Is DVC really a value for a family of 5 ??

We are a family of 5 . Last year we made do with a 1BR since DS had just turned 3. This time we are doing a 2BR. We have enough points to do a full week in a standard view at BWV every other year (160 points). Last spring I figured every other year wasn't enough :D so we bought 100 points at VWL, enough for a 5 night stay without the weekend. I am trying to talk DH into 75 points at BCV so we can add the weekend, but so far no soap.
Plus we travel in summer as I am a teacher with no other large breaks except for Christmas week and Easter week-when points are even higher!
As it is, if we do a week in the VWL years we'll pay cash for 2 nights--DH is really a sucker for the Poly.
The 3rd child really throws things into a tizzy doesn't it? Oh well. If it gets me to WDW every year I"ll be a happy camper.

I just stayed in a 2br for the first time at BWV and after 3 stays in a 1br, all I can say is I will never go back. while I'm a DD of 3 ages 6,3,18 months, it was so nice being able to relax on the couch while the kids played in the other room. it was so great I bought another 100 points to go with my original 210. Me and dm have decided we will go twice in every 3 year period. The other thing that is important is as the kids get bigger they will want to bring friends and with the extra room this will not be a problem.:)

I agree with Captain Tom. We've had 2 stays in a 1 bdrm with only four of us - myself, DH, DS and his friend. The boys are college age and they were fine with the pullout - just happy to be on vacation!

This year we did a 2 bedroom, partly because later in the week we had more family members joining us (in more rooms) and we though we'd want the living area free for get togethers.

Well, we'll probably never go back to a 1 bedroom. The boys had never complained in the past, but they raved about having their own beds. We got to stretch out and relax in our living room instead of working around sleeping boys and they were able to come in late at night with less likelihood of disturbing our sleep. At BWV they had a separate entrance and at OKW the front door is so far from the Master bedroom because of the extra room that we never heard them. I agree it's probably worth staying one day less, or Dare I say it? Staying at OKW at lower points to have the extra room. (O.K., Rich, that's your cue to say "I told you so")

I told you so!!!!

But wait, there is an even better solution. Get another 100 points and get the Grand Villa at OKW. Invite the friend's parents, or you sister, or a client and their one or two kids. Each adult couple gets their own bedroom, the common kids share the third. There is even a pull out couch for the stray teenager.

Talk about room and comfort, there is another large sitting area, also a large dining area, so the pullout , if used, is no big deal.

Wait, I better stop, they are difficult enough to get as it is.

Nevermind

Actually we mulled that one over quite a bit (while sitting on an OKW balcony overlooking the canal). Particularly because we ended up with 8 adults and one small child by the time the extended family joined us for 5 days. I had reserved a 2 bdrm and 2 studios at BWV for 5 days as the GVs over at BWV were slated to be in remodeling for our trip dates. We were thinking the GV over at OKW would have been better.

Unfortunately when we got home, I found that one of my larger clients had gone through some major cutbacks and had cut my upcoming year contract to little more than a third of what it had been in the past. While not my only, or even my largest client, they were the largest that had me on a retainer (i.e. monthly money I could depend on). Without the surety of those funds, we're not likely to expend any more into DVC just now - too much risk. Obviously, the likelihood of getting a GV at the 7 month is practically nill.

How about if I save up points for a couple of years, transfer them to you, and you make us a reservation at 11 months? :D
