Is Expedition Everest just an indoor coaster?

Is it supposed to have any animatronics or special effects like The Mummy at USF or is it just an indoor coaster with props and signs like Rock n Roller Coaster??

From the models and artist renderings I've seen, it looks as if the ride goes inside and out. The ride supposedly brings you face-to-face with a Yeti, which I would assume will be animatronic. I'm sure there will be plenty else to see inside the mountain, but it's anybody's guess right now as to whether this will be an in-the-dark coaster while you're in the mountain.

I really hope it turns out to be a good one, I was pretty disappointed with Mission:Space - the hype just didn't pan out.

But so far, it sounds like it will be pretty good.

It is supposed to be an in the mountain/ out of the mtn like ye olde matterhorn at DL

Hey Ghost,

Why was Mission: Space disappoint for you? What do you mean that the hype didn't pan out?

I'm not trying to speak for the Ghost, but M:S was billed as an unbelievable, ultra realistic, super duper ride. To some,it is,to others it isn't. IMO, due to motion sickness issues, the ride had to be toned down to a point where people that want & can handle the G's are disappointed.

Now, for me personally, I wasn't nearly as disappointed in M:S as I was with the Mummy. We rode Mummy 3 times prior to the grand opening and it's definitely a ride we won't stand in line for.

I agree with you re: Mission Space, but I highly recommend you try The Mummy again. From what I understand, they improved the ride a lot from when you tried it (technical rehearsals) to what it is right now.

My disappointment with M:S was this:

it was being billed as the most UNIQUE attraction ever built. I was shocked when I entered the "pod" that it was yet another simulator ride. It was nothing more than a glorified Star Tours to me.

It would be cool if Disney could develop a ride that doesn't utilize simulators. I think that's why I'm looking forward to Everest. Doesn't sound like any way there could be a simulator involved.;)

When I rode it this past May, the G's were definately upped compared to last Oct. and the ride was incredible. This is in no way a disappointment for us thrill seekers. I rode it three times and rank it my no. 1 favorite at EPCOT.

I also noticed something very interesting - M:S ran with an approx. 30 min. greater wait time compared to Test Track from about 11:00 am and continuing all day. Considering the capacity of these two attractions, I was expecting the opposite. Does anyone know which has the faster load cycle?

From what I saw, this looks to be a hit!

As for Expedition Everest, I remain optimistic that Disney will deliver here. Isn't there a 100 ft. drop inside the mountain on this one?

We rode it the day before the grand opening, so the ride we got should have been pretty close to the current edition. I doubt we'll visit USF during our Oct & Dec trips, but maybe next May.

I have mentioned this before, but it is a shame that the Imagineers could not build the MS ride as it was planned in their original concept, with the ride ending up at a space station. There was quite a bit more to it originally.:(

Now you've peaked my curiousity. What's the story on the Mummy?

What's the story on the Mummy?

IMHO, it is Universal' answer to RnR. It has some pretty good effects with fire & some cute mummies popping up, but the coaster ride itself is pretty hum-drum.

It is one of those "Is that all there is to it?" rides. Definitely does NOT live up to the hype.

It's fun, but not worth a long wait. Universal Express or single rider line only.

Have they fixed the photo portion of the ride ? When we rode it the picture was taken at the moment you were turning your head to the left to see a ride element. All the photos showed was the right side of your face.

The ride has a pretty good launch, but RnR is stronger, more G's. The flaming ceiling is a great effect. The reverse portion of the ride is too slow, uneventfull and too short. The sound system was terrible, almost like turning the volume up too high on cheap speakers. I think they wanted the loud, booming bass effect, but didn't spend the money for better speakers. There is a good, fast spiral portion of the ride thru a cool mist or co2 fog. The 2nd half of the que has a couple Indy type elements.

Overall it's an okay ride that could have been great. I don't think the Kong building was big enough to repurpose for this ride. The first half of the que is terrible & the transition into the 2nd half is awkward - hard to explain. Next time we're there, if the line is basically "walk right on", then we'll ride it again. Otherwise, we'll pass.

Oh, one more thing: no back packs, belt bags, purses, cameras, etc, nothing can be carried on. There are lockers availible, complicated to use from what I've read & observed, that will charge after a certain amount of free time.

I don't think Disney can ever do "just a ride"! It's always a ride, with a story and special effects!

Agreed. One of the 1st things I thought of when I got off was if the ride was constrained by the space available. If they had built a new building, would the ride have been the same??

Inquiring minds want to know, but probably never will.

The new Revenge of the Mummy ride at Universal theme park passes Disney by. Did all the Disney Imagineers go over to Universal?:confused3 I am very disappointed in the lack of imagination that went into Test Track and Mission Space. Removing World of Motion and Horizons was a horrible move. To make matters worse, Eisner is cloning Dumbo rides at the other parks.

The Mt. Everest ride should be a TRUE Disney ride to come along in a long, long time. These are the types of rides Disney needs to build - half animatronic/Dark ride and half roller coaster. I can't wait to ride this one. It will be a big hit. :hyper:

I would not be riding Everest before its built ..so to speak. Remember the plans of what DinoRama was supposed to be before it got the Eisner treatment.

This all makes me very sad. While I like coasters and really enjoyed Mission Space it seems that is all they are adding to the parks anymore. Wasn't the original mission for Walt to create something the FAMILY could do together. That is the reason my family goes to Disney. Half of us do not ride roller coasters or rides that go around so Disney was perfect. But all the new rides are thrill rides in nature and simply (since we have been there so often already) give us no reason to want to return any time soon.
There isn't anything new for us to see. The old rides are in such disrepair that seeing them again only ruins the magic.
