Is Discovery Island still open

No, not the attraction in the Animal Kingdom, but the bird sanctuary. I see the island on my map, but there's nothing anywhere about it still being open to visit or if there are even any birds there anymore.

Sadly, no. No public visits there anymore, but I've heard on these boards that Disney still uses it for storage or something.

I was afraid of that. Dh and I really love zoos and we enjoyed Discovery Island so much when we visited in '91 (pre-kids). I think it was just about our favorite "attraction."
