable anecdote that an awful lot of people could have related to, even as mere commoners. My grandmother had asked for a good Christmas gift idea for Archie and we suggested a waffle iron because he loves waffles, so she made sure to send him one. First thing Archie says in the morning now is, waffles? He's in some waffle-obsessed phase and Meghan whips up a batch for breakfast every morning. We've heard this is probably the first of many, many phases we can expect with kids, sure hope they're all this tasty, but I might have to hit the gym a bit harder. A lot of parents that have been through toddler phases and their weird eating patterns could relate to this. It's still got a kid eating waffles from his waffle iron that was a gift from the Queen. It did not need the lily gilded with mom's special organic waffle mix. That was only for mom and dad, who don't realize it makes them seem pretentious and phony, and maybe might make listeners start picking at the threads of what they're being told.

Really? What toddler wants a waffle iron? Am I misunderstanding something here? This is practically sublime.

Apropos of the DISBoards, maybe it's a Mickey waffle iron? (tee-hee)
'Course, if it was, that couldn't be admitted on a CBS show, now could it? Musn't advertise the IP of a rival network.

(Also, FWIW, I don't want to suggest that the interview was meant to be anything but classic Corden, which is the modern equivalent of laughing while wiping banana cream pie off your face. Anyone who knows the man at all and agrees to do his show should know that being a good sport about physical comedy and a bit of embarassment comes with the territory.)

When my MIL asked for gift ideas for the kids this past Christmas, some of the things I suggested were bedroom curtains for the 3 year old and a booster seat for the baby. They sure as heck don’t need more toys, nor does anyone need ideas when buying toys for kids that young, if that’s the type of gift they’re looking to give. So, if you’re asking, I assume it’s because you’re looking to give something that is needed or would be of use. If my kid had recently fallen in love with waffles, I would’ve suggested a waffle maker. I didn’t think I was a weirdo, but maybe I am.

FWIW, my thoughts on the organic comment... I don’t adhere to an organic diet but I am vegan and that’s something people will specify when talking about me, presumably because it’s something out of the ordinary that they associate with me, not because they’re attempting to craft an image for me. It wouldn’t be unusual for someone to say “and Tipsy uses it to make vegan waffles.” (My husband wouldn’t say it because he’s also vegan but non-vegan friends and family, sure.) I took Harry’s comment as just that — he’s not on a strictly organic diet whereas Meghan is, and it’s something he associates with her. “Yeah, you know, her and her organic waffle recipe...”

I'd be surprised, if that's the case for most people. I always ask for gift suggestions for my young great nieces & great nephews. That way I don't have to worry about buying something they already have. To each their own, but there's no way I'm buying a baby or toddler curtains or a waffle maker. I want to buy a gift that the child will have fun with not help the parents furnish their home. If the parent asks for curtains or a waffle maker as their gift, I'm happy to buy that for them.
