Is Disney starting to slack compared to other cruises?

I respectfully disagree. There's a lot of us childless cruisers on Disney. They do a lot to make us feel happy and welcome.
DW and I have taken 10 cruises so far.. All w/ Diz and never with kids or grandkids. We keep the boats just for us. WDW we do with the rest of the family. We absolutely love the Disney ships. We've never taken another line so I cannot really compare, but I will say that I can see the difference when we pull up next to the other lines' ships in Nassau. RCL looks ok and we may try that someday. Don't ever see us getting on Carnival. As mentioned by others in this string, we do not cruise for activities.

I did see this article recently:
http://www.escapehere.com/inspiration/the-15-bestworst-cruise-lines-in-the-world/

Other than AmaWaterways which is a River Cruise Line, DCL rated the best (according to them) of the OceanLiners. Personally I tend to agree with them.

I will add for the record that I have never been bored on a Disney ship and I guess for me that's the true test of if there are enough activities. I am not a "lie in the sun and sleep" type of person either do I kinda need things to do. Usually I don't have enough time to do everything I want.

I have to say my oldest didn't enjoy our first cruise as he had just turned 18. Couldn't go in the teen club (bad planning on my part sadly I didn't realize) and couldn't really enjoy adult stuff (even though 18 is adult in Manitoba) so he couldn't drink. He just went to movies. I think if we had been on another ship with the rope stuff and walls and waterslides he would have really loved that. He declined going on a second cruise with us as he didn't have fun.
That's a tough age. I know I'll make somebody on this board by mad by stereotyping genders. I don't care I'm not of that generation. I think 18 year old boys/men for the most part aren't going to happy laying out at the pool and going to the spa. They like the more active stuff. I think most people of that age are interested in meeting people the same age.... opposite sex or not. I remember going to Hawaii with my parents when I was 18 and being bored to death. You want to do stuff with people your own age, but you don't have the money unless your parents are paying. It's too bad cruiselines don't offer more for this age bracket.

Cool. I see that Carnival and RCCL are cited among the best as well.

Yes, but I agree with what they say about it too. Carnival barely made it by .1 stars however mostly they are a good cruise line if you like parties, karaoke, etc.

Carnival is the best for young adults that are into the night club and/or party scene. they are the line to beat for those crowds. Not my thing - but that's okay.

Or Trivia, waterslides, Dive in movies, good MDR food, lots of great "made for you" food choices on the lido deck, comfortable beds, spa amenities or Hasbro experiences or Dr Seuss experiences. I love Carnival and I'm not into the night club or party scene. And neither are my 63 and 68 year old parents who also love Carnival.

The last time I was on Carnival it was mostly all families. There were as many grandparents as there were young couples. I'm sure there are ships that are party boats. If you cruise on one of the newer ships during school breaks. The demographics is very similar to what you see on a DCL ship. I've been checking out the roll call for the Vista this Fall and there are a lot families cruising on that ship.

Yes, that is what my travel agent told me -- it depends on their itinerary as to how many "young partiers" there are -- usually mostly in the Caribbean or short 4-night cruises. Our first Carnival cruise was on the Glory out of NYC for four nights with one stop in St. John. We saw mostly families and a lot of family reunions and it was over Labor Day weekend. The only "problem" we experienced was the loud DJ in the atrium which blotted out any chance to speak to guest services or shore excursions. We never experienced any public drunkenness in the areas we visited or problem passengers. This September we are doing a 7-night Canada/NE and it's not over the holiday so I am thinking we will see even more families with young children. We shall see. I'm looking forward to it.

It's true though. I think if it had been my daughter (as an 18 yr old) she would have been content to lay out in the adults only deck with me. I just felt bad for him that he didn't really have anything to do. He does love movies so he had his fill of the theater. lol I think that's like all he did. Except when we were in port, cause we got off the ship and walked around and took pics and shopped. But he says he didn't enjoy it. Hey, makes it cheaper for me for this Octobers cruise since he isn't going. lol Gotta look at the bright side. And he'll stay home and watch the dog and cats!

ETA: He did check the navigator and attend the 1820 club events. But they were really few and far in between. Like one a day for 30 minutes.

It's always a plus not to pay for the doggy resort.

DH and I are not into night clubs/party scene. We're 36 and 37 yo, Up at 5:00 AM and in bed at 10:00 PM type of people. Spent most of our time in the quiet pool section, did an excursion to Blue Lagoon, went to brunch, played trivia, played bingo, relaxed on our balcony, seen comedy shows and musical revues.

We look at the program and stick to what we like... Avoid the rest. :)

Pretty broad brush you are painting with. ;) We sailed the Vista last summer on a 10 night Eastern Med from Barcelona to Athens. It was a ship full of American and European families with most kids in Tween/Teen range. No crazy young adult party scene. Most folks in the evenings were either at the shows or enjoying the poolside movies themed by the current country we were in and munching on the complimentary popcorn. Since we had only one sea day during a 10 night port intensive cruise through 5 countries, partying wasn't on the agenda.

haha Well luckily my mom lives down the street so she's turned into the doggy resort thankfully! I've looked at kennel costs and WOAH. When my son moves out (eventually...maybe? lol) I'll just have to hope my mom will still do it for me.

Well, sad to say, my daughter finally reached the age where she is fine with us taking trips and her staying home. So she now babysits our dog and it's not only better for our pocketbook, but better for the dog (who suffers separation anxiety).

It's just shocking to me that a child would be ok with that. I LIVE to travel! If my parents would take me on trips still I'd gladly go! lol But I am sure your dog is very happy!

Don't be shocked -- everyone has their limit with travel ability. She just turned 30 and has done 16 cruises and traveled to all 50 states and Canada with us since she was 10 months old, so she has done more than I ever accomplished at her age. She still loves traveling with us, but is limited on her time off from her job and when she takes off -- she doesn't get paid and now has a mortgage. So her near future desire is to arrange trips with her friends and do some car trips -- which I think is great she's learned from her OCD planning mother and can now venture out on her own LOL. My bucket list goal though is to do Japan with her as that has been her dream.
