Is Disney+ trying to compete with Amazon Prime?

I read that now that Disney+ has increased it's prices they are trying to compete with Amazon Prime by having their own Prime like tier like Amazon Prime has with a membership and I would like to know if you heard anything about it? I think since Disney+ was launched this was one of the dreams they had in mind and I hope that if Disney+ decides to have a membership tier I hope they don't charge big bucks for the memberships and give the memberships a cheaper price if they create them. Because Disney+ is a top streaming service of Disney movies and other stuff this idea might work
Do you agree?

This is a rumor going around that they are considering it. The membership would help drive in-park spending with perks. I think it would include Disney+ and also some discounts or other benefits. Dinsey Visa cardholders have exclusive meet & greets and such, so I think it will be something like that. It's not necessarily a terrible idea depending on what's included. I am using the D+ hotel discount in a couple of weeks, so if that were a more permanent thing, that could be good.

As mentioned above, Disney always follows the money that other companies are making.

Will the proposed subscription service offer anything new? Free shipping home for WDW purchases home for example. Will we be paying a fee for the privilege of getting the discounts we already receive via AP, DVC, Disney VISA etc.

Of course it will! For the shareholders…

I would honestly be more interested in a membership that condenses memberships than a fancy D+ one. They already have APs, DVC, D23...why does D+ need to be anything more than a streaming service?

Maybe they add Disney+ subscribers to the list of those that can get previews to new attractions?
What is D+ subscribers get to select Genie+ and LL attractions an hour before everyone else?
Could always just "give" D+ subscribers a free LL each day?
Open early window for dining reservations to D+ subscribers?
Make evening park hours just for D+ subscribers?
Open certain after hours parties nights (Halloween and Christmas), to only D+ subscribers?

But yeah the issue is, what about all the other "special" people that are already paying a premium for Disney. D23 Members, DVC Members, Disney Visa holders, Annual Pass Holders? Well AP holders are getting a discount so they don't really matter, and that program might not be long term anyway. Visa Card isn't really costing anyone anything - even if you have the premium one, your getting a higher percentage back on purchases anyway (not sure it's much of a revenue generator for Disney). DVC's benefits are what they are... And D23 could be rolled into Disney+ and a part of the top tier package easy enough

Clearly the streaming service on it's own is not doing as well as hoped (the whole industry is trying to figure out what to do), they are looking at ways to improve it's numbers... as streaming makes them a Tech Stock, rather than just an Entertainment Stock.

Just wait until TWDC declares that the ability purchase / renew an Annual Pass or Magic Keys, purchase tickets to D23, buy tickets to after-hours parties in the parks, have access to Disney Plus, book advanced dining reservations at on-site table service restaurants, enjoy in-park benefits like Character Meet and Greets or get a seat at Fantasmic! (this is meant as non-exhaustive list) is limited and restricted to those persons who are members of Mickey Prime.

Access to all of these highly priced activities are available to you for the low cost of $149.00 / year. That creates a whole new revenue stream, which is desperately needed for TWDC because all of the unfavorables. :)

I got another great idea, if you are a member of Mickey Prime you aren't charged a resort fee when staying on-site. For non-members, get ready to pay a $50 daily resort fee.

Does anyone remember the Magic Kingdom Club? My memory is the annual dues were around $100. You got a tote bag when you joined. Discounts on rooms and other stuff
Discontinued when Disney introduced Disney VISA

You meant to say a discounted resort fee of $25 per day.

We’ve heard comments about ‘unfavorable mix’ and ‘cheap daycare for teenagers’. Could one goal be fine tuning the selection of park guests?

I had Magic Kingdom Club, but it cost me $0. I had it through the company I was working for.

I remember when Mr Iger discussed the Disney Corporate success with the opening of the Grand California Resort many years ago .
I think he was asked to explain the occupancy success with the higher nightly fees that Disney was able to command.
He seemed to be very aware and confident always.

Good luck to them if they choose a route like that.

Is this the same membership club dated 2001-2003 for me?

Was it different for DL / WDW members?

It was originally the Magic Kingdom Club. It changed to just the Disney Club. It was discontinued when the Disney VISA was introduced.
It was free to some groups of people. Maybe only paid members got the tote bag.

They need to be careful though. That also cannibalizes some other pre-existing revenue streams.

Bob Chapek doesn’t get out of bed for $149 a year. Maybe $149 per month and now you’re talking.
