Is it even possible?!

Thank you all again for your advice. Like I said, he isn't really worried about missing school work because he is a straight A+ student without even trying. He just wants to get the hang of everything before we leave and he is really starting to panic about it. With that said, we ended up deciding that we would move the trip to the first week in December. It ended up costing me $600 to change the flights and I did lose the money that I paid for the party tickets (they would change the date but not refund them which I kind of expected) but to me, going to a new school is hard and developing friendships is even harder and I want him to have the time to feel confident about his place at this new school before I whisk him off on a vacation. The three of us are very excited now to get to experience Disney at Christmas time so it seems to have all worked out. :)

That is being a great mom...you listened to your son, respected his feelings, and now you'll have a trip everyone can enjoy. Well worth $600, I'd say! :thumbsup2

I agree with having him join you later on in the trip or having him fly home before you, he can be there for the weekend and one or two school days. You'd only pay to change his one way flight.

Yay!

And good for you for willing to give up $600 for your son's peace of mind and excitement. Have a great vacation!

I agree 100%. Not only that, but it's experiences like this, where a parent shows this level of respect to their child, that will last with them forever. Good job mom.

Good to hear that you were able to reschedule your trip.
Is it possible for you to donate the party tickets to a charity (e.g. church, school, non-profit, etc.) in your area so they can auction them off to raise funds? That way you would at least get a tax deduction for the cost of the tickets.
