Is Darth Vader Disney's darkest villian?

I'd put Thanos up there. I mean, in addition to all the civilizations he massacred, he kidnapped at least 2 and tortured them - poor Nebula was more parts than flesh, and he threw Gamora, the one who he claimed to love the most, off a cliff to her death just to fulfill his goals.

True, he did a TON of damage, though his motivations were understandable. Population is outstripping resources - it's a universal problem. That said, he should have realized that with the power of the gauntlet he could have doubled the resources in the universe rather than halving the population. In the comics, he did it just because he loves death and wanted to prove it to her - a much more sinister motivation.

He tortured his daughter, mutilated his son, and chocked his wife as well.
In fairness, according to viewers he didn’t know she was his daughter until later. At that point she was just a leader of the rebellion.

He certainly has his evil moments, but he was conflicted and eventually redeems himself.

Technical Princess Emma kills Cruella in OUAT so I wonder if she could technically be a villian and she was dark for one season as well. Snow White kills the Evil Queen's mom in the show as well.

There's a great fanfiction that DV does a DNA test and saves Leia and Alderon.

Darth wears all black. He doesn't even go for gray tones. It's hard to get darker than that.
Yeah but doesn't that just put it all out front, you've been warned who I am. Aren't the truly evil/dangerous ones the wolves in sheep's clothing? Hiding behind their presenting self.

Frollo's description ... "Claude Frollo is a fictional Christian clergyman and the primary antagonist of Victor Hugo's 1831 novel The Hunchback of Notre-Dame. He is also an alchemist, Renaissance humanist, and intellectual." He wears his religious cloak adorned with colors. Hides behind his position in society. :scratchin

Maleficent gave Stephan and Leah a chance to take action. They know exactly where their daughter is and that she is in (relatively) safe hands.

Rapunzel's parents didn't have that luxury.

While true, I look at the purpose behind the actions. Gothel took Rapunzel to stay alive and maintain her youth. She was a well kept prisoner until she became enlightened about her situation. Maleficent sentenced Aurora to death because she felt excluded/slighted.

Ursula. Twisted ironclad contracts that always work in her favor trapping souls in her garden for eternal damnation. Baits a minor child Ariel to get revenge on Triton and ultimately his power to control all seas. “Nothing personal, I have bigger fish to fry.”

What makes it worse off is that in the live version, you find out that Ursula is Triton’s sister and Ariel’s aunt. Eek. Talk about a toxic family. Controlling Dad, Lunatic Aunt, & Ariel wanting to escape the seas to become human. Perhaps due to the fact her mother was killed by a human and by becoming human she won’t have that anxiety anymore and freeing her from toxic family.

I’d give Claude Frollo a nod on that one, but there are plenty of cruel and evil options to go from.
Yep. He was evil incarnate and scary because he acted from the motivations of a real (twisted) person. Greedy for power, no magic, abusive, bullying, sexual predator, etc. He was scary to me because there are too many just like him in positions of power, just lording it over the little people and ruining their lives because he can.

But, again, Disney didn't create him. Hugo did. Disney merely animated him.

The question was "who is darkest" not who is most evil. 🤷‍♀️

:darth:
How do we define darkest?

For some people Gaston is the scariest villain as he is the most realistic. If you go by who could be real, then all the villains with magical powers end up lower on the list than those without.

Disagree as Disney made a lot of changes to Frollo's character. Basically an original character with some similarities in plotline, but less in character.

If you watch the stage show Disney has created of Hunchback, they went back to the book and he is no longer a true villain. They really made him less black and white villain (and because of that the show is quite boring 😉)

Problem comes to narrowing the list of Disney villains at that point if you just go off any Disney created. A decent number of Disney Villains were part of previous works/adaptations/acquisitions.

Cruella never killed the puppies .... I vote actually killing with one's own hand is the most evil, not really including "war" type scenarios (Star Wars).

Well, she didn't get away with it in the movie, but somehow I doubt that was her first rodeo.
