Is I-95 a zoo if driving down Spring Break?

We're thinking of driving down to WDW over our spring break (April 8-15). We've driven down many times as my MIL used to live in Florida and we'd drive down just before Christmas and I-95 was a ZOO! Is like that driving down spring break or are spring breaks scattered enough that you wouldn't see a noticeable difference compared to our usual summer drives down to Orlando?

We'd be leaving from the Washington, DC suburbs - I know how to avoid DC traffic and we'd likely be leaving on a Saturday.

We drove down over spring break last year and picked up I-95 at I-26. It was the Sat. before Easter and we drove home the Sat after Easter. On the way down, the traffic got really bad once we passed Jacksonville. It slowed down to 30 mph and was at a standstill at some points. LOTS of traffic accidents, I think due to the high volume of traffic. Now, this was around 1 pm. and I think it would have been better earlier. We got off I-95 and took back roads. On the way home, we got on the road from WDW at 6 am and the traffic was like afternoon traffic. It was quite heavy on the way home so we took back roads (rte 11 and also rte 17 in Ga) for awhile. The backroads were fine and broke up the routine and we didn't have to sit in traffic. It wasn't so bad.

Thanks Corina! I think we'd be driving home Easter weekend so no doubt hitting a good chunk of traffic it sounds like. Perhaps driving home on Easter Sunday might even be less crowded than going before or after...hard to tell!
