My DS is 6 and he has asked for those solid wood building blocks for Christmas. All the ages I have seen for these blocks is up to age 5. I was surprised by his request because I thought he was a little beyond building blocks. Just thought I would ask to see what others thought, should I go ahead and buy them for him or not?

Buy them! My DD almost 5, just dragged these out while at Pre-K along with another almost 5yo girl. DD still likes her duplo also and, my brothers (now adults) still like to buy and make the extravagant Lego models so, if your DS wants them now, so be it! jmo

You're Never Too Old, right??? ;)

If it's something he wants, I'd say go for it!! :)

If he were 17, it'd be a different story. . ;) :teeth:

Personally, I think building blocks help kids to use and expand their imaginations and we all know imagination is a "magical" thing! I say go for it! :D

My DS, age 7, gets out ALL the building
materials: Legos,blocks,Lincoln Logs,Marble Maze,
Duplos, trains and car track. He builds whole
communities in the living room. They are quite
elaborate. I forgot the carboard brix.
It's fun as long as we're not expecting guests.

Yes, buy them. You might also think about other similar imagination "toys". I know our Children's Museum has a ton of them, and so does a store for teachers here.
Legos, blocks, Kinex, all that kind of stuff. You never grow too old for them.

LOL! My 27 YO DS still likes to fiddle around with the Legos! When he was younger, he built with all kinds of materials too. Now he is in Architectural school!

Buy them for him. I dont think there is any wrong, my son is now 20 but he always plays with legos and building blocks, they can be a creative part of his life, will allow him to use his imagination and other skills. :D

He's not too old. In addition to being fun to play with, blocks foster imagination and provide practical mathematic and scientific theory without the child even knowing it.

I'd get them, my 8yo DD loves to build things and uses everything. I keep thinking we'll have an Architect in the family someday :)

There are some new things that have motors etc, I may look at those for her.
