Is it better to rent your points out or to transfer them?

I might have to rent my points for this year since we are not going to be going and could use the money to pay for our Cancun vacation. I have a September use year.... I plan on banking 45 of last years points , so I will have 345 points available. When should I post these points for rental? Is it easier to transfer them to a DVC member and have them pay me for them or to rent them? I'd like to get between 11-12 per point but I'm seeing so many people renting for $10.00, is my price unrealistic?

It is easier to transfer them, because then you don't have to make a reservation. Keep in mind though, technically no money is supposed to change hands when transferring (yet renting to another member is perfectly OK - obvious logical flaw in their policy!). In practice, it seems no one minds, but still I wouldn't mention the price paid when on the phone with Member Services!

Note though that banked or borrowed points cannot be transferred - so those 45 points would need to be rented.

If you are sure you won't use them, post now. $10 seems the going rate, but that depends on the resort. If yours are VWL or BCV, $11 isn't out of the question. $12 would be more for like VWL in December or some such. When you list, state clearly the number that can be transferred (300 of yours it seems), the use year of the points and the resort.

Be prepared for multiple folks just wanting some of your points, though. You might need to break them up to get rid of all of them, and still might get stuck with a few. If you only want someone who will take all, state that.

for your response. Are there other vehicles to advertise your rental other than the Dis boards..... I used to rent from VRBO(Vacation Rentals by Owner) and have had several good experiences renting off of there but I've never seen a rental for DVC on that board.
